a gunman entered this st louis high school before killing at least two people. seven security guards were in the school at the time, authorities say one guard saw the gunman trying to enter a locked door before the shooting. they say the guard notified school officials who then called police. the police chief declined to say how the shooter eventually got inside, saying revealing that information could jeopardize safety can understand. that we want to try and make schools a hard target. and so to give. the answer to the exam is really kind of offering a opportunity for somebody else. officers responded to the shooting just after nine am finding students hiding under desks jumping out of windows and live streaming police. the alleged gunman, identified as 19 year old orlando harris, a former student at the school. authorities say he was armed with a long gun when he opened fire, possibly in a classroom. one student says she escaped. after the shooter's gun apparently jammed, my friend

have all blood on her hands, and it was like she's seen the shooter and the shooter came to her and said you ready to die? investigators say only 14 minutes elapsed between the 1st 911 call and the gunman being shot dead. some of the responding officers happened to be nearby, attending a colleague's funeral. the call went out. they drove there. they put the car in park. they drill weapon they went into the building. authorities identified the two deceased victims as a 16 year old female students and health. teacher jean kuska, her daughter, saying kubica was killed when the gunmen burst into her class and she got between him and her students. she put herself between them and harm between them and danger. she was love. she was the embodiment. of love. a motive for the shooting is under investigation. suspicions that there may be some mental illness that he was experiencing. uh we're working on developing that information right now. seven

other people were wounded. authorities say the gunman was armed with nearly a dozen high capacity magazines. a russian court is hearing an appeal this morning from jail. w. n b a star britney griner. she is hoping her nine year prison sentence for drug possession will be overturned or reduced. griner was arrested in moscow back in february after police said they found cannabis oil in her luggage. the state department says discussions with russia have been ongoing in recent days , and the white house is responding to 30 democrats from the progressive caucus who want president biden to push for peace talks to end the war in ukraine, spokesman john kirby said vladimir putin's actions make it clear he is not willing to negotiate. meanwhile ukraine says russia is preparing to fight to keep control of the occupied city of her son as ukrainian troops advance in their counter offensive grocery stores are empty as thousands of civilians evacuate politics and debate night in florida, the governor and potential 2024 presidential candidate ron de santis. taking on democrat

hospitals and at least 43 states are seeing an early surge of rsv cases. symptoms include heavy breathing and a strong cough that can last for two weeks. doctors in texas say a difficult winter cold season is already underway. right now, in our system, we have more than 40 kids hospitalized with rsv. and more than 10 kids in our icu, receiving critical care treatment for their rsv infection. hospitals in rhode island, delaware and washington , dc, say nearly all of their pediatric beds are occupied. doctors are urging parents to make sure kids have their flu and covid shots. president biden will get his updated covid booster shot today. the white house says the event should be a reminder to americans that the booster is safe, available and free. broken elevator has trapped tourists underground in arizona since sunday they were visiting the grand canyon caverns, 200 ft underground. a larger group was originally trapped, but some were able to climb to the stairs to the surface. the underground site

justice department filing a response last night trying to reverse an appeals court's temporary stay, which halted president biden's plan to slash student loan debt. the court sided with six republican led states who argue the president is overstepping his authority. biden's plan would cancel up to $10,000 in federal loans for most borrowers and up to 20,000 for pell grant recipients. as of last friday, 22 million americans had already applied for forgiveness, including cleopatra. melton she has nearly $50,000 in student loan debt. that lawsuit was out there. i didn't want to get to celebratory about it. you know what i mean? so i'm extremely worried that it's not going to go through the temporary state now has her rethinking her finances like whether she can afford to buy a home, she says. biden's campaign promise to cancel student debt was part of why she voted for him, calling this another example of people of color who make up a
