with advertisers -- advertisers. employees are not so sure. many have already left the san francisco-based company. >> san francisco is changing. >> there's been a lot of drama surrounding elon musk's twitter takeover. >> it will be interesting because it will be in the history books. >> on wednesday he carried a kitchen sink to twitter headquarters. all the buzz about him buying twitter has a lot of people asking on twitter who's leaving. new numbers show nationwide, 580 people have left the company in the past quarter. >> what we are seeing is a massive surge of department -- departures from twitter. >> twitter plus 280 employees in the past three months. greg larkin and his colleagues crunched the data they gather from all linkedin accounts online. >> everyone who has a linkedin profile who works at twitter and asked, how many people have left each quarter since the beginning of 2022? >> and number skyrocketed since the beginning of the year, but

win the war. >> in san francisco, abc7news. >> tomorrows expected close of musk's $44 billion twitter deal is prompting asked -- action on the twitter -- on the exchange. twitter shares will be suspended from trading tomorrow. shares of twitter stock closed up about .5%. >> two weeks after a school shooting scare hit multiple bay area schools, another hoax today. this one was in santa cruz. our anchor is live in the newsroom with details. >> at around 9:30 police responded to a call that there was an active shooter in a classroom at a santa cruz high school. the police said that there were multiple shots and multiple victims. that's when the school went into lockdown and other schools in the area sheltered out of an abundance of caution in the santa cruz police chief says hundreds of officers from different agencies in the county showed up. they also had air support and

drones in the air within five to 10 minutes. the chief says after canvassing they can for -- campus they did not find a sign of active shooter. investigators now say this was a hoax. one person was detained but the person was not linked to any crime, students were eventually reunited with parents, santa cruz city school superintendent says while today was chaotic, it served as a practice for a real active shooter situation. >> no evidence of an active shooter on campus, our students are safe, our staff is safe, we are incredibly grateful to the santa cruz police department, the santa cruz sheriff department and all of the law enforcement agencies in the county who have responded, and implemented the safety protocols that we practice regularly and collaborate on regularly. >> if you remember earlier this month, multiple bay area schools had reports of an active shooter threat, that was determined to

be a swatting situation, that's when someone calls and a fake threat to cause mass chaos. the superintendent says there is school tomorrow and again, this is now being called a hoax. live in the newsroom, abc7news. >> as you can see behind me, things are moving ahead after a tow truck slammed into a tollbooth -- tollbooth, a caltrans tow truck -- increase rate able to reopen the tollbooth and a total of nine was impacted and it was open shortly after the incident. quite san francisco's fastest-growing neighborhood of finally get the school they have long been fighting for. >> mission bay will have an elementary school ready for enrollment by 2025. abc7news senior education reporter has been following the road to near completion and tells us why this took so long. >> me to your old joe. he will probably never remember that he was part of the

shelters are full, so we are playing tetris at this point. quirks part of the reason is the pandemic, it cap millions of pets from being spayed and neutered. a recent study out of the university of florida found more than two point 5 million fewer surgeries were performed in 2021 and 2022. >> it was very difficult to gets pay and neutered done during the pandemic, a lot of hospitals didn't have capacity. >> now capacity is running out here, the number of small animals like guinea pigs and rabbits exploding, equipped to handle 24, they are finding ways to hold 80. >> instead of seeing people coming in with one guinea pig or one rabbit, we are seeing them come in with 10, 12. >> how many dogs do hold at one time? >> ideally, about 60, but we have been overcapacity for that

be some of the same. little mid-40's, take you to places like san mateo, san francisco about 47 to 48. tomorrow, high clouds and a little bit of an onshore breeze, not quite as mild as today. 62 in san francisco, oakland, 65, san jose, 68. north bay and east bay that could crack at 70. we will have that warm weekend and dry air will spill into halloween. come back and we are going to look at a sunset at about 6:11. temperatures 55 to 62. dropping into the 50's. a lot of the kids are out happily haunting and they definitely want to have an extra jacket. here's a look at future radar for monday. it's bringing the storm down to us, steady rain tuesday, and then showers, possibly wintry showers, lightning, thunder, a small chance of hail out of this particular system. as we take a look a rainfall amounts, nothing as we head through, but when we wake up

tuesday morning there's potential for our first commune in a long time, and then you can see the showers slowly add up as we had from tuesday into wednesday. temperatures will be significantly cooler then to 50's and 60's. that starts tuesday and continues through thursday. until then, 60's and 70's tomorrow, a little bit warmer, but also warming clouds in the morning low clouds will be around for saturday and sunday. a little bit more sunshine but is still a great weekend for outdoor activities and that spills into halloween monday. >> get two days of rain? works we get one steady push of rain with a cold front comes through, you get in the colder air mass behind it and that's when you get the instability for those scattered showers and possibility of rain those in hail and the snow looks like it's about 5000 feet. >> is longest halloween is ok, that's what we are looking at. no powerball winner last night strong, but someone in the bay area has become a millionaire.

board, but now that's what republicans are setting their sights on these races. the fiery debates are happening and places that used to be considered kind of sleepy. school board races. some residents have been surprised to learn that some of those culture boards -- culture wars are playing out here, in california. >> she says there's a candidate on her ballot to is against teaching critical race theory or crt. next anti-critical race theory's -- theory in her statement, it's like, well. >> she'ss 16

graduates and a local business owner. we met up with her in the final weeks of her campaign when she was walking her district and doorknocking. >> i have walked my entire district at least months and i'm on my second go around. the number one thing that people are concerned about is the financial well-being of the district and that's we need to keep our focus. >> sheet -- she says she focuses on the abcs, back to basics and children first. she actively campaign to recall governor newsom, she has organized protests against the covid mandates. >> it's discriminatory. >> and she has fought back against showing proof of vaccination. >> i have fought against the covid vaccine. >> are you vaccinated? >> no. i am not.

careers. >> it's hard to predict how candidates like jensen will do in the election. >> certainly in some areas these are strong candidates who are doing really well, and they have otheim, that is -- it is get you get your friends to doorknob, put up signs and all sorts of things, you have a chance there. do you think messaging like this will resident -- will resonate? >> terms of pushing people to accept something, i don't think that that is a good thing. i think the community doesn't want that either. >> with the pandemic folks felt good school boards were making decisions and parents were not a part of it. it woke parents of 20, school boards are important. >> i do want to say that we know that the viewpoints expressed by

jensen will be upsetting but we think that voters deserve to know where these candidates for public office stand. the number one thing that voters need to do this year is read your ballot, pay attention to who is on a especial in smaller local races. >> i saw a bunch of signs on the side of the road for school board and i thought, i have some work here to do, research to figure out who these people are. it's fascinating to see the difference in perspective between the north bay and the south bay and other areas. it is dramatically different. >> it is true, i'd know we didn't get to shower entire piece but what we are seeing in the south bay, the candidates are being upfront and they are putting in their material that they believe these are winning
