moves. lena holland joins us. good morning. lena: with news of elon musk taking over, the san francisco-based company, the new york stock exchange says shares have been suspended for trading meaning it is headed for delisting and no longer considered to be a public company. elon musk tweeting, the bird is freed after changing his bio earlier this week. news of musk taking reigns of the company comes hours before deadline set by a delaware judge to finalize a deal. it was originally valued at $44 billion. musk, who is already ceo of spacex and tesla, saying to let it sink in. he has already taken control of twitter according to his lawyers

animal shelters are packed. many delayed medical care for themselves during the pandemic and the pets also missed appointments for things like neutering and spaying. laureate rodriguez is live in the newsroom with more on this for us. -- gloria rodriguez is in the newsroom live with more on this for us. gloria: a recent study out of florida found more than 2.5 million fewer surgeries performed in 2021 and 2022. check out the abandoned animals at the animal care and control. they are overcapacity. they usually have 60 dogs at one time but have had 90 for several months and are equipped to handle 24 small animals, like guinea pigs and rabbits. the numbers exploding. the operations manager said rescue groups and shelters are full across the country. >> this is nancy, a lovely lady

-- similar shooting but remained on the force. he is currently serving six years in for that shooting. the county has paid $12 million to settle lawsuits by families of both victims. reggie: counselors will be on hand to talk with students and staff after a false call about an active shooter on campus. the call came in around 9:30 yesterday morning. the caller claimed a shooter was inside the classroom with multiple victims. the school went into lockdown and other schools shelter-in-place. within minutes, hundreds of officers from rent agencies showed up in the air and on the ground. >> there has been a national trend that we were notified a couple weeks ago for people to call in false active shooter events, and i had shared that with my staff, because it has happened in other states, and it looks like that is what has happened today. reggie: earlier this month,

multiple bay area schools had reports of an active shooter which was considered to be a swatting situation, when someone calls in a threat to cause mass chaos. the economy grew more than expected but still facing challenges. mortgage rates have climbed above 7% for the first time in 20 years. the federal reserve is set to raise key interest rates week to slow inflation. despite the challenges, treasury secretary janet yellen sees no signs of an impending recession. >> we have on a plane at a 50 year low. there are 2 -- we have unemployment at 850 year low. reggie: economist debating the likelihood of a recession next year. amazon reporting a weaker than expected holiday season, pointing to higher inflation. jobina: americans may need to be

concerned about the economy, but that does not mean they will cut back on holiday spending. a new survey shows people plan to spend an average of $932 on gifts this year, the highest amount since the pandemic started and considerably higher than the estimate at this time last year, which was $837. it is important to note that the increased amount is not necessarily about generosity. some respondents say they expect to spend more because of inflation. reggie: the warriors are the defending champs and the most valuable franchise. the value is put at $7 billion, up 25% from last year. not a bad investment for the owners, who bought the team for $450 million in 2010. since then, the warriors have won four championships and built their center.
