saturday, sunday, and even monday. santa clara a chilly 39 and here is a look at the south bay where number -- numbers range from the upper 30's. temperatures coming up in the mid 60's to low 70's. it is pretty mild for this time of year and will take that trend to the second half of the weekend. but things change throughout the middle of the week when november arrives and you could be digging around for your umbrella. >> the husband of house speaker nancy pelosi is recovering after a violent attack at their san francisco home. paul pelosi underwent surgery to repair a fractured skull. the suspect is 42-year-old david depape.

intending to kill her. >> he confronted mr. pelosi after breaking through a side door, shouting for the speaker's whereabouts before the attack. back in san francisco, neighbors living near the pelosi home say the residence has been targeted repeatedly. protesters often bringing their issues to the family front door. the brutal attack has people worried about what could come next. >> fearing that come election day this could be a dangerous place to be should the right decide to camp out here. >> his son was present as police and capitol hill investigators searched through the home. capturing her arrival at zuckerberg san francisco general hospital. our cameras caught dark suvs followed by a patrol car leaving

the hospital. the police chief spoke with reporters, emotional in his delivery. >> the families do not sign up for this and it is wrong. and everybody should be disgusted about what happened. >> we are told their daughters are in town and the speaker's office releasing a statement on behalf of the family thanking everyone for their outpouring of support and prayers felt across the country. >> and out to more on the suspect who used to berkeley. we talked with former neighbors who say that they are not surprised to learn about what happened. >> residents say the people in this house continue to cause problems.

these races. across the country, many of the most fiery political debates have been happening in a place that used to be considered pretty sleepy, local school board races. as bay area voters had to the pools, some areurt on culture wars are even playing out here, in some of the most liberal parts of california. >> nobody like this has ever run for school board before and i have lived in puddle also -- palo alto for decades. she says there is a candidate on her bout against teaching vertical race theory. >> that candidate is ingrid campos running in the palo alto unified school district, one of 16 candidates backed by the silicon valley association of republican women. jan is the group's president who started in an effort last year to recruit candidates to run for school boards this november.

science professor at cal state fullerton. >> how will we talk about race in the classroom? how will we talk about lgbtq people? should books be banned? we are seeing these as hot topics playing out across school board races. let's hill points out that the school board positions are nonpartisan, meaning no party affiliation is listed on the ballot. she says in california were democrats make up the majority of registered voters, the effort to mobilize candidates to run for school boards has been led predominately by republicans. the california gop started a program called "parent revolt" to recruit and train school board candidates. >> in california there is a lot of frustration for republicans because estate offices are held by democrats. where can you make a difference at the local level? school boards are the local races where the battle between republicans and democrats is still really playing out. >> that has always been the
