in redwood city. a much-needed reprieve from all of this dry weather we have had for months. >> it almost looks like hail. the rain finally came down once again. this is something we have not seen in a while. windshield wipers. some of us had to search for that button. where is it again? a lot of rain and a lot of drivers slowing down. let's check in with our meteorologist. >> a good soaker. a third of an inch here in san francisco. i was not ready for it. everybody slowed down. everybody took the upper cautions. i saw a lot of people with umbrellas.

we will still stay at one on the storm impact scale. isolated showers tomorrow. some of us might not pick up any rain. you can see the sunshine we talked about. it is rather breezy out there right now. these winds are moving across the region. watch out if you are driving in the next couple of hours. look at how quiet live doppler 7 is. this moisture is moving away from us. some scattered showers coming down. colder air will be moving in. we have a chance of showers that could produce lightning over the ocean and some small hail.

we saw her leaving her house this morning. the man accused of the attack had his first court appearance, where he pleaded not guilty. >> he pled not guilty to all six felony charges against him. while he did not speak in court today, his attorney did and we learned a lot from him. he has been assigned a veteran public defender. he said he had not seen any of the police reports filed in this case yet. he has just met the defendant late last night. he repeatedly called out there has been a lot of speculation and rumors in this case. the accused is a very tall man. we learned that he dislocated his shoulder during the arrest. his attorney said several times

he is vulnerable to misinformation. he wanted to be clearly looking into his mental state. another attorney said there should be no assumptions. >> what his defense will be, we do not know. that is something we will have to see layout in this case. what access to social media he had will be part of the investigation. >> there has also been a lot of speculation regarding his vulnerability to misinformation. that is certainly something we are going to look into. that we are going to delve into as his defense team.

>> nancy pelosi stopped by her home today. her husband continues recovering from a skull fracture and serious injuries. a judge granted a protective order for speaker pelosi and her husband that requires the suspect has no contact with them. her husband is making steady progress and what will be a long recovery. the suspect will be detained without bail at the san francisco county jail. a day for his preliminary hearing will be set this friday at 9:00 a.m. the defense now has up to 60 days to have a preliminary hearing. >> thank you. >> the mayor of san francisco joined us in studio today

now i team from stanford is raising concerns about a potential threat. >> the one question is, how much plastic might these whales be eating? and where they getting most of their plastic from? >> they set out to track where the whales feed and the food they are eating. micro plastics can flush through san francisco bay and other urban areas in high concentrations. >> most of the particles tend to be synthetic fibers. >> they used multiple methods to track the whales.

there was another critical piece of the puzzle. researchers used a specialized technology to eavesdrop. >> it is these big orange porcelain discs. >> they use a bouncing signal. then it is decoded with sophisticated software. >> we knew the density and size. we also know where the ocean floor is. >> they are digesting more micro plastics than previously believed.

this is kind of a memoir. arnold palmer, i did commercial with him. we hung out on his golf course. every day we would go eat in his little clubhouse. i would get to sit at the table with him. he always ordered an art of palmer. and i could not believe that. the server asked me and i said i would have a kevin nealon. and he asked what is that? i said it is like an arnold palmer but taller and better looking.
