tracking what's left of today's storm. the storm makes it a light storm and that is what we saw around the bay area today. light rain. it drivers needed their windshield wipers crossing the bay bridge and umbrellas and hoods were up as people work -- walked along the embarcadero. most of the rain moved through the city before noon. >> this is video from the north bay. abc7news was in nevada today while it was raining. a light sprinkle while our cameras were there. and look at this on the peninsula. a pretty good downpour. in addition to the rain, you can see how strong the wind was. quick's he is a life picture of clear conditions at the golden gate bridge. snow in the sierra and it is impacting traffic. we have the first chain controls of the season and we have several spin outs and crashes.

>> sandy is tracking our weather. >> a welcome sight getting the rain and the snow. right now, it is pretty quiet, but you will notice that there are showers off the coast line. as we get you closer here, it is right around fort bragg where you will notice a few showers showing up here, moving in our direction. as i mentioned, do not hang up those umbrellas. we still have to deal with the cold air coming in with this pressure system. this is cold unstable air with lightning sty -- strikes detected off the coast but we are not expecting that in the bay area. we are expecting this light level 1 storm and we will continue to bring in scattered showers tonight going into tomorrow. the morning commute will include some damp roadways. be prepared even if it's not going to be raining everywhere.

how much has fallen? even concord picking up one third of an inch. we have another storm coming and i will be back with a closer look. >> is our 2022 fire season over? leslie brinkley spoke with the fire experts on the east bay and is live with a look at that question. >> it seems like it was all a dream. for about three hours today, you might call it light rain but coming out of the summer, it felt like substantial rain in the bay area and so we wondered, how much of a difference does this make in terms of fire danger? the bay area has been tiptoeing through the 2022 fire season and to start november off with a substantial rain is certainly a bonus.

>> the rain will keep the fine fuels very wet for probably at least 10 days before it has the chance to drive. then we get a 10-day window of potential fire danger. >> the deadly campfire was sparked back in november of 2018. the thomas fire tore through 1000 structures. so we are not out of the woods yet. >> as great as the weather is right now, this is still a situation where we have a potential for high wind. we have seen several downed power lines today. about an hour ago, we had a fire in a vacant building. >> it might dampen the chances of a wildfire and it marks the start of candle in space heater season which brings an increased risk of house fires. oakland fire is ramping up the sound the alarm campaign this year.

>> we were able to distribute and install 900 smoke alarms in historically overlooked communities. >> the fire danger level depends on the weather forecast in the coming weeks. >> once the fuel moisture content, that measure that's important to us, is sufficiently high to reduce the risk of wildfire danger, then we will reduce those responses. >> what he means by responses is that today, tomorrow, and next week if there were a fire anywhere out here in the east bay, they would immediately dispatch five engines just in case. but once they get enough moisture building up in the air, they will go down to just one engine and that is what will really amount to an official end to fire season. >> we can all breathe a little bit easier as soon as that becomes official.

we've talked about the fire season being extended because of global warming and other factors. there doesn't seem to be a definitive fire season anymore. >> that is the point the experts i talked to today made. we used to have a really clear cut winter when the storm rain rolled in, we were good to go for the winter months but that's not the case anymore. we could have a wet beginning of november and turn around and have a totally dry late november december and be right back into fire danger again. it's a moving target and not easy to really differentiate right now. reporting live on the east bay, leslie brinkley, abc7news. >> the prosecution of the suspect in the attack of pulp lucy at the family san francisco home made his first court appearance today and pleaded not guilty and being held without bail. stephanie sierra warns us live

with where the case goes from here. >> we are learning chilling new details about what david allegedly planned after this attack and a warning to you and our viewers tonight that this information contains graphic details. a court filing release indicates paul poulos he was unconscious for three minutes after being hit with a hammer after police arrived and woke up in a pool of blood. david allegedly planned to target other state and federal politicians and their families as well as a local professor and that he allegedly told police i didn't really want to hurt him, but this was a suicide mission. i'm not going to stand here and do nothing even if it costs me my life. we also learned today that david dislocated his shoulder during the arrest and his public defender said he is vulnerable to misinformation, making it clear he would be thoroughly

looking into his mental state. we asked the district attorney about that but she was quick to point out there should be no assumptions of mental issues at this time. >> what his defense will be, we don't know. and what access to social media he had specifically is something that would still be part of the investigation. >> i will say that there has been a lot of speculation regarding mr. to pap vulnerability to -- to -- misinformation. and that is certainly something we are going to look into that we will delve into as his defense team. >> meanwhile, speaker nancy pelosi stopped by her pacific heights home today.

her husband paul continues recovering from a skull fracture and serious injuries to his right arm and hands. the judge granted a protective order for speaker pelosi and her husband that requires he have no contact with them and stay away from their home. he will remain detained at the san francisco county jail without bail. and we are told his preliminary hearing date will be scheduled this friday at 9:00 a.m.. he waved his right to have that happen within 10 days so it will happen up to 60 days until january 3. >> san francisco mayor london breed joined us on our 3:00 p.m. show getting answers. she asked the mayor if she faced threats at her home or office. >> i have had protesters in front of my home and including someone who walked around with a pitchfork, a big one that could have been used as a weapon.

scammers using stolen identities to file phony claims. many id theft victims tried to alert the edd when thieves used their names. but they got no response. kristen: michael finney has the frustrating story. >> this guy owns his own business and he's an employee of his own shipping company. so he was surprised when he got a notice from the edd saying that he just claimed disability benefits. he never did. he kept trying to tell them to stop the claim but at the end, he got a debit card. apparently loaded with benefits. >> i'm trying to tell you it's a fraud. i'm not trying to claim money i'm telling you not to pay. >> he was pleading and stop paying benefits to the scammer.
