nothing brings the pack together like a trip to great wolf lodge. now open in northern california. dan: the man accused of attacking paul pelosi made his first court appearance today. ama: he is being held without bail. afternoon court document said to kate he was on a suicide mission and plans to target other politicians. good evening. dan: those documents reveal new details about his intentions and mental state. ama: prosecutors offered up the information shortly after the court hearing. dan: j.r. stone reviewed those documents and is in the newsroom with details on what they revealed. reporter: within the last two hours, we heard the u.s. capitol police had cameras outside of nancy pelosi's house.

three familiar sources with the case say they were not being monitored at the time of the break-in. nancy pelosi was in washington, d.c.. those sources say it wasn't until they saw police lights flashing that they rewound the video and saw the break-in. 11 pages of motion to detain documents released tuesday, detailing some of the key moments last friday that house speaker nancy pelosi's san francisco home when her husband paul was attacked. the suspect quoted in the documents and after the hammer attack on paul pelosi saying, i didn't really want to hurt him but you know this was a suicide mission. >> i consider him to be dangerous. he sought out the speaker. when he could not locate her at her home, turned his violence towards her husband. reporter: the san francisco district attorney speaking after that motion to detain was granted by the judge. keeping the suspect locked up.

his lawyers saying he met his client monday night. >> we are going to be looking into his mental state. reporter: sources tell abc news that the pelosi family has already watched the surveillance video recorded from cameras at the house and that they will states -- soon be shown body camera video that has not been released of the attack. within the documents, dip cap is quoted as saying, i'm sick of the insane level of lies coming out of washington, d.c., i came here to have a little chat with his wife. a legal analyst commented on the amount of new detailed information released including the moments paul pelosi called 911. pelosi documented as saying several times that he didn't know the man. the suspect saying in the background that he was friends of theirs. pelosi again clarifying that he didn't know the man.

>> the das office was speaking to a much broader audience than just the judge in this motion. they were speaking to the audience and the public that is hijacking this case for their own purposes and saying, we need to quell the disinformation out there. >> not only is this someone who engaged in a preplanned attack on the speaker and her home, but someone who was willing to enact violence that was politically motivated. reporter: these new documents also say the suspect named several of their targets including a local professor, several state and federal politicians, and relatives of those politicians. it made reference to the threats. back to you. dan: thank you. as more details from the attack become clear, many elected leaders are responding. jim john's tonight on the warning to tone down the

divisive political rhetoric, stoking threats and violence. reporter: as the dust settles after the attack on nancy pelosi's husband paul last friday, calls for change continue to grow. one of the loudest voices coming from a southbay congressman who called the attack personal. >> in the bay area, we are a tightknit family. there are many times that i visited the pelosi home. reporter: data from the u.s. capitol police shows that threats against lawmakers have more than doubled since 2017. some have been very open about the ongoing threats to not just themselves but also their families. following pelosi's attack, local leaders say the divisiveness needs to stop. >> we need to lower the temperature of this country and speak down against any threats or political violence. it's unpatriotic. reporter: it's not just national level politicians. >> i've had protesters in front of my home, including someone

stream. we are on 24/7. ama: one community group is working to get underrepresented people to the polls this november 8. election officials addressed concerns over some residents receiving multiple ballots. amanda del castillo yo details these issues and efforts. reporter: with the midterm election days away, seven santa clara counties are noticing multiple ballots in their mailbox. this may sound alarming but the county's registrar of voters office says it's common. no vote is counted twice. the county system generates a second ballot to reflect any changes made by a resident. >> anything at the post office, dmv, on the registration, on the website, any forms that they bring here. anything. >> legislative affairs manager evelyn mendez says people can request a second ballot in case the first is lost or misplaced. >> we have systems to make sure

dan: a woman survived a halloween crowd surge that killed more than 150 people in south korea. she's a kindergarten teacher. she shared this photo from her hospital bed where she talked about the moment she realized she was in real trouble. >> i could feel people in front of me going forward. the crowd was pushing and pushing and pushing. my feet started going with the people. dan: she also shared this photo of the crowd moments before the chaos. she was in the human crush for about 20 minutes, not able to breathe, she bit people on top of her to keep them from suffocating her. >> i remember being under all these people and thinking, i am not dying. i am not doing this to my

experts to find out. reporter: the bay area has been tiptoeing through the 2022 fire season. to start november off with a substantial rain is certainly a bonus. >> the saturating rain will keep fuels very wet for at least 10 days before it has a chance to dry. it gives us a 10 day window of lower potential fire danger. reporter: california's deadly camp fire was sparked in november of 2018. the thomas fire tore through 1000 structures inventor and santa barbara counties in december of 2017. we are not out of the woods yet. >> as much as it is great for right now, combing some fears, this is still a situation where we have potential for high wind. we've seen several downed power lines today. an hour ago, we had a fire in a vacant building. reporter: rain might dampen the chances of a wildfire but it also marks the start of kendall

and space heater season which always brings an increased risk of house fires. oakland fire is still ramping up their sound the alarm campaign this year. >> we were able to distribute and install over 900 smoke alarms in historically overlooked communities. reporter: the fire danger level depends on the weather forecast in the coming weeks. >> we will keep an eye on the weather. once those moisture -- the measure that is important to us are sufficiently high as to reduce the risk of wildfire danger, then we will reduce those responses. reporter: right now or tomorrow or next week if there were a wildland fire, five engines would be dispatched. if the moisture level increases enough, they will go down to just one engine. we are not there yet. abc7news. ama: the sierra is under a
