morning, andrew with only five days into election day, president biden says americans can no longer take democracy for granted. this morning. president biden is warning about political violence ahead of the midterm elections take democracy for granted any longer, saying in a speech last night, voters are choosing between democracy and extremism. biden pointing the finger directly at former president trump democracy under attack because the defeated former president of the united states refused to accept the results. the 2020 election. biden then link the violence of the capital on january 6th to the recent attack on house speaker nancy pelosi is husband paul after the assailant entered the home, asking, where's nancy? where's nancy? cameras spotted speaker pelosi last night, leaving her home under heavy security in san francisco, where her husband, paul remains hospitalized. police say david cpap broke into the couple's home before knocking paul and conscious with a hammer.

investigators say to perhaps intent was to kidnap speaker pelosi. not only is this someone who engaged in a in a pre planned attack on the speaker in her in her home, and but someone who was willing to enact violence that was politically motivated. capitol police say they have access to 1800 cameras at their command center in washington, d c, including some outside of pelosi's home, but those cameras were not being actively monitored because the speaker was not home. at the time of the attack, capitol police only noticed a problem when they saw lights from local police cars in the video feed. sources say the pelosi home was equipped with a private security system, but it's not clear of the systems alarm was activated . now a top democrat, is demanding answers in a letter to the capitol police chief congresswoman zoloft and rights that targeted attack on pelosi raises significant questions about security protections for members of congress, particularly those in the presidential line of succession.

prices may be here to stay for a while. new figures out this morning show companies are still hiring despite looming concerns about an economic slowdown, private companies added 239,000 jobs last month while wages increased nearly 8% and right now there are two jobs available for every worker, meaning employers will likely need to keep raising salaries to attract workers. those higher labor costs are often passed on to customers, meaning higher prices, fueling more inflation. on wall street stocks tumbling yesterday after the federal reserve raised interest rates for the sixth time this year, trying to cool the economy and bring down spending. fed chairman jerome powell says it's too soon to speculate when the fed will pause interest rate hikes, suggesting rates could go even higher than expected. we think there's some ground to cover, but before we meet that test, and that's why we say that ongoing rate increases will be appropriate, we may ultimately moved to higher levels than we thought. meanwhile inflation is hitting food prices, especially hard in response grocery chain,

want to miss this on abc. lawyers for two iowa teenagers charged with killing their spanish teacher want the judge to throw out most, if not all, of the evidence against them. they're accusing police of obtaining their search warrants illegally. court documents claim the boys ambushed and beat the teacher with a baseball bat last year after she gave one of them a bad grade. unusual story from stanford university and man reportedly lived on campus for months, but he didn't work there and he wasn't a student. this morning questions being raised after an imposter was found living at one of the country's most prestigious universities. i thought he was a student. he said. he was a student 20 year old william curry of alabama is accused of posing as a student on social media and living on stanford university's campus for nearly a year. he had a whole instagram page that many of my friends had already followed.

that sandy was stanford class of 25 that he was a coke scholar, um, that you transferred from duke. the school newspaper reports. curry had been squatting and at least five dorms since last year, the university says he was removed from campus last december, but reportedly returned several times. sometimes climb through windows. he sometimes was able to take a student id card, according to residents who lived with him last year. curry is not charged with the crime the school suggests he could be cited for press passing if he returns, stanford tells abc news. while there are safety protocols in place, the unique aspects of this case and mr curry's persistence and ability to ingratiate himself with our student community have made it clear that gaps exist in those protocols. i think a lot of people are still wondering about the unanswered questions, which is really? how did this happen? and why did it happen? coming up later on good morning america how curry was found living in the basement of a dorm this
