but we want to start with drew with our accuweather forecast. drew: we are down to the 30's and are chilly areas. 33 in fairfield. palo alto equally as chilly. the frost advisory until 9:00 this morning. do not be surprised if you find frost on your windshield as you wake up. a live look outside. it is crisp and clear. stormy weather returns for the weekend. reggie: a second round of missiles has been fired by north korea a day after kim jong-un -- south korean officials confirmed three ballistic missiles were tested just hours ago. kumasi: analysts believe one was an intercontinental ballistic

missile that failed. south korea fired three of its own defense missiles. reggie: this also comes as yesterday the white house accused north korea of covertly shipping a significant number of artillery shells to russia in support of its invasion of ukraine. kumasi: now checking in with the developing news on the attack on paul pelosi. the suspect is expected to be in court tomorrow. nancy pelosi was seen leaving her home and returning to san francisco general, where her husband is still recovering. the broken window at their home has been replaced. a man broke into the home looking for the speaker and then attacked paul pelosi with a hammer. the house has security cameras but they were not being monitored. nobody saw the break-in as it happened. other security issues are being looked into this morning. lena howland is live in san

francisco with more of what the suspect's neighbors are saying. >> days after the attack on paul pelosi and his pacific heights home, neighbors of the 42-year-old suspect, david depape, described him as a quiet man who did not seek social interaction. we went to his neighborhood at richmond were according to court documents, depape lived in this garage. residents said he had lived there for a couple of years. some said they knew of its interest in online conspiracy theories. nancy has been in this neighborhood for 50 years and said he would do handiwork for some neighbors but most of the time he would keep to himself. it was not until recently that he began acting strange. >> i had no reason to think he was anything different except one conversation. just like one of the people said he began acting a little different. >> he was looking to some ideas

that are out there in politics and the social sphere to solve some deep-seated problems of his. >> as depape now faces multiple felony charges, neighbors say they wish they could have done something to stop it but they know with him being so quiet, there is not much they could have done. depape is expected to be back in court tomorrow for a bail hearing regarding his state charges. we are still waiting to hear when his first appearance in federal court might be. reggie: thank you. now to the economy and the effort to break down inflation while avoiding a recession. the fed announced the sixth interest rate hike of the year and more could be on the way. we get new details about the job market. jobina: new data this morning showing companies are still hiring even though there are

concerns about the economy slowing. right now, there are two jobs for everyone worker forcing companies to increase salaries to attract employees. after the interest rate hike yesterday, the fed said it is too early to speculate when the rate hikes will stop. the fed chairman said we can expect more in the future. >> we think there is more ground to cover. ongoing rate increases will be appropriate and we might move to higher levels than we thought. jobina: this is a real balancing act. economists say with each rate hike, the odds of triggering a recession grow. we have one bright spot. grocery store chain aldi is giving customers a break for thanksgiving. it has reset prices on thanksgiving staples to 2019 prices. kumasi: federal agents have taken down a catalytic converter theft ring that stretched across the country.

other states across the country as you can see on the map. oklahoma, wyoming, minnesota, new york, nevada, virginia and new jersey. according to court documents, people stole catalytic converters and sent them to a company into genia -- new jersey. this video shows the home law enforcement showed up. three family members were arrested in sacramento. the allegedly sold more than 38 million dollars in catalytic converters to this company in new jersey. reggie: today marks one year since a driver hit and killed alameda county supervisor. the driver will not face charges. our media partner in the bay area reports charges could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. investigators say she apparently did not see her because the sun was shining in her eyes.

final exams at the university of california campuses across the state could be in jeopardy after 50,000 student workers voted to strike. workers include student researchers, teaching assistants and graders. they are demanding better pay and they are upset with what they call unfair labor tactics. the chronicle was told plastic and research would continue seamlessly during a strike. a uc berkeley spokesperson acknowledged a walk would likely force class cancellations. kumasi: medical professionals are rallying today across the nation in defiance of abortion bands. it is being called a national day of action. they are calling on health-care providers to demand lawmakers stop creating laws that criminalize them for doing their jobs. people will be protesting in washington, d.c. and all across the country. this all comes after the supreme court's decision to overturn roe v. wade this year.

authorities aren't taking action to make sure we are all safe when we had to the polls. gloria: san francisco's top election official says the violent attack on paul pelosi is a game changer. they are ramping up security for the midterm election. the director of elections in san francisco said they work with the fbi on federal elections in the past but this is the first time they are working with them on a midterm election. they have additional support from the san francisco police department, the mayor's office and federal agencies in wake of the attack on paul pelosi. >> we are taking every avenue we can to provide security and making sure people feel secure. gesturing election day but during the election cycle. >> if people are intimidated and do not participate, that is a threat to our entire system. gloria: a professor at san jose state university said they do

not want voters to feel intimidated or threatened by simply casting their vote and jackson said we should not allow that intimidation to keep us from voting. she said this is about preserving democracy. reggie: we are making it easy to get to know every issue on the ballot. this a voter guide is on abc7news.com. it shows the arguments for and against each measure. kumasi: saturday's powerball jackpot is now at $1.5 billion. the highest powerball prize in laundry history. this came after nobody matched all six numbers last night. california lottery official say before last night's drawing, ticket sales total $5.7 million in just one hour. this jackpot's run has brought $90 million to california. two tickets sold in california matched five numbers, those were worth $1 million each. the winning numbers are 2, 11,

it is 6:24. the ceo will be paying $30 million for allegedly covering up sexual assault allegations. the new york attorney general's office said senior leadership intentionally concealed multiple allegations. cbs is agreeing to pay $22 million to shareholders and $6 million to strengthen reporting on sexual harassment and assault complaints. he has denied all the allegations and step down as ceo in 2018. reggie: on the peninsula, a flag raising was held in san mateo county in honor of the transgender day of remembrance. the transgender. pride flag was raised. this is a kickoff to a series of events in the county ahead of november 20, the official transgender day of remembrance. a special garden is growing in front of our offices at abc 7.

morning. temperature slowly climb into the 50's and 60's later on today but rain does return to the forecast over the weekend. reggie: developing news on the attack on paul pelosi. the incident has taken center stage ahead of tuesday's midterm elections. president biden once again with strong words about the attack. lena howland has more on the president's latest speech addressing political violence. lena: president biden is urging all voters to use their ballots next tuesday to preserve democracy, especially after the recent attack on paul pelosi in his pacific heights home. a warning that the future of american democracy is at stake in next week's midterm elections, now just five days away. biden directly condemning former president trump for encouraging other republicans and supporters to reject the 2020 election results, an act that has led to

reggie: stanford university is reviewing safety procedures after it confirmed a man lived on campus illegally for a year. stanford said the man was reported on campus several times since last december and was recently last week in a dorm basement. the man has been identified as 20-year-old william curry. two reporters at the stanford daily broke the story. >> he sometimes was able to take a student's id card to enter a residence.

he was getting let in a lot of the time by people who thought either he was living there with them or he was a friend of someone living in the dorm. reggie: stanford posted a statement online sing in part, the university's department of public safety had multiple stayaway letters to present to him but was unable to locate him until recently. kumasi: an independent lab set it found high levels of cancer-causing chemicals in dry shampoo. the lab sent a letter to the fda claiming at least 34 different brands of dry shampoo had quantifiable levels of benzene in them. this comes two wfter shas rerev. the lab to be expanded. some people getting temporary tattoos from a new york based company with a location in san francisco are regretting the decision. the chronicle reports the tattoos are lasting longer than

expected. some people say the tattoos do not look like what they wanted. the even called them unrecognizable. a company representative said customers were warned the tattoos can last nine to 15 months but the exact duration can vary depending on different factors. reggie: the state justice department is demanding major plastic bag manufacturers prove their bags are recyclable. the attorney general said he is giving companies two weeks to produce evidence or face potential enforcement. he said the majority of curbside recycling programs do not have the infrastructure to recycle plastic bags. >> instead, the placement of these bags in your home's recycling bins interferes with the processing of actual recyclable waste, shutting down equipment and increasing the risk of worker injury. reggie: california passed a law to start phasing out single-use

reggie: an effort to make san francisco's twin peaks just got a big boost. the project is receiving a $1.9 million grant. the money will be used to turn the eastern portion of the roadway into a promenade. this is part of a larger plan to improve the area, which has become more popular during the pandemic. city officials say roughly 800 people hike, jog and bike into the area every weekday. kumasi: are you getting tired of looking for when your package will arrive in the mail? gmail contract the package for you. google says tracking options will be shown in your inbox. delivery information will be wrapped up in a small summary graphic. it will work with most major u.s. carriers. a delay tracking feature is in the works of let you know if your package will be arriving later than expected. reggie: we are seeing how markets are reacting to the federal reserve's sixth interest rate hike of the year.
