breaking news out of amador county. alexis gabe's remains have been found. they were located in the town of plymouth yesterday. the identity was confirmed today. she disappeared in january, last seen leaving the home of her ex-boyfriend. her car was found in oakley with the keys in the ignition but there was no sign of her. jones drove to the area where alexis's remains were found in the hours following her disappearance. jones was killed in june when police moved into her rest him. oakland police say there will be a news conference early next week. ama: at least two people are dead and five hurt following a fiery collision at el camino real avenue. emergency personnel found two people dead inside one car when they arrived. another person trapped and to people outside of one of the cars.

bystanders rescued to others. the injured have been taken to stanford hospital. dan: we will move onto the weather and much-needed rain heading this way. ama: here is sandhya patel. sandhya: the weekend is going to be the start of a wet pattern but not a washout. let me show you this storm impact scale. it's a light level 1 every single day beginning tomorrow through tuesday. we will be seeing some wet weather for several days. right now, the atmospheric river in the pacific northwest but that life -- light level 1 storm will be heading in our direction. we are going to get a piece of the energy. tomorrow afternoon in the north bay, you start to see light rain at around 1:00 going into 5:00. it crosses the east bay and parts of the peninsula. not everyone is going to get rain out of the system. sunday night, we have a much more of a soaker coming our way.

snowfall will amount to 48 inches at kirkwood. 40 in donner by midweek. it's a light level 1 storm for this weekend. rain late sunday night. weekend totals under a half an inch. i will be back with a closer look at what you can expect heading into early next week which includes election day. dan: thank you. developing news. it's been one week since the attack on paul pelosi and the preliminary hearing for the suspect was held for december 14. luz pena was in court and learned more about what the prosecutor and defendant may be planning. reporter: today for the first time since the attack, nancy pelosi spoke on camera about the status of her husband's health. this week since david the papp hit paul pelosi in the head with a hammer. >> it will be a long haul but he will be well. it is just so tragic how it

happened. nonetheless, we have to be optimistic. he is surrounded by family. that's a wonderful thing. reporter: pelosi speaking to her supporters in this video. in court, a judge set the date for the preliminary hearing in this case. >> we will be determining what witnesses we need to call, whether we call a victim, whether we call the 911 dispatcher, whether we present certain evidence. reporter: they have strong evidence against him to take them to trial including body camera video from the two officers who responded to the 911 call last friday. >> the police observed the suspect pulled the hammer and wet -- away and struck mr. pelosi. reporter: the daughter of nancy pelosi and paul pelosi was present. the judge revealed today that she had worked with christine pelosi in the 90's. >> we are unclear whether that

judge will hear any evidence in that case. reporter: a law professor was a trial loyal for the office of the public defender in san francisco. he gave insight into what the suspect's defense team may be planning. >> in this particular case, it appears possibly that there may be a mental defense. the defense attorney is likely to ask any questions to elicit testimony that substantiates that the defendant was asking -- acting bizarrely. reporter: he faces 13 years to life in prison if convicted. attempted murder, burglary, and elder abuse. the suspect has entered a not guilty plea to all these charges. abc7news. dan: today, we heard from nancy pelosi for the first time since the attack on her husband. >> thank you, thank you, thank you for your kind words, your prayers, and your good wishes for paul. it's going to be a long haul but he will be well.

it is just so tragic how it happened. dan: this was part of a video message from the house speaker. she touched on the incident before focusing on next week's midterm elections. ama: layoffs at twitter have begun after elon musk's takeover of the san francisco-based company. approximately 784 employees at its market street headquarters will be let go. the rest of the layoffs are in other cities in the u.s. and around the globe. cutbacks were across-the-board. sales, marketing, engineering, and an ai group working to make algorithms more transparent. >> the key question will be, how much worse is a lot of the harassment and abuse that happens on the platform going to go? he's made it clear that he wants to remove some of the guardrails, the marta ration. that could make it far worse. ama: muska explained the massive cutbacks, saying it's an effort to put twitter on a healthy path.

united airlines is the latest company to pull advertising from twitter. the customer service on twitter is not impacted. the exodus includes general mills and audi. advertisers are worried about the moderation of content on the social media site. elon musk says twitter has had a massive drop in revenue due to activist groups pressurizing advertisers. dan: a travel book are accused of taking money from dozens of bay area residents and not booking their vacations at destination weddings paid more than $147,000 in restitution today and could avoid going to jail. wendy wong had until today to come up with the money after she pleaded guilty to two felony counts in august. the das office tells melanie woodrow that wong paid restitution at the last minute. the judge postponed her sentencing until september. there were 48 victims and more than $200,000 lost in total for all victims but not everyone

requested restitution. no comment from her attorney tonight. ama: the last weekend before election day in the bay area. one of the biggest races to watch is the san jose mayor's race. the team at the registrar of voters office is expecting a busy election day. people are doing less early voting and studying the ballot closely before turning it in. the county is expecting a voter turnout between 55 and 65%, a big improvement from the june primaries. >> it was 35% in june. we are expecting it to be higher. we have enough staff on hand to handle a million voters. ama: they are sorting and counting early votes. there has been a 19% turnout. 103 secure vote centers are open now through 8:00 on election nights. on election night, we will be livestreaming results as soon as the polls close for three hours from 8:00 to 11:00.

ama: daylight saving time is ending and we return to standard time sunday at 2:00. there's no shortage of opinions out there on whether the time -- it's time to put an end to time changes. reporter: get ready to set clocks back. this sunday, the sun sets on daylight savings time. next i feel like we should abolish it.

it's a relic of the past. reporter: falling back or springing forward, the time change is sure to elicit an opinion from people on the streets to politicians. >> we don't have to keep doing this stupidity anymore. >> any parent who has worked to get a toddler on a regular sleeping schedule understands the absolute chaos changing our clocks creates. reporter: emmy couldn't agree more. she has an 18-month-old daughter. >> it's really hard to get them on a new schedule every half year. so i would say, let's get rid of it. reporter: the u.s. on it voted to make daylight saving time permanent starting next year. the bill is stalled in the house. opinion is split. an energy expert at uc berkeley. he says the u.s. has already experimented with making daylight saving permanent. >> we had that experience in the 1974. there was an embargo.

we accelerated daylight saving time, thinking that would save oil. we were going to school in the dark. there were quite a few accidents and people were very unhappy about it. reporter: those in support of making the change site reasons like letting children play outdoors later and reducing seasonal depression. >> i do understand what other people are saying about being able to have more daylight during the waking hours. it probably helps a lot of people. >> it's a debate in all of europe to remove it completely. reporter: she's from sweden and she has an opinion. >> personally, i think it's weird. i'm not good at switching times. reporter: on that note, one more reminder. set those clocks back saturday night. abc7news. ama: un-abortion provider in the 1930's and 40's was pardoned today by governor newsom.

she was convicted in 1949 of abortion and conspiracy to commit abortion and was sentenced to four years in prison. at the time, abortion was illegal in california. the move comes days before voters decide on prop one which would amend the state constitution to protect reproductive rights. dan: the plan was that this would be the final oakland first friday celebration today. but it may not be the end of the line after all. ♪ a place where residents gather for a night of activities got enough funding to continue for another six months. this is a good sign but organizers are still looking for sponsors to keep it going. the event includes music, food, performances from local artists and vendors. >> this is my favorite market to come to because it is such a wide variety of people and food and everything. it's a big event. dan: some funding and donations have kept the event afloat.

organizers met with a nonprofit from france this week to discuss a future partnership. the next first friday is scheduled for december 2. ama: to powerball fever. the jackpot is up to $1.6 billion. largest ever. in san francisco, customers at a market in the hate working to try to luck. they joined millions of people hoping for a chance to win what could be a lump sum payment of 782 million dollars. that's 493 million. the next drawing is tomorrow night. dan: tough to make ends meet with just that. it was a swinging friday night for dozens of north bay seniors this evening. the redwood senior living facility in mill valley hosted its annual prom along with local high school students. jim johnson was there to check out the fun and has the story. ♪ reporter: from the outside

looking in, it was a night decades in the making. on friday, the redwood senior living community in marin held its annual senior prom. >> i got my shiny clothes on. i don't have any prom dresses anymore. i don't own her skirt anymore. reporter: it has been a tradition at the community and was put on hold for several years because of the pandemic. this fall, it's back and bigger than ever with local high school students joining dozens of seniors for a night of dancing, laughter, and fun. >> i can say that i'm very excited. i would be delighted to dance with a boy from high school. reporter: for many folks tonight, the evening isn't just tonight for fun. it's a way to relive their lives in a whole new way. two people that might be the most true for our great stammen and her partner audrey hasten. the two met each other several years ago while living at the redwoods. >> i love love love, obsessed for life. reporter: the pair told me about

their lives as a couple and also as individuals before they knew each other. they say while they attended their own high school proms many years ago, they weren't necessarily experiences they enjoyed. a time where being a gay person simply wasn't accepted. >> i actually one time was the queen of a prom and i went by myself. that was an interesting year as a senior. >> i just didn't want to ask a king. reporter: this prom is all the more special for the couple. a night made even more memorable by being crowned the two prom queens. they say they live their lives day by day, uncertain of what the future may hold. no matter what comes their way, they tell me they are grateful to spend the remainder of their time together. >> we don't have that many dances. so it's very special. >> i can count on one hand. reporter: abc7news.
