their identity yesterday. gabe disappeared january. she was last seen leaving the antioch home of her ex-boyfriend , marshall jones. her car was found in oakley with the keys in the ignition. there was no sign of her. investigators say they determined jones drove to the area where alexis's remains were found in the hours following her disappearance. jones was killed in a seattle suburb in june when police moved to arrest him. oakland police say they will be a news conference early next week. now to the latest in the attack on paul pelosi. a job set a preliminary -- judge set april them in our for the suspect on a mover 15. >> today for the first time since the attack, house or mansi pelosi spoke on camera about the status of her husband's health, this since david a pep allegedly below -- broken to the pelosi's home and hit paul pelosi in the head with a hammer. >> it will be a long haul but he will be well.

for paul. it is going to be a long haul, but he will be well. it is just so tragic how it happened. liz: she touched on the incident briefly before focusing on next week's midterm elections. paul pelosi is home after he was released on thursday. mass layoffs are underway at san francisco bay's twitter as president biden calls out elon musk. at any event, the president said musk is allowing the website to spew lies across the world. 784 employees at san francisco's market street headquarters will be let go from their jobs. the rest of the layoffs are in other cities around the world. cutbacks were across the board. sales, marketing, engineering, and even the ai group working to make twitter's algorithms more transparent and fair. >> the key question will be how much worse is a lot of the harassment and all of the abuse that happens on the platform going to go? he has made it clear he wants to remove some of the guardrails of

moderation. that could make it far worse. liz: in his first company-wide email, elon musk explained the cutbacks, saying it is an effort to "put twitter on a healthy path." lawsuits are being filed contending musk broke the law during these layoffs. a los angeles-based trial attorney spoke about it on yesterday's getting answers. >> we have a very strong worker protection law, and it provides that if there are mass layoffs at companies, employees are supposed to get 60 days notice. liz: she went on to say twitter is keeping some employees for 60 days through the beginning of january. they will not actually be working but they will get their pay and benefits. moving on, united airlines is the latest company from pulling their advertising on twitter. the company's customer service on twitter is not affected.

so they will be tweeting people that we at them. the exodus includes general -- tweet at them. the exodus includes general mills, pfizer, and audi. advertisers are worried about the company's ability to moderate content on the site. elon musk's twitter has had a massive drop in revenue due to activist groups pressuring advertisers. we are waiting to learn the name of two people killed in a crash in redwood city. five others were hurt at out -- at el camino royale and finger avenue just before 8:00 last night. emergency personnel found two people dead inside one car when they arrived. another person was trapped and two people were outside one of the cars. bystanders rescued two others. the injured have been taken to stanford hospital. we have entered the final week of campaigning before the midterm elections. both parties are doing what it takes to drum up support for key senate races. abc news reporter ty hernandez is breaking down the final push. ty: the final weekend of

his opponent, raphael warnock, is in savannah. ty hernandez, abc news, new york. liz: here at home, one of the biggest races is one of the hotly contested san jose mayors race. the team at the register and voters office is expecting a busy election day. officials say people are doing less early voting and studying the ballot closely before turning it in. the county is expecting a voter turnout of between 55% and 65%, a big improvement from the june primaries. >> it was 35% in june. we are expecting it to be highroad we are prepared. we have enough staff on hand to handle if we had one million voters turn in their ballot. liz: these poll workers are hard at work sorting and counting early votes. so far, there has been a 19% turnout. a total of 103 secure vote centers are open until 8:00 p.m. on election day. on election night, we are going to be livestreaming results as soon as the polls close for three hours straight, from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. you can watch that with our bay area app on your smartphone or smart tv.

to places. and faces. and the warmest of memories. the magic of the train is more than how it takes us away. it's how it brings us together. ♪♪ liz: welcome back. here is a live look from our exploratorium camera. looking out over the san francisco skyline. thanks for waking up with us. chevron agrees to a settlement over an oil spill, reaching a settlement with the contra costa district attorney's office and california department of fish and wildlife. this is after an oil spill last west year at the richmond refinery marine terminal. a small hole in a pipeline leak 700 57 gallons of diesel water mixture into the bay. the oil companies pay $130,000 to the state. $70,000 will go to two wildlife

funds and $2500 to the coast guard. they will also have to improve their pipeline expection program. governor newsom posthumously pardoned an abortion provider from the 1930's and 1940's. laura miner was convicted in 1949 of abortion and conspiracy to commit abortion and was sentenced to four years in prison. at the time, abortion was illegal in california. the move by the governor comes days before voters decide on proposition one, which would amend the state constitution to protect reproductive rights. at least one person is dead and multiple people missing in oklahoma, due to a severe tornado hitting the south. according to preliminary reports, nine twisters formed in texas -- four arkansas, and one in oklahoma. in texas, 50 homes have been damaged or destroyed. as of this morning, thousands across the region are out of power.

the total count of tornadoes will likely increase as crews continue their damage surveys. in the north bay, christmas decorations are slashed and spray-painted outside a local hardware store. the general manager says early sunday morning eight giant holiday tent were vandalized, spray-painted with anarchy symbols and pentagrams. he says store security cameras but a suspect walking around the tent with pruning shears before dawn. the $2000 worth of inflatable's all a total loss. vandals also took black paint to the store's nativity scene. most of the paint has since been removed. >> very sad and -- that somebody wants to deface something that is so joyful. we are just trying to make the community happy. >> i hope they get caught. liz: police are investigating, reviewing surveillance video. for now, he says the new display will go up soon to replace the fallen holiday hopes. you are about to get a brighter morning. daylight savings time is ending and we will return to standard

installed in the house. opinion is split. severn borenstein is an energy expert at berkeley. -- uc berkeley. he says the u.s. has already experimented with making daylight saving permanent. >> we had that experience in 1974. during the era of the oil embargo. we actually accelerated daylight saving time, thinking that would save oil. and we were going to school in the dark and there were quite a few accidents and people were unhappy about it. tara: those in support of the change site letting children play outdoors and reducing seasonal depression. >> i understand what people are saying about being able to have no daylight during the waking hours. it probably helps a lot of people's moods. >> it is a debate in all of europe to remove it completely. tara: tyra brambourque is from sweden, and she too has an opinion.

announcer: building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions, this is abc7news. liz: doctors across the nation and bay area are sounding the alarm. more and more kids are ending up in hospital beds trying to recover from a respiratory illness. the warning from health experts. thank you for joining us, you are watching the news at 6:30 on abc 7 here with lisa argen and we are tracking rain. it is good news. lisa: several days of rain starting today. a level 1 system bringing showers but right now it is about the fog and mild temperatures. mid 50's. visibility has been reduced in the east bay and south bay. you can see hayward at 25 mile. san jose is little better but there is fog around the bay through 8:00-9:00.

the temperatures with the cloud cover 12 to 14 -- 17 degrees milder. here's the plan today, 9:00, dry. you may have a sprinkle or two but you can see toward helzberg here comes a light line of rain that will be impacting the north bay through the middle of the afternoon. 4:00 san francisco into oakland and emeryville. you can see half moon bay and towards the evening hours, further south into the south bay. this begins the trend of several wet days. we will talk about the strongest rainfall, the amounts in just a few minutes. liz: thank you. now to the growing health emergency for children in many parts of the country. a respiratory virus causing increased hospitalizations. now numbers released by the cdc showcase it is heading a two-year high. alex stone speaks to experts about the spreading virus. alex: at children's hospitals nationwide, the flow of children struggling to breathe is growing

rapidly. one part of california declaring a state of emergency. >> we are seeing younger kids requiring admission to the hospital. alex: rsv cases heading a two-year high, twice as many as last year. >> we have seen about a 500% increase in positive testing in children admitted for upper respiratory infection. alex: it is not covered but could be a result of the pandemic. doctors believe many children were protected from getting rsv during social distancing and masking and now all of it -- all are getting it once and older ages get it because they did not get it during state all measures. in michigan, a six-year-old boy died from rsv. >> very few children die from rsv and the kids that get that sick, it is usually a child with underlying illness. alex: this week, ariel russia was inside of the pediatric unit cohen's trail during medical center in new york working overcapacity. >> when a child comes in with one of the rest were torrey

the teeth are line will run from chinatown to sunnydale, with four new stations. riders can connect to other light rail lines at the union station. you can check out the central subway later this month when it makes its debut with free weekend-only service between the four new stations. a long time park in oakland chinatown has a new name. madison park was renamed in honor of late wilma chan. she was struck and killed by a car a year ago this week. chan served as an assembly member before joining the board of supervisors. more fallout for kyrie irving. nike suspended its relationship with the basketball player. irving tweeted support for an anti-semitic movie. in a statement, nike says there is no room for hate speech within its company. after initially refusing to apologize. the team suspended him for at least five games without pay.

irving did eventually apologize but after many companies cut ties with him. a regular swim in the ocean turned violent after woman got bitten by a shark in del mar beach near san diego. a competitive swimmer and -- in college was resting -- the victim was resting in the water friday morning with her swim partner. she described suddenly getting bumped before seeing a shark night her right leg. she's being treated at the hospital and is in stable condition. this is the first time a shark bite has occurred on del mar beach which will be closed throughout the weekend. oakland's first friday celebration planned to have his final event but turns out this may not be the end. ♪ a place where residents gather for a night of activities got enough funding to continue for another six months. this is a good sign but organizers are looking for sponsors to keep it going. the long-standing event includes music, food, performances from

local vendors, and artists. >> this is probably my favorite market to come to because it is a wide variety of people, food, and everything, and it is a big event. liz: some city funding and donations kept the event afloat. organizers met with a nonprofit from france to discuss future partnership. the next first friday is scheduled for december 2. happening tonight, the powerball jackpot is the largest in history at $1.6 million. we saw several customers buying tickets at the supermarket. they joined millions of people across america hoping for a chance to win what could be a lump sum payment of $782.4 million. after federal tax, that is $493 million. today, the marin arts and craft show continues in san rafael. you can see a wide range of handcrafted jewelry, art, woodwork, ceramics, clothing, and more. the exhibits bring together

independent artisans using sustainable materials. it starts at 10:00 at the marin center exhibit hall in san rafael and last until 6:00 tonight and 5:00 tomorrow. it was a swinging friday night for dozens of north bay seniors. the redwood senior living facility hosted its annual prom along with localizable students. tim johns was also there to check out the fun and bring us the story. >> from the outside looking in, it was a night decades in the making. on friday, the redwood senior living community in marin held its annual senior prom. >> i got my shiny close on. [laughter] i don't have any prom dresses anymore but i do not even own a scar anymore. >> the event, which has been a tradition at the community, was put on hold for several years because of the pandemic but this fall, it is back and bigger than ever with local high school students joining dozens of seniors for a night of dancing, laughter, and fun. >> i can tell you i'm very excited.
