better bay area moving forward finding solutions. this is abc 7 news. it was a case that grabbed headlines now more than nine months after she disappeared alexis gabe's remains have been found. good evening, and thank you for joining us. i'm dion limb. you're watching abc 7 news at 11:00 the month-long search for a missing east bay woman has come to a tragic end. we first told you last night at 11:00 the remains of 24 year old alexis gabe were located in a remote part of amador county thursday in the town of plymouth following a tip to law enforcement. abc 7 news reporter cornell bernard tells us there is heartbreak and sadness in alexis's hometown of oakley tonight. very sad, very heartbreaking. very sad, i just wish peace for her family. now the news that most everyone

in oakley had feared coming true about missing local woman alexis gabe. i mean, i feel like a lot of us. thought it was a possibility, but there was still a little bit of hope that maybe she was somewhere police confirming the 24 year olds partial remains were located thursday in plymouth, california in amador county. she disappeared on january 26th where she was last seen leaving the antioch home of her former boyfriend marshall jones, her car was found in oakley, but there was no sign of her investigators determine jones drove to the spot where alexis has remains were found just hours after her disappearance police shared grim detailed with the gabe family about the trash bags. jones was seen carrying to his mother's house the gabe spoke to us in august seeing more than one. we question the policing. so what does that supposed to mean this does that mean? she's in pieces marshall curtis jones a 27 year old male and a

resident of antioch. killed alexis at his home on or about january 26th. 2022 jones was killed near seattle in june when police moved into arrest him. there were large-scale community searches for alexis the class kids foundation assisted in the efforts founder mark classes own daughter. pauly was murdered in the 1990s. they can find a way to move forward into honor alexis life the gabe family requesting privacy, but posted information on facebook on their plans to honor alexis with a celebration of life memorial next january and a candlelight vigil on december 9th the family saying i hope you can come pray with us alexis would appreciate your presence that night oakley police plan to give further details at a news conference on monday morning in oakley cornell bernard abc 7 news. the contra costa county district

attorney's office released a statement that reads in part quote. we are hopeful that the discovery of alexis's partial remains will provide the gabe's a sense of closure to this tragedy. we're also hopeful that this discovery will provide law enforcement with additional evidence in the ongoing investigation of her death. moving on to the north bay now the poly class community theater in petaluma held a grand reopening celebration today. it was originally dedicated in honor of 12 year old poly class in 1994 following her disappearance and murder. class was known throughout the community as a passionate theater performer local performers took to the stage to mark the event the refurbished theater held two shows as part of its long-awaited return the poly class foundation raised more than a million dollars to bring the theater back to life. the work of the class foundation has done since the tragedy has been absolutely incredible. and anything we can do to continue to support that now i have a 12 year old daughter now myself and i think about poly a

the pandemic is likely to draw a huge crowds to tahoe this season since kevin cooper who monitors activity around the tahoe area. i have a feeling that what we'll do is we're gonna see pre-pandemic volume or visitor volume in the lake tahoe basin not in the winter time, so that'll be good for everybody in and around the region taho is already kicking off november with this solid snowfall the national weather service predicts next week storm could dump up to four feet at the higher elevations cooper says an early snowfall means resorts may even open early historically thanksgiving is really been the kick off of the season, but after last year if we can open up just a few days early that will be absolutely absolutely fantastic. we're scares and riders it will also be great for the region which has been struggling with bosses from the pandemic last winter resorts played it safe with the reservation system, but this year cooper it's back to full operations his hope for this snow season is consistency.

redwood city. sheets were blocked off into early this morning as authorities cleared the scene. some people stop by today to leave flowers at the site to mourn the victims. the crash caused major damage to both cars and what vehicle even caught on fire a 17 year old driver and two passengers were in that car, but they have non-life threatening injuries. a preview now another change at twitter. the company is planned to launch an upgraded twitter blue program starting at 799 a month a product lead at twitter says the new blue plan isn't life just yet. but some users are getting notifications as part of a live test. it'll add the blue verification check mark and we'll give people access to premium features. it's still unclear though, whether currently verified twitter users will lose their check mark if they don't pay for the upgrade twitter began making mass layoffs yesterday, including 784 positions at its san francisco headquarters.

says really not mincing words got right to the point. she said both of their children's hospitals the one here in san francisco and the one in oakland are overflowing with sick children. this situation right now with rsv and other viruses respiratory viruses is basically our march 2020. this is our pandemic dr. jackie. grubb. phelan is division chief of pediatric emergency medicine at ucsf benioff children's hospitals overseeing both facilities in oakland and san francisco. we've had our highest volume days at oakland and san francisco. in any time that we've been recording in the past five years, she says rsv and other respiratory illnesses are hitting kids much harder than covid. our icus are at capacity. we have boarding. children in the emergency department that haven't even been sent up to the floor because all of the hospital beds have been taken and these

hospitals are relied on far beyond the borders of san francisco and oakland typically taking in countless transfers. we have not been able to take children who we normally take from outside into our intensive care units and into our acute care side of the hospital. we are very severely affected right now. ritz a solaris is the mother of three children all of them right in that risky age range for rsv and other respiratory illnesses. i don't want my kids to get it. it's scary. it's a it's another just thing that we have to keep our kids safe from i do worry that with the uptake across the country. they could get affected possibly hospitalized. we just try to be safe where the masks whenever possible watch our hands all of that and the doctor says parents also need to be on the lookout for symptoms of rsv. what parents can look for is increased work of breathing inability to take liquids not being able to urinate at least

congress. so california does have the ability to impact the house in these competitive districts, pol. itical mitchell is tracking roughly seven tight races through the central valley down into southern, california. that includes district 47 in orange county where democratic congresswoman katie porter who has gone viral for her use of a whiteboard during congressional hearings is at risk of losing her seat. there are a number that are real nailbiters those range also from being some that are democratic held and some that are republican help in each of these districts at play all across state is that there is a significant latino electorate. christian arana is the vice president of policy at the latino community foundation. he says latino voters could be critical in determining the outcome of these races and thus the future of the house my beatles in california could ultimately decide who is in the majority come january 2023 both arana and mitchell say this is most of races for 22 in the

well first a bump then a bite and then a desperate rush to get back to the shore. that's how a woman describes her frightening experience with a shark at a san diego beach on friday reporter laura acevedo. spoke with that swimmer. just hours after her swim ended in a shark bite off the coast of del mar lynn jutronich is ready to share her terrifying experience surprisingly. i'm feeling pretty good. i don't know if i just haven't processed everything yet. you tronage swam competitively in college and swims in the ocean two or three times a week friday morning. she and her swim partner were resting in the water before heading back to shore when something slammed into her. i felt a huge like a really hard hit. right. i don't know how to say that's like right between my legs and it pushed me. it hurt and it pushed me up and out of the water flynn says she immediately knew without a doubt. she was up against a shark.

i saw a clamp on my leg. so i don't know if i saw it. bite my leg or if i saw it after it bit my leg, but i definitely saw the mouth the mouth of one of the apex predators of the ocean. it was on my right my right leg. and it shook once kind of like a dog and then it let me go she then came up for air and told her swim partner what had just happened. i've just been bit. i've just been bit we've got to get into shore but her partner knew because he saw that something had gotten a hold of lynn. he said he saw the water agitate. he saw me kind of twist around and then he saw the fin in the back of the shark the pair swam back to shore where life guards and emergency crews rush limb to the hospital del. mar beach was closed and signs were posted to alert swimmers and surfers lynn admits. she's still a bit in shock, but even as she recovers she's using a little humor to help her heal. my friend did send me an article that said that i should buy a
