now open in northern california. moving forward finding solutions. this is abc 7 news me and another person ran out and got the second guy put them on the surfboard and drug them back in. tonight a sobering reminder of how quickly conditions can change that bystander rushing in to rescue two people caught in the surf at a local beach an important reminder for the storm's wrath. so let's take you live outside for a look at some of our cameras just spread across the bay area where you can see we are getting ready for a marathon of rain this week and already those pockets of rain and slick roads. good evening, and thank you for joining us. i'm dion limb. you're watching abc 7 news at 11:00 and right away. you can see live doppler 7 showing you an already active night of rain, and it's is falling hard in some spots bart is now reporting delays of 10

minutes system wide due to the wet weather. so let's bring in spencer christian for a closer. look at these storms ahead and talk about timing. okay, deon. well, you're right. it's quite wet already in some spots. here's live doppler 7 again. i'll show you where the studious way is falling right now up in the north bay. just moving out of northern sonoma county into northern napa county. you've got some pretty pretty good concentration rainfall there and an area of heavy rain moving on shore now in the santa cruz mountains now, let me give you a look at the storm impact scale our exclusive abc 7 storm impact scale through tuesday. your morning we expect rain overnight into tomorrow. there's some heavy rain tomorrow night into tuesday, which is election day. it's going to be raw and rainy on tuesday. here's the forecast animation at midnight. we'll have a wave of steady rain moving through the central part of the bay area, which is happening right now actually a little bit of a break just before the morning commute begins then pockets of rain throughout the day tomorrow and an area of heavier steady or widespread rain coming in tomorrow night continuing into tuesday and while that's happening here heavy snow will

be falling in the sierra. i'll give you a closer look at this and the seven day forecast a little bit later deon. all right spencer now that rain and those high winds are leading to a high surf advisory for bay area beaches that morning in effect starting tomorrow morning and tuesday abc 7 news reporter jr. stone spent the night along the coast to get an up close. look at the conditions. breezy chili and wet conditions here at ocean beach the high surf advisory goes into place monday at 10 am but this system has already been felt along the coast. an officer walking with a boogie board from the ocean at lindamar beach in pacifica after two people had to be rescued. i jumped in swam out there. by the time i got to one of the guys i noticed the other one was floating upside down nico. barrigan was able to help get one of the swimmers to shore as cpr was performed on that man, nico and others saw the second

swimmer struggling in the water. me and another person ran out and got the second guy put him on the surfboard and drug him back in authorities confirmed that one of the two men died. the other was rushed to the hospital and his condition is unknown the rescue comes on a sunday that saul reign in parts of the bay area and comes just a day before a high surf advisory goes into effect as more rain arrives. we talked with those out at san francisco's ocean beach sunday night who say they've already seen a change in the weather conditions. i actually went around to the the other beach over here and i couldn't come back because the waves are coming in so intensely. yeah the waves out there have been pretty gnarly when i saw the surfers out here earlier. there was quite a few of them out there and i just hope they're being safe because those waves are ripping pretty hard and waves that could break at 15 to 20 feet come monday. i did talk with those at pg&e who tell me they are prepared for this weather. they have new automated equipment to help them better

to sift through fact and fiction online between the social media feeds and suggested articles. there are some things to consider while making your vote abc 7 news reporter tara campbell is live for us in the newsroom with some red flag warnings to be mindful of especially this year tara. yeah dion with the election just days away social media feeds are getting flooded with all sorts of misinformation and disinformation and this afternoon. i spoke with the cybersecurity expert about what we should all be watching out for and what kind of impact this is having on voters. it's a phenomenon called the truth decay. that's what we are facing. now. ahmed bonava is a cybersecurity expert and engineering professor at san jose state university. he warns too much scrolling and not enough fact-checking is threatening the country's democracy and and we we bear some of the responsibility when it comes to to the misinformation, you know part of it and he says part of that

responsibility is of course check your sources and be on the lookout for those more manipulative posts any news or any picture or any video. know made you emotional pots wait because usually that's the main purpose for the misinformation disinformation is to talk to your emotions. do not do twitter. i have been against twitter the entire time and i feel like especially now we're going in a really bad direction. i just tried to like take the comments as people who have something to say and it's like a community and i happen to apply to elon musk for bringing free speech back to twitter the professor calling into questions some of elon musk moves since taking over twitter pointing to the plan to make the blue check verification available for $8 a month. well if everybody verified

nobody is very fine. that's the problem cnn reporting today musk is pulling back on the plan until after the midterm election, but still the professor worries what happens when these blue checks become too easy to access the system established to distinguish and to have people, you know, like the journalist that we know that they are from a respected place verification will be the last thing i'm gonna touch find that position because this is a feature that will give credibility to twitter all over the world. now this evening elon musk took to twitter putting the spotlight on accurate information musk writing twitter needs to become by far the most accurate source of information about the world. that is our mission. i guess we will wait in cd on how this all continues to play out. yeah the saga continues tara many. thanks. oh come this tuesday on election night. we will be live streaming all of the results as soon as the polls close for three hours straight.

candlelight vigil to celebrate her life on december 9th. they are requesting requesting privacy during this time. well, it was a day of energy and the ultimate test for thousands of runners and wheelchair athletes that streamed through all five boroughs of new york city, but tonight as abc news anchor lindsey davis reports a san francisco woman is proving the race is also the ultimate cause for hope 50,000 runners representing more than 125 countries all running the 26.2 mile route in today's new york marathon. each runner has a story like 44 year old maryam nagavi a corporate lawyer from san francisco. you treat running like a medicine house cell, but i was a second year associate at a law firm and i was working around the clock and i was eating really badly and i had really bad sciatic pain went to a couple of doctors. they said oh you need surgery and i said absolutely not and then i started, you know getting into running as a child growing up in iran running was something

maryam only dreamed of it was always. oh, no, you are not doing that because they would be ugly for for girl to do that. the transition has been fantastic for me from going to that girl. that was always forbidden to this 44 year old woman that is going running every day her mission to bring awareness to the plight of iranian women who don't have the opportunity to enjoy basic freedoms. this is a human rights issue. it should be a collective sadness on our human consciousness because to date 253 people have died most some whom they're women and children today maryam completed her 11th marathon crossing that finish line proudly draped in a flag. she designed a message to her homeland of iran and her own form of protest. what gives you hope every single day if you go out with your best intentions and you put put forward your best efforts things will change.

what an ultimate statement she's making amazing an amazing statement? yeah, you know i shifting gears. i love the fact that we have the live doppler 7 behind us because it's showing all the rain that's falling all across the bay area right now. i mean it basically is just green on green. that's right. it's going to make things greener. so let's take a look at what's going on with our lived up of seven. you can see we've got areas of fairly steady rainfall across most of the bay area right now. it's heavier in parts of the north bay and in the santa cruz mountains right now moving on shore and pushing out over the peninsula across the bay. here's a live view from their rooftop camera here at abc 7. looking at what pavement on the embarcadero currently temperatures are mainly in the mid 50s just about everywhere 55 50 60 degrees at san francisco oakland palo alto, san jose, santa clara and half moon bay another live view from emeryville. you can see the clouds out there and it looks to be a bit wet over to emeryville as well. it's wet all around the bay area right now and you can see temperature readings are in about a two degree range 54 to 50 60 degrees that santa rosa,

nevada napa fairfield conquer it and livermore one final live view from the exploratorium camera looking across the bay toward the bay bridge and you see to clouds above and these are our forecast headlines periods of rain will continue overnight and tomorrow a stronger storm swings through tomorrow night. tuesday and showers and light rain will continue and then taper off on wednesday. the current storm is a level one storm on the abc 7 exclusive storm impact scale into tuesday morning. we're expecting rain overnight tonight into tomorrow heavier rain tomorrow with that stronger wave that comes through tomorrow night and then raw and rainy weather on election day forecast animation starting at midnight shows a continuation of rainfall into the wee morning hours by the time this morning commute gets underway at 5:00 p.m. at 5 am of beg your partner. we'll have a little bit of a break in the rainfall. it's not going to dry out just to break in the rain. that'll be followed by periods of rain and showers throughout the day tomorrow then late tomorrow into tomorrow night. we expect the wave of steady

heavier more widespread rain swinging through tomorrow night into tuesday morning, and that'll be followed by periods of rain continuing overnight and even into wednesday. meanwhile, it's going to be snowing in the sierra. we have a winter storm warning and effect from 7pm tonight. that time now to 4 am wednesday heavy snow one to four feet of accumulation winds gusting up to 55 miles per hour even higher gusts in the ridges difficult to impossible travel in the sierra back here in the bay area again high surf advisor in effect from 10 am tomorrow to 10 am tuesday 15 to 20 foot breaking waves hazardous surf dangerous swimming and surfing conditions overnight lows as the rain continues mainly upper 40s highest tomorrow will range from mid-50s at the coast to upper 50s around the bay shoreline, so about 60 in the mildest inland locations. don't expect many locations tomorrow to reach above 60 degrees. here's the accuweather seven-day forecast. and as i mentioned it's going to be a raw and wet. windy election day on tuesday
