moving forward, finding solutions, this is abc 7 news. dan: good evening. ama: a few top stories we are following tonight, but first the next round of bay area wide storms starting to hit right now. dan: let's give you a live look from live doppler 7 and our cameras across the region. the storm has intensified quickly. ama: let's get right to sandhya patel following it all. sandhya: this is now a level two storm. take a look. tonight or tomorrow morning, brief downpours, thunderstorms, hail, gusty winds. we have already seen lightning strikes off the coast moving across parts of the monterey bay. i'm going to take you into where we are seeing moderate to heavier rainfall. heading across 101 right now. you will notice scattered rain showers from mission down to san bruno. as we go toward the santa cruz

mountains, we are seeing downpours in the region. a special marine morning has been issued as strong thunderstorms have been developing and moving on shore around their honore bay -- the monterey bay. it is capable of producing land , espia it is a moderate storm. as you take a look at the timing between midnight and tomorrow morning is when the most intense rain and wind will go through. downpours and gusty winds, it will be a hazardous commute. thunder and hail. it is already getting gusty. gusts to on mount diablo. dan: thank you. you can check the forecast and see live doppler 7 anytime you wish with the abc 7 bay area streaming app.

download the app now for roku, apple tv, amazon fire, and google tv. ama: now to the $2 billion powerball holdup. the drawing tripping up. if you were dreaming of winning the cash, you will have to wait a little bit longer. dan: lottery officials say the drawing had to be delayed because of security issues. ama: tim johns was tracking the news as it developed and he's here with the latest. tim: what can i say, the agonizing wait is going to continue. we are not a couple billion dollars richer as of right now. folks are in the bay area and around the country have been waiting for these numbers to be announced. state lottery officials need more time to complete security protocols. we don't know where the location is, but we know it is not in california. in a tweet, california lottery explained the powerball has

strict security requirements that each of the 40 jurisdictions have to meet. the drawing was live and about to announce the winning numbers, when they told audiences the delay on air. the price is a whopping $1.9 billion, the largest lottery prize ever. the odds of winning are pretty slim. experts say there in the range of about one in 292 million, but it hasn't stopped people from around the bay from catching lotto fever and rushing to buy the tickets earlier monday. >> all i need is one. i'll share it with everybody. [laughter] >> if god wants me to end, i will win with the numbers i've played with for years. >> i'm going to be a billionaire. people get a good look. this is your next billionaire of the state of california. tim: if you are that gentleman win, if you take the payment plans spaced out over 29 years,

you get the whole $1.9 billion. this isn't the first time the drawing has been unexpectedly delayed. there is no timeline of when the numbers might be drawn, so we will just have to stay tuned. when it does happen, security officials and independent auditors will be looking on. dan: all right, it is going to be so much sweeter when i when. you would think there would be some level of responsibility. but you see with the reaction is on the other side to this, to make a joke of it. really, that is traumatizing too. but nonetheless. j.r.: she also responded to questions about a possible retirement depending on how midterm elections play out. >> my decision will be affected by what happened in the last week or two. >> will it be impacted by the attack? >> it will. yes. j.r.: for the end of the interview, emotional moments. >> it is -- i've done very well, i've been close to tears and number of times in this conversation, i think i've done very well in containing that, but of course i'm sad because of my husband, but i'm also sad

because of our country, unless we can get over this. j.r.: during that interview, she said she does want a strong republican party, but one that does not yield to, in her words, a cult or a thug, seemingly in reference to former president donald trump and the extreme maggot portion of the geo -- maga portion of the gop. dan: we will move now to your voice and your vote. candidates are going all out hours to go before the polls open. ama: a handful of key races to determine the control of congress are in a dead heat going into election day. democratic senate nominee john fetterman's bid is one make or break race and polls show it is very close. fetterman's campaign has gone to a federal court to try to have mail-in ballots counted if they weren't signed with a valid date. >> i won my very first election

by one single vote and everyone that is willing to go out and knock on doors and get out the votes right now because there is so much at stake. >> how many of you think washington is getting it wrong? i think they're getting it wrong because of radical policies. part of what i want to bring to washington is balance. dan: other senate races still a tossup or georgia, nevada, arizona. during a gop senate rally in ohio, former president trump teased a very big announcement next tuesday at his mar-a-lago residence in florida. speculation is when he will announce his 2024 presidential run, perhaps next week. ama: tomorrow's election could be historic in more ways than one. there are a record 178 lgbtq+ candidates on the ballot running for office across the state. dan: that is more than any other
