the key results from last night. control of congress is still up in the air at this time, but republicans are favored to win the hounds. in california, governor newsom is predicted to win reelection. san francisco district attorney brooke jenkins is leading in that race. much more on all the races this morning. we want to check with drew. >> an isolated chance, nothing like yesterday. don't prepare for that messy commute. an isolated chance. it is along the coast. you can see one cell on the santa cruz mountains, another towards half moon bay. we have a chance of a shower toward 8:00 a.m. this morning, level 1 on the impact scale. after 8:00, the chances out -- that chance is out of here. topping out in the 50's in most cities. we will talk about a frost advisory later in a few minutes.

>> some too close to call races but that does not include our statewide propositions. jobina breaking those down. >> they are clear. we start with proposition one, which we knew would do well. even though abortion is legal in the state, what proposition one does is amend the constitution to protect it. this is the overall look at the state numbers. 65% yes. san francisco county with 88%. let's try one more. san mateo county, 77%. proposition 27. these two are linked. if we give you the state total, 70% no. i want to go to alameda county because that is where golden gate fields is. had this past, that would have been good news for them, allowing for gambling with gaming, and we know we have the

hand is in the lead now in the race for the next mayor of san jose. it is still too close to call. they are holding a narrow lead against santa clara county supervisor cindy chavez. he addressed the crowd at his watch party last night and says he's waiting for all the votes to be counted. no matter who wins, they will have to continue to work together, with one of them being mayor and the other remaining in their current position. he explained how the collaboration would look moving forward. >> after elections, elected officials have a responsibility for coming together, trying to understand what the electorate was telling them, working together to solve problems. i'm committed to finding the solutions we need. >> it is very easy to feel let down when things don't go exactly the way you wanted them to but the thing i know is that -- and i think this may be age,

rafael warnock. i am justin finch, abc news. >> new developments. former u.s. fighter -- former ufc fighter cain velasquez is free this morning, out on bail awaiting trial for attempted murder. gloria rodriguez with reaction. >> cain velasquez says he's ready to go home and see his family. the former ufc champion was released at midnight from the jail in santa clara county. velasquez was seen hugging the person said to pick him up. the judge determined the former ufc champion will stand trial for trying to kill a man accused of molesting his four-year-old son at a daycare center. velasquez was arrested on february 28. he says he's thankful to be out of jail after being in custody for eight months. >> ready to go home.

san franciscan that voted. thank you so much. you represent -- you represent that the tide has turned in san francisco, that we can be a democratic city, that we can be a liberal city, but stand for public safety. >> mayor london breed was at jenkins event. she says if it were not for bree's trust, she would not have been able to rebuild the d.a.'s office. the race for district attorney in alameda county making history no matter the result. it is between pamela price and terry wiley. wiley is leading with 52% of the vote. price is campaigning on progressive policies. she served as a civil-rights lawyer for decades. wiley is a 32 year veteran of the d.a.'s office now serving as chief deputy da. alameda county will be electing its first black district attorney either way. so many races still outstanding.

a couple days. there are 10 candidates. gloria rodriguez live in the newsroom. >> it might take a few days before we know the winter when it comes to the oakland mayor's race done by ranked choice voting. early results are in, but they are early. these numbers will only be people's first round votes and two front runners have emerged. oakland city councilmember loren taylor with about 34% of the vote now. taylor scored some key endorsements from libby schaaf and the mayors of san francisco and san jose. the vice mayor with 29%, a progressive endorsed by california attorney general -- by the california and big labor unions. some activists say that, whoever the next mayor is, uniting city

y -- city hall will be a challenge. >> it is just -- there is so much division. >> 10 candidates are running to take over. 100% of precincts are reporting but it may take a few days before the ranked choice votes are counted. now, it is just a waiting game. >> thank you. we want to take you back to the results of the propositions you voted on. jobina is here with three more. >> we are going to start with proposition 29 regarding the dialysis clinics. i know you saw those commercials over and over. it is projected to fail. this is the third time this proposition has been on the ballot, because check this out. these are the numbers from 2020, 63% no. you can even see 2018, 62% now.

we can also use something called our heat map, where we zoom into our region. it does tell a different story. very split for alameda county and completely different from the rest of san francisco county with 58% saying yes. back to our overall view. i want to talk about proposition 30. governor newsom was against proposition 30 even though he is pro electric cars, because this would have basically mean higher taxes for wealthy californians, and those extra tax dollars would have gone to get more electric cars on the road. so overall, the state said no, but san francisco county again very different from the state total. our last one we will talk about, proposition 31. this was projected to do well and it is projected to pass. it puts a ban on flavored tobacco products. look at how well it did in marin county, 80%.

san francisco county, 78%. it goes on and on. we have results to other propositions on our website. >> thank you. the balance of power in congress is still up in the air. republicans are favored to retake the house. democrats may win more seats than previously expected. abc news projects republicans have won 207 house seats. they need 218 to control. current house minority leader kevin mccarthy could become house speaker if the gop wins control. mccarthy remains confident about his party's future after election night. >> the american people are ready for a majority that will offer a new direction, that will put america back on track, republicans are ready to deliver it. it is a new direction towards an economy that is strong, where you can fill up your tank, feed your family, where your paychecks grow and not shrink. a new direction towards a nation

>> some historic victories across the country this morning. collects some really historic firsts. for luminary results are showing underrepresented groups are making strides this election season. president biden stayed up late last night calling some of the winners, including maxwell frost, the first generation z candidate to be elected to congress in florida. robert garcia is now the first openly lgbtq+ immigrant elected to congress. maura healey, massachusetts gubernatorial candidate, is now the first openly lesbian governor-elect in the u.s. in new hampshire, james rosener is now the first openly trans man elected to a state legislature in u.s. history.

given a tour of candidate wes moore will be the first black governor in maryland -- gubernatorial candidate wes moore will be the first black governor of maryland and only the third ever black governor in america. >> with so many votes still being counted, some of the top races are still in the air, but we are getting a clearer picture in other important races. >> please to be joined by josh kane, senior reporter at the examiner, with his take. i want to talk about someone who was not even on the ballot, mayor london breed. and yet she was on the ballot because it seems that every person that she decided to endorse won or is winning currently. >> yeah. good morning. it is a very astute observation that mayor breed had a great night. with all of her appointees, brooke jenkins, matt dorsey, school board members, even a college trustee, the mayor has pretty much run perfect when it

comes to appointees. i was asking her yesterday, do you think this will give you a mandate? she kind of brushed it off as this is just the will of the voters, but there's no doubt that mayor breed will be taking a lot of momentum from this and some of the ballot propositions. >> can i add one more thing about this? something that will not be a headline today probably, because the school board is not the biggest issue on this ballot, but there are three people that you could vote for on the san francisco ballot for school board. one of them actually said racist things about children within the san francisco schools and still appears to be winning on this ballot. that was one of mayor breed's appointees. what does that say? >> that would be the appointee you are mentioning. she had basically made comments that children of particular backgrounds, their parents are not as involved in their

education. far and wide, everybody realized that was an inappropriate statement. she apologized, said she was needing to do some more education on herself to better understand different cultures. you now, i don't think you can defend the statements in any way. i think, coming from the asian-american community in san francisco, the community had a huge role in the school board recalls from earlier this year, and so, when they -- when people went to cast their votes, sometimes people fell down into categorizing themselves through identity politics and i think she benefited from that. i don't know if that says anything about mayor breed because obviously mayor breed was very much not a fan of those comments and definitely condemned them. i think she also said that she thought that she deserved a chance to serve on the board and

show that's not really where her heart lies. >> let's talk about the race for district attorney. mayor breed appointed breaux jenkins to fill that position after the recall of the previous district attorney. then finding out she was indeed paid. are you surprised she is leading now and appears to be winning? >> i don't know if i would say i am surprised that brooke jenkins is in such a big lead, mainly because her challengers were not necessarily the best picks of the letter. they were just a couple of -- three individuals in total, but two both came out to run against brooke jenkins and neither of them were considered strong challengers. i think brooke's issues when it comes to the fact that she was not very transparent about getting paid by people associated with the recall.

also, there is the question about some records that she had sent out shortly before leaving the district attorney's office and whether that was a violation of law. so brooke -- da jenkins -- will have some issues on her hands. she is taking this tough on crime mantle up, but there's a question of whether or not she's always kind of playing it by the book. that was a question raised about her time as a prosecutor in the d.a.'s office. she has a mandate now based on the results we are seeing and will likely win, but that does not mean the scrutiny goes away or that it should. >> what happened with district six? you had matt dorsey versus honey mahogany. matt dorsey once again with the trend was being supported by mayor breed. honey mahogany has spent many years in the office she was trying to lead and it does not appear that it's close now.

>> now. that one was actually fairly surprising. we thought matt dorsey might win but it would be much closer. honey mahogany, a trans woman of color in the city who has been a long time social worker, business owner -- she was on rupaul's drag race and got attention from that and had some performances. i would say that honey really suffered from the fact of redistricting this spring taking out the tenderloin from district six. i think if those boundaries had stayed the same, the outcome could have been a lot different, but right now, it looks very clear that matt dorsey is going to get this victory, and that is a huge thing for mayor breed because matt dorsey has a previous experience in the police department as their head of communications and he's very

tight with police chief scott. he will have the ability to help get everyone on the same page when it comes to messaging. i wrote a story about matt dorsey and he's very keen on having a playbook on how to speak to the media and put out communications to residents. when it comes to getting the d.a., police chief and mayor's office on the same page, he will be integrally involved. >> josh kane. the headline again, mayor breed not on the ballot but also on the ballot. great analysis. thank you. >> i don't know how you do this every day. >> neither do we. >> a lot of hot water on your face when you first wake up to be honest. someone in the bay is now a millionaire. a ticket worth more than $1 million for the powerball jackpot was sold here. the ticket that matched five out of the six numbers was bought at 1001 castro street market.

we had a coastal shower around half moon bay this morning into the sierra. chain controls on 80 and 50. a winter storm warning still in effect. about an additional six inches of snow. over the past three days, we are likely looking at feet of fresh powder in the mountains. it is cold out. 30's and 40's. have several layers, the heavy jacket, maybe the gloves and scarf. later today, partly cloudy, upper 50's to lower 60's, below average for this time of year, and another cold night. clear skies. we are dropping into the 30's and 40's. a frost advisory in effect tonight. look at the areas it includes. much of the north, inland east bay, south bay. here is the forecast. we will find the a.m. chance of a shower along the coast. it is a sunny day after about 9 a.m. morning frost thursday.
