for this coming up winter. dan: other resorts are heavenly mountain, kirkwood mountain, and northstar california resort. we have a complete list of opening days on our website. ama: abc 7 is committed to building a better bay area. as we enter the holiday season, food banks are feeling the squeeze with demand rising due to the pandemic and inflation driving up food costs. ament adele custodio has a look at the resources and agencies across the south bay and how we can all help. reporter: high and the holiday season. >> this is a challenging time. we did a client survey. 60% of our clients reported having less than $250 in savings. reporter: tracy weatherby says food budgets are typically the first place people cut to make ends meet. food insecurity highlighted and heightened during the pandemic, a time when second harvest demand double to 500,000 people

each month. >> it went down to 400,000 people last year and we thought that was the new normal. with inflation and gap prices -- gas prices, we are up around 450,000 people every month. reporter: a real-time reflection. federal data shows grocery prices jumped 12.4% since the start of the year. with two weeks until thanksgiving, the count is on to make every dollar count. >> we are trying to alleviate a little bit of that during the holiday season. reporter: damone carter says the goal between thanksgiving and christmas it to distribute 18,500 food boxes. they are asking people to complete the holiday meal by donating. >> frozen chicken, hams, turkeys, canned goods, especially those with pop tops are very much in need during the holiday season. reporter: these organizations aren't immune to today's issues. gas to get the distributions,

the food itself. >> it's a heavy push for us but we have a lot of people behind us. reporter: a smaller operation in san jose's northside neighborhood. this pastor with lighthouse food rescue expects to help 1500 people for the thanksgiving holiday. an effort made possible through partnerships with grocers and other nonprofits. >> some may get big books of turkeys and some may get big bulks of mashed potatoes. it's like, one has one piece and one has the other. we have to come together in order to push out a good meal. reporter: abc7news. ama: east bay food banks feeling the impact of inflation and are in great need of donations. in the past year, the food bank of contra costa and solano has seen an increase of 100,000 people in need of food per month. many residents spent today

dropping off food donations. donations are a lifeline. they account for 70% of its giveaways. >> it's the perfect storm. donations are going down. the need is going up. many of our most popular programs are seeing a 50% increase in need. any donation really matters. reporter: if you can't donate food, they will take cash. the food banks say a $10 gift creates up to 20 meals. dan: three days after the election and several big races in the bay area are still undecided tonight. updated numbers came out earlier this evening in the contest to become the next mayor of san jose. matt may hand is ahead of cindy chavez. he has 51% of the vote. in the santa clara county sheriffs race, the numbers continue to show bob johnson ahead 51%. for the san francisco district attorney race, the city released the latest totals late this afternoon. brooke jenkins is in the lead with 47%.

there will be a runoff if no one hits 50%. as for oakland, we are expecting an update on the mayor's race on monday ama:. president biden will meet with the chinese president in indonesia monday for the annual summit of global leaders. this is the first time they will meet face-to-face since president biden took office. the president spoke at the cup 27 summit in egypt, focused on combating climate change. the u.s. will pledge millions of dollars to smaller countries to tackle climate issues. his mission is to globally cut down gas omissions by 2024. >> we have to make vital progress by the end of this decade. that's why the united states is rallying the world around climate game changers. ama: president biden highlighted u.s. efforts that support clean energy, urging other countries to do the same. he's heading to cambodia next before his final stop in indonesia. dan: the weight is finally over
