scattered showers in the north bay. temperatures in the 40's and low 50's. a bit of fog obscuring the lights of san francisco. any drizzle is out of here by 9:00 a.m. we will see a bright day today. into the afternoon, we will see that chance return for the north bay. we will time out the shower activity in a few minutes. liz: several big races in the bay area remain undecided. updated numbers came out this evening or last night in the contest to become the mayor of san jose. matt may hand is ahead of cindy chavez. in the santa clara county sheriff's race, bob jensen ahead 51 % to kevin johnson's 48%. the city released the latest totals for the district attorney's race. brooke jenkins is in the lead at 47%.

however, there will be a runoff if no one hits 50%. as for oakland, we are expecting an update on the mayor's race on monday. the control of congress is still undecided. in arizona and nevada, the ballot counting continued friday night with those senate races. a big one called in arizona. we are waiting to see what happens in nevada. there is a reaction from election officials on efforts to count the ballots. >> with votes still encountered in arizona, some voters are angry and suspicious that the results are not in. >> i don't know why every other state except a handful can count everything by now except arizona. >> kari lake, the republican candidate for governor, is now spreading vague conspiracy theories, accusing election officials of trying to slow roll the vote counting but of for no proof.

the u.s. is getting worse. that is the word from the cdc. the latest numbers show more than 3 million cases already across the country, with 23,000 hospitalizations and 1300 deaths. those numbers are nearly double from a week ago. the hospitalization rate this early in the season is the highest it's been in a decade, with flu season spiking faster and earlier than usual. so far, the south is reporting the most cases. >> here we are again thinking about and planning for a surge that will be really hard for us to absorb over the next couple of months. liz: the news comes as hospitals face an influx of pediatric patience battling rsv. bed occupancy is at 78%, the highest level nationwide in two. years covid cases are also on the rise. los angeles county public health director barbara farrar says two

emerging variants are threatening to fuel a winter and fall surge. average cases have been steadily increasing since the beginning of november. meantime, the swift downfall of the cryptocurrency company ftx has ensnared some big names and companies, including several in the bay area. this is a wild story. steph curry was an ambassador, san mateo native tom brady took part in this. ftx contracted a $17.5 million for the naming rights to memorial stadium. cal has not commented since yesterday's bankruptcy announcement. the miami heat had a naming rights deal with ftx but they did announce on friday that it will be looking for a new sponsor. ftx's founder, sam bankman-frie d, is also a bare area native -- a bay area native. people at twitter have had a to

harvest of silicon valley says food budgets are typically the first place people cut to make ends meet. food and security doubt highlighted and heightened during the pandemic, a time when second harvest assad demand double to 500,000 people each month. >> it went down to about 400,000 people last year and we thought that was maybe the new normal. but with inflation and gas prices and everything happening with the economy, we are now up around 450,000 people every month. amanda: a real-time reflection. federal data shows grocery prices have jumped 12.4% since the start of the year. with two weeks until thanksgiving, the countdown is on to make every dollar count. >> what we are trying to do is alleviate a little bit of that suffering during the holiday season. amanda: he says the goal between thanksgiving and christmas is to distribute 18,500 food boxes and they're asking people to donate. >> frozen chickens, hams,

thankful for. >> i have veterans that have lost their lives in vietnam and everywhere else. by saluting them and celebrating them, it makes us feel good because they sacrificed their lives for us. liz: people cheered and waved flags as veterans, current service members and city leaders made their way through downtown. ♪ the u.s. naval sea cadet corps band of the west performed the service song of each branch of the military. there is also a blue star wreath presentation and speeches from active service members as well as retired service members. the kristi yamaguchi holiday rink reopen friday night in san ramon. it is a holiday favorite. a ribbon-cutting ceremony kicked off the reopening. it will stay open for the next eight weeks.

a quarter-mile santa rosa. pretty cloudy conditions. here is live doppler 7. pockets of drizzle first thing this morning. it will press down into the peninsula from san mateo into redwood city. light showers south of palo alto this morning. there is the area of low pressure that is dragging a cold front through here later today. if that area of low pressure, when it moves through later this evening, that will supply the chance of scattered showers. on the storm impact scale, is a level one storm with drizzle, scattered showers this evening. later on this morning, we are seeing a lot of sunshine out there. it is a great start to the day. by the afternoon, clouds will increase in the north bay with those showers. if also part. you will find scattered drizzle as the sunsets.

musk, has sent in email to employees thanking them for working long hours. p invited his employees to survive last week's 50% reduction in workforce to visit him at the office. the social media giant then paused it's eight dollars blue subscription service and the move comes after people used the badge to impersonate brands and famous people. musk has told twitter employees to return to the office or quit and that could make a big difference for local businesses that count on that foot traffic. suzanne fong has a look at the possible impact on san francisco's market street. >> at twitter headquarters in downtown san francisco, on the very first floor is a store open to the public called the market. the owners chris foley. >> 6000 customers. >> pre-pandemic, 6000 customers a day, 50% of them were twitter employees. the market only sees 20% of their original shoppers.

chinese president xi jinping in bali for the annual summit of global leaders. the president spoke at the cop 27 summit in egypt focused on combating climate change. he announced the u.s. will pledge millions of dollars to smaller countries to tackle climate issues. his mission is to globally cut down gas emissions by 2024. pres. biden: we have to make vital progress by the end of this decade. that's why the united states is rallying the world around climate game changers. liz: joe biden will meet with xi jinping in indonesia on monday. this is the first face-to-face meeting between the two leaders since joe biden took office. it will be interesting to see what happens. . a new vision for bart could soon be on the way and the changes would include adding a and more late-night trance -- adding a new line and more late-night trains. whether that happens depends largely on the public's interest. zach fuentes spoke to bart

would look at adding a portion of the red line from richmond to daly city that will continue past 9:00 p.m. and also at a portion of the green mine from mayfair to daly city. >> that would be a big thing for folks that work swing shift. that's something we've seen during the pandemic, especially for folks going to downtown san francisco and downtown oakland. >> bart is still working to recover ridership following the pandemic. ridership is at 40% of pre-covid expectations. we asked, where would funding for any potential service expansions come from? bart says they are looking at different options but nothing has been finalized yet. >> a key part of getting that funding is having a clear roadmap and knowing what riders want us to do. this is an important step in that process. when we talk to lawmakers, they want to know that our riders are on board. . with this >> the public has until november 20 32 take the survey.

liz: welcome back. it is rainy in parts of the day but we have a really nice weekend. families and communities continue to struggle with food insecurity. the need for donations at local food banks is increasing. anser hassan tells us one bay area food drink has seen an increase of hundred thousand people per month -- food bank has seen an increase of 100,000 people per month. anser: gail came by with her two

sons. >> inflation is really high, the cost of food is really high. there's a lot of families in need. anser: these individual donations are crucial since they account for approximately 70% of the donations the food bank gets. this year, the need is even greater. >> it's really the perfect storm. donations are going down while the natives going up. many of our most popular programs are seeing in over 50% increase in need. anser: christina's director of communications at the food bank. they serve 275,000 people every month. that's an increase of hundred thousand people per month since last year. >> that's a huge number. anser: that includes a 50% increase in seniors and 25% increase in children who are in need of food. >> 25%, one fourth of the people that we serve our children. that to me is unacceptable. anser: which is also impacting

conditions after the morning drizzle reports. to the afternoon, we will start to see some clouds increase in the north bay pair showers around ukiah. as the system moves south, it really just falls apart. pockets of isolated showers at this point and then it sinks out and really falls apart. later on tonight, early tomorrow morning, we will clear out the skies and find some pretty chilly temperatures. rainfall estimates, not a lot of rainfall by any means, we are talking a couple hundredths of an inch. 61 in san rafael, 59 in the city, 60 in oakland, 61 in san jose, 62 in concord. we will get rid of cloud cover, any showers. after midnight, totally clear skies. chilly temperatures in the north bay overnight tonight.
