so sunday mixing with clouds, we see more sunshine midday but the afternoon we bring back cloud cover chance of showers temperatures maxing out in the 50s and 60s. >> days after election day and several races remain undecided. numbers came out earlier to become the next mayor of san jose. mahan is still ahead of chavez in a close race. he has 51%. ant the sheriff's race the latest numbers show bob johnson ahead to kevin jensen's 48%. and for the san francisco district attorney race the city released the latest totals late friday afternoon. brook jenkins in the lead. however there will be a runoff if no one hits 50%. as for oakland we're expecting an update on the mayor's race on

monday. now to the race for control of congress. democrat mark kelly is projected to win the senate race in arizona. it's a big win overnight for democrats who are just one seat away from keeping control of the u.s. senate. all eyes on nevada where the senate race is still too close to call. mark kelly a former astrou naught. beat republican candidate blake masters who was backed by former president trump. president joe biden reportedly called kelly to congratulate him. developing news on hurricane nicole. recorded a category 1 that hit the coast of florida. people are starting to work to clean up what they can after major flooding and widespread damage. >> along the east coast people cleaning up after the remnants of hurricane nicole. the storm causing tornado sirens to sound in richmond, virginia. >> oh, boy look right here at

putting together the war memorial. this was a physical monument dedicated to their sacrifice and loss that took place in korea. i can't tell you how appreciative the veterans were to see it, especially the korean war veterans. >> and like douglas macarthur said sold jerz fade away. but we're going to leave a mark about not being forgotten. >> that was cornell bernard reporting. in the meantime the holiday rink reopened friday night in san ramon a holiday favorite among residents. a ribbon cutting ceremony kicked off the reopening. general admission to the rink is $21. all proceeds will go towards the always dream program which is aimed to promote literacy for underserved children. the rink will be opened from

noon until 9:30 on weekdays and 10:00 to 9:30 p.m. on weekend. with this weekend's snow many resorts made the decision to open early. the resort fired off snow making guns for three days straight to make hundreds of snowboarders and skiers during the holiday weekend very happy. >> i'm feeling great. i'm excited. i've been waiting. snowboarding is a favorite part of winter and i've been waiting. and opening early that's the best thing to be expected for this coming up winter. >> other resorts opening this weekend are heavenly mountain, kirkwood, and north star california resort. we have a complete list of opening days on our website. it is so cool to see that. i know people are so excited and it's just so good after last winter where there wasn't that much snow to see it happening. >> the first big snowstorm of the season, yes. >> bring it on.

>> and that's what we saw last week. we had that storm tuesday and wednesday that brought feet of snow. we had that wet morning on tuesday. this morning we have drizzle but we have showers likely later on this afternoon. let's take you to the sierra snow pack. this is what it looked like. look at that void of any snow. we had barren landscape across our mountains. watch what happens this week. look at that fresh powder on our sliet image. some picked up five feet of snow. enjoy all that fresh powder. back here at home our abc 7 oakland airport camera. the tarmac's a bit wet. afternoon sunshine but it is chilly this morning. a few showers are possible, that is in the north bay. outside later today most remain dry and that dry weather really stretches on for much of next week. along with satellite really just

some patchy drizzle, nothing to uniform. we have fog, anywhere a quarter to zero miles visibility. if you're travelling 101. temperatures slowly climbing through the 40s but that cloud cover is slowing that warming process. along the satellite you can see that spin very nicely that's the area of low pressure that is moving our way and that will supply that chance of an afternoon/evening shower. on the storm impact scale the morning drizzle ending. but then tooevening a scattered shower is likely the best chance happening is in the north bay. 10:30 we have bright skies. looking nice over the next several hours. by 2:00, 3:00, more cloud cover into the north bay with showers that moves south as the evening wears on. those showers are really falling apart.

>> earlier in the show we showed you how communities in the south bay are dealing with food insecurity. with inflation the need for donations at local food banks is increasing. one food bank has seen an increase of 100,000 people per month since last year. >> veterans day proved to be a popular day to donate. >> inflation is really high the cost of food is high. a lot of families in need so we're trying to do what we can to help out other families.

>> these individual donations are crucial since they account for approximately 70% of the donations the food bank gets. and this year the need is even greater. >> it's really the perfect storm i think. donations are going down while the need is going up. many of our most popular programs are seeing an over 50% increase in need. so any donation really matters. >> the director of communications at the food bank says they serve 275,000 people every month. that's an increase of 100,000 people per month since last year. >> it's a huge number. >> she says that includes a 50% increase in seniors and 25% increase in children who are in need of food. >> what continues to shock me is that 25%, so one fourth of the people that we serve are children. and that to me is unseaaunaccep. >> part of the need is struggling through pandemic then came inflation. she says there's been a 30%

meet grace this video was taken shortly after she was born on october 30th. grace had trouble getting on her feet and mom tried to assist. after a little wobbling she was able to stand. there's no -- this is not a small bundle of joy, she was 5-9 and 127 pounds at birth. the birth only took 35 minutes. >> very sweet and mom clearly loving on little grace. >> final check we had that sun that is increasing as we speak warming us into the 40s and 50s. a live look, bright skies in the day for lunch things could change again clouds move back. bring the chance of the shower in. best chance in the north bay clouds clear out after midnight. a cold night on the way but tomorrow nothing but sunshine. >> thanks for joining us here.
