abc 7 news reporter on sir hassan spoke to a san jose resident who's ballot was found and that resident says he wants answers. as tens of thousands of ballots continue to be processed in santa clara county on saturday a few maybe missing certainly it showed half a dozen ballots and mine was very visible that and it was definitely my signature and lou whitkin who lives in san jose got a tip that his ballot was allegedly found with other male by a ravine your sugarloaf road off highway 17 in santa cruz county. the ballots were like christmas cards packages letters that i could see in the pictures. so it does appear that the ballots went missing while in the possession of the postal service shannon boucher has worked for the register our voters office for the past 27 years and says, she has never encountered a situation like this boucher believes up to two dozen ballots may have been found. i'm very concerned about this issue and i'm hoping for a quick

resolution and investigation by the postal service so we can determine what happened in an email to abc7 is the usps says this case is under investigation by the us postal inspection service. they will release more information when appropriate boucher says after the investigation county officials will have to decide if the ballots can still be accepted once we can get the ballot in our possession. we also are working with our county council determine in these unique circumstances what we can do with these ballots witkin and his wife whose ballot was all so found say they mailed their ballots last saturday. he doesn't suspect any foul play so far the candidates and propositions they voted for are winning. so he says if his ballot isn't counted he won't be upset, but he does want answers something unusual occurred and certainly i expect them to conduct investigation find out what

caused this and take corrective action in san jose on san jose abc 7 news, not only the latest election results in san cisco in the supervisors race gordon marr is pulling ahead for the first time matt dorsey's latest shrinking and now stands at about 10% he still ahead though prop d the measured of fast track affordable housing continues to lose votes prop m the new tax on vacant homes is gaining ground in the school board race and is still ahead of elite fisher by just under 2000 votes some 82,000 votes still need to be counted. democratic catherine cortez. masto has won her race for re-election to the senate in nevada. this victory means democrats will remain in control of the senate regardless of what happens in next month's runoff in georgia in 2016 cortez master became the first latina elected to the senate control of the house still remains undecided this morning. house speaker nancy pelosi will be one of the guests on abc's this week this morning.

she'll be discussing the midterm elections and likely also the attack on our husband paul pelosi. you can watch that full interview on this week with george stephanopoulos at eight this morning right here on abc 7 and this suspicious person did try to visit the man accused of attacking paul pelosi. he was turned away by san francisco county jail officials. the person requested a visit with david depapp on october 31st, the san francisco sheriff's office tells abc 7 that that person claimed to be an immigration employee and provided a business card that had no government official credentials the department of homeland security says to pap is a canadian national and was in the us. illegally. he may face deportation to pop is accused of breaking into house speaker nancy pelosi's home on october 28th and harming her husband with a hammer. and an interview only on seven armed robbers targeted two photographers at san francisco's palace of fine arts one victim from dallas told abc 7 news. anchor dion limb. he was shooting engagement

photos on wednesday. you can see he was attacked and pistol whipped right in front of the bride and groom. he wrestled his gear away from the suspects and said it was such a frightening experience that he'll never shoot at the popular tourist destination again, i was just here without i just write protect their client memories. the bride was crying all the time. meantime another photographer from the bay area says he witnessed another photographer being robbed at gunpoint the same day at the palace of fine arts here. you can see a suspect run away with a gear bag and both incidents have been reported to sfpd. a family in orinda is demanding changes be made to their street after a car plowed into their house and it's the second time. it's happened in two years abc 7 news reporter ryan curry spoke with a family who was no contemplating moving both exact times. just just straight up seth orvis walks us through the damage to get another crash into the lower

level of his house in july 2020 a drunk driver crashed into the downstairs office leaving tons of debris and months of repairs and now this week wife and kids were having dinner up in the kitchen up there and about seven o'clock. they heard what sounded like a bomb downstairs another crash. he says this one involved an uber eats driver who didn't possibly see the street well enough crashed into the same room as the first driver thankfully in both incidents. no one was hurt. she couldn't believe that another car could have possibly come inside the house again, and she came down here and there was a ford mustang in our office now, the family is demanding safety measures get put in place on his street his home in the orinda hills are full of narrow windy roads with little street lights and traffic signs and right in front of his house is a three-way intersection with just one stop sign that leads right into his driveway. they don't have to stop the speed limit is supposed to be 20 25. i know there's signs right down

the street that make them slow down to 15, but there's nothing here. we reached out to the city of orinda. we are waiting a reply orvis says if he doesn't see anything change on his street soon, he and his family will consider moving. there's gotta be something that's that's done here. i mean, my wife doesn't want to live it. we want to move because this is crazy orvis says it took seven months to repair the damage from the first crash and then a year later the second crash happened he fears if no safety improvements are made on his street. a third crash will happen. do we put a huge boulder do we put a gigantic tree? we're talking about gates. but i don't know. i don't know if that's going to deter any cars from coming here in orinda ryan curry abc 7 news. the head of us customs and border protection is out of a job this morning christopher magnus did not want to leave he was reportedly refusing to step down before president biden accepted his resignation yesterday magnus's departure is part of a larger shake-up expected at homeland security as it struggles to manage migrants

coming from a wider range of countries, including venezuela cuba and nicaragua magnus served in the job for less than a year before leading customs and border protection. he had a long police career that span nearly 40 years and he was richmond's police chief for 10 years now in ocean rescue in the north bay near muir beach where the coast guard saved seven people the coast guard says they received a call friday for help from the captain of a 28 foot boat. that was having mechanical problems and was taking on water helicopter and boat cruise headed out quickly to find them the coast guard shared with us these photos of this rescue and they were able to get everybody safely back to shore. and drew let's get a check outside the sun starting to come up now. yeah, we're gonna see a beautiful sunrise. let's look at this. look at the colors we have i mean not a cloud to be seen in the sky this morning and that leads i mean to a gorgeous sunday, but we do have some concerns along our coast with an active ocean current and a beach hazard statement starting shortly. we'll talk about the details what to expect today under sunday coming a few minutes.

community abc 7 news reporter cornell bernard reports from santa rosa. yeah three core. it wasn't really a competition but it kind of was maybe yeah this food drive in santa rosa was hosted by local veterans from every service branch the goal who could collect the most donations. no pressure here. everyone was playing favorites for good reason. i don't need to the army and honor my grandfather when he's open world war two, you know kind of a meaningful nod to to his service and his his time and contribution to the to the country. i wanted to come out just kind of show my daughter that we're out here in the community trying to help out people that serve our country, you know, sharon swanson brought food and a cash donation match by her employer 250 dollar check turns into a fight so much.

thank you. it is needed an appreciated santa rosa city councilmember natalie rogers has relatives in all the military we read for food. so this was a way to show people that yes, the veterans helped to serve our country, but they also come back and they continue to serve our country. we want to be a part of ending. the hunger issue in america. why not starting your backyard every branch of the service represented here. yes even space force. they could use a few more donations, but you know, all the food is going to the very same place at a time when it's needed most the redwood empire food bank is benefiting from the donations inflation is making it tough for a record number of families this season. we saw a 38,000 families come to us just in the month of october, which is i mean before the pandemic we were looking at 17,000 families, i have been at

the end of the day the marines net at the most donations with the army close behind a friendly rivalry, but this holiday seems everyone was the winner here in santa rosa cornell bernard abc 7 news. government buildings across sonoma county were lit up saturday night in green to honor veterans the veterans memorial auditorium in santa rosa is among those that took part in operation green light. it's a public awareness campaign over observing national veterans awareness week, all the buildings will stay green until monday. san jose mayor sam licardo joined us leaders at this year's cop 27 summit in egypt focus on combating climate change. the mayor was part of the local governments for sustainability delegation. so these are responsible for more than 70% of global co2 emissions the delegation called for a renewed commitment to reduce greenhouse gases dramatically by 2030. i spoke with mayor licardo all the way from egypt. he said we can learn a lot from other cities and countries.

example an oslo where norway is seeing 75 80% of its vehicle fleets being sold every year are now electric that's tremendous and obviously we want to be there and we think we can get there in four or five years based on where we're at today in san jose. he says this year 30% of new car registrations in san jose were electric. he aims for that to be at 90% by 2030. the city currently has 95% greenhouse gas free power and it also requires all new construction to be electric by 2030. san francisco zoo and gardens is honoring its new three year old male komodo dragon in a two-month celebration tales of the komodo dragon. they partnered with nonprofit first five for a komodo carnival on saturday to kick it off the event featured games a climbing wall prizes and a new campaign dragon song that helps young children cope with stress the zoo's dragon exhibit highlights the komodo crossing habitat

castillo is learning the plans now being made all because of the community's persistence. real shout out to those in the community that have rallied around her residents living in san jose's willow glen neighborhood have spent months documenting the movements of this coyote more recently. there's been increased demand for city and state agencies to act and get it help my wife pointed out that there was a look to be a dog and it was pretty mangy looking and they're like, no that's not a dog. that's a coyote the city's animal care and services division says they've taken dozens of calls on the coyote since september with their officers responding at least five times. however, director jay toronto explains immediate action is typically only taken if an animal is injured aggressive or is a threat to public safety since the coyote didn't fit that criteria. it's roamed free. what are your options at that point? and so that that is the reason why this situation is currently being evaluated by you know,

multiple organizations that includes the state's department of fish and wildlife ken paulia with the department noting now the animal to have a leg injury and most likely mange in the days ahead. he says a small crew of biologists wildlife officers and animal control will be responding. we're trying to figure out a plan to save safely capture this coyote take it to a permitted wildlife rehabilitation facility and to treat it and then hopefully release it back into the wild but the upcoming care doesn't come without critique rebecca dimitrick with the non-profit wildlife emergency services says agency should have acted sooner. i think, you know a couple months since this animal has been out there that they've been aware of it fish and wildlife crediting the community's persistence reassuring the agency cares and is doing what it can we're balancing out with our kind of main priority, which is you know, keeping wildlife wild protecting the public

disaster in dallas two historic planes collided in the air is thousands of horrified spectators watch from the ground and now we're learning about the death toll officials. say six people were killed killed abc news reporter mariel verolla as the latest. this morning new details of the harrowing mid-air crash at a dallas air show after two planes collided falling from the sky landing on highway 67 and bursting in a flames. we the faa and ntsb now investigating what went wrong at the wings over dallas event a show featuring commemorative air force planes spectators at the airport and nearby capturing the crash between the boeing b-17 flying fortress and a bell p63 king. cobra the b17 normally has a

crew of four to five that was what was on the aircraft and the p63 is a single piloted fighter type aircraft this is the seventh year this event has been held in dallas without any issues until now hank coats is the ceo of the commemorative air force. this is a war two flight demonstration type air show where we highlight the aircraft and their capabilities and what actually happened in world war two. it's very patriotic. the maneuvers that they were going through were not dynamic at all. it was what we call bombers on parade organizers estimate between 4 and 6,000 people were around when the collision occurred but say no bystanders were injured what struck me was how strange it. was that the pilot of the fighter dove in the way that that indicated. he didn't think anybody else was around the ntsp has an awful lot of questions. why did the pilots of these various airplanes not know where each other were who was in the wrong place?

and that was abc's maria villarreal reporting dallas county judge clay jenkins tweeted out the death toll this morning saying the dallas county medical examiner confirmed six people have died investigators are working to identify those victims. very sad situation. will keep you posted. all right meantime, tesla has just issued a voluntary recall and more than 40,000 of its cars over a power steering issue model s and model x cars built between 2017 and 2021 are being recalled people have reported. losing their steering on bumpy roads or after hitting potholes the fix for this issue is an over-the-air software update sent to all affected vehicles from the company. tessa says the update has been sent out successfully at last check. no injuries have been reported in connection with the recall. happening tomorrow nearly 50,000 university of california workers are planning to walk off the job. this includes researchers postdoctoral scholars teaching assistants and graders at all of

uc's 10 campuses one person on the bargaining team says some workers are making as little as $24,000 a year. they're struggling to afford housing and they want better pay child care and other benefits uc says it is bargained in good faith throughout the negotiations process if both sides cannot come to an agreement tomorrow strike could shut down some classes and labs just weeks ahead of final exams in december. new details on san francisco's long-awaited central subway. well, it's almost ready to go. testing is underway this week. it starts today and it goes through thursday. the sfmta says you will see out of service trains running near fourth and brannon. it's doing a run-through of its service plan and infrastructure to make sure everything is working properly the 1.6 billion dollar project stretches 1.7 miles. it will connect san francisco's downtown areas to chinatown through four stations. we can only service starts next saturday, november 19th before full services begin on january 7th. happening today in the east bay
