moving forward finding solutions. this is abc 7 news. a noise, that's all too common in the bay area but police in this city say it's one of the largest they've seen good evening and thank you for joining us. i'm dionne lim. you're watching abc 7 news at 11:00. besideshows hit multiple parts of san jose until police suddenly crowd the action at its end more than 700 citations were handed out abc 7 news reporter jr. stone is hearing how neighbors might respond. drone video showing cars unable to move after police surrounded a weekend sideshow in san jose officers closed the roads boxed suspected participants and

spectators in then gave citations to those there things about time for something to finally happen neighbors like april bringus heard the sideshow near monterey highway and branham lane. we were up in the room watching tv, and we just started hearing the tire screeching for the whole time. just non-stop, san jose police say sideshow activity was reported throughout the city saturday night into sunday morning. they went to work though detaining approximately 500 vehicles in this area citing 720 people. fantastic. applause applies to the san jose pd. i'm glad the san jose police department did something 19 vehicles were impounded officers say well likely cost those vehicle owners between three and $4,000 because of that officers tell us that 82 juvenile contact reports were made a ghost gun was also recovered in an area near the sideshow the same spot

where someone reported being carjacked to police. it's just frustrating because not not only is it the noise, but then the safety because you know like i have kids in the house and there have been times like they've shot guns in the air and they've done you know, and it's just not. doesn't make you feel safe and comfortable in your own home. this is not the first time san jose police gave out citations in a situation like this, but it appears to be one of the biggest sideshow bus. they've made if it does prevent it from happening again or it slows down then absolutely. yeah. i think it's a step in the right direction. well neighbors you heard from there are happy about the citations given they've been upset prior to this time two of the three families that i spoke with are thinking of moving out of san jose and say side shows are one of the main reasons why jr. stone abc 7 news in an interview, you'll hear only on seven in the east bay shocking video at a local thai restaurant caught on camera and the good samaritans who jumped into help one of the owners of this family

business who requested we keep the restaurants name private shared the surveillance video from the dinner rush last wednesday according to the owner the customer you see at the bottom of your screen asked for free food when he was told. no the owners nephew went over to see what was wrong. that's when the customer went on the attack hitting him and punching him even knocking over a table. this is the the first time that we've seen these days incident, you know, it was quite short and everybody was so scared. the owner i spoke with sarah told me the man claimed he was upset over a recent death in the family, but the chaos caused some other diners to run and hide in the restroom and kitchen two diners did help hold the customer down before berkeley police arrived a short time later. if that day nobody was doing anything then the man could get away. yeah, really, really appreciate it for being our custom and being a you know, who's married and yeah, thank goodness. they were there berkeley police

one-on-one with abc news is george stephanopoulos house speaker nancy pelosi said her husband paul continues to improve following the attack on him two weeks ago at their san francisco home. he's improving. he'll take a little while, but we've been so comforted by the outpouring of so many prayers and good wishes and even people saying i wasn't going to vote, but now i'm going to vote because this has gone too far during her interview on this week speaker pelosi was not only optimistic about her husband's recovery, but the future of congress she celebrated the democrats better than expected midterm results. i'm very proud of our candidates and they knew the value of a woman's right to choose. they knew how important it was to protect our democracy. they knew the contrast between themselves and their opponents and that is what made them win on saturday night, nevada. senator catherine cortez. masto won her re-election securing democrats will retain control of the us senate. the future of the house is still

bay area moving forward finding solutions. this is abc 7 news. tonight the ntsb is sending a go team to dallas texas to investigate the cause of that debt tragic deadly mid-air crash the two planes that collided yesterday were part of the wings over dallas air show abc news reporter rhiannon alley with the investigation that had people from the ground grasping for answers. the national transportation safety board is in texas tonight trying to determine what caused two historic planes to crash killing six people on board at an airshow in dallas. the boeing b-17 fortress and bell p63 king cobra fighter were part of the commemorative air force when they collided midair and crashed to the ground saturday afternoon at the wings over dallas air show dramatic video showing the planes flying over a highway just moments

before impact debris raining down on the cars below. five crew members of the b-17 and the pilot of the p-63 were fatally injured the event was scheduled to commemorate the veterans day holiday. this is a war two flight demonstration type air show where we highlight the aircraft and their capabilities and what actually happened in world war two. it's very patriotic. the end radar to pinpoint the point of collision. they're also looking into the training records of the pilots involved as well as the maintenance of the aircraft one of the things we would probably most likely be trying to determine is why those aircraft for a coal altitude in the same airspace at the same time organizers estimate there were between four and 6,000 people on the ground in the area when the collision occurred. none of the bystanders were injured never seen anything like this. something i never wanted to see this was the seventh year. this event has been held in dallas. there were never any issues

until saturday very seldom. does anything tragic happen, but there is a height of possibility when you have a lot of airplanes flying a close proximity the ntsb says the planes were not required to have flight data recorders or cockpit voice recorders commonly known as black boxes as the investigation continues. they are asking witnesses to submit any videos. they have of the tragedy rhiannon alley abc news, new york. now here in the bay area a small plane made a crash landing in san jose this afternoon. it all happened at the reed hillview airport at about 3:30. the federal aviation administration says a single-engine, cessna 152 came down hard hard on the airport runway. fixed-wing planes nose gear collapsed after it landed it flipped up with the tail in the air only the pilot was on board. there are no reports of injury and the faa is investigating. two developing news now a 19 year old woman is in custody tonight following a shooting at

a rohnert park sandwich shop police were called to sourdough and co on commercial boulevard just before six this evening. they found a 16 year old woman suffering from a gunshot wound inside the shop. the victim is being treated for injuries at an area hospital investigators detained in 19 year old employee who fled the scene on foot. they are now trying to figure out if there's a connection between the women. right now our detectives are on scene and they're still investigating. what type of relationship if any there is between the victim and the suspect. police recovered a gun at the scene officers say one shot was fired. no one else was injured in that shooting. happening tomorrow a statewide strike as nearly 50,000 university of california academic workers are set to walk off the job abc 7 news reporter cornell bernard explains the tense impacts only weeks ahead of final exams. i am going to be on the ticket line first thing tomorrow morning post doctor at scholar

margo bezroutzic says banners are being painted and picket signs are ready for a strike on monday. i have never felt solidarity like this in my entire life. 48,000 university of california academic workers from researchers to teaching assistants are planning to strike at uc's 10 campuses after contract talks failed to reach an agreement over the past year union members represented by the united auto workers. say wages are a key part of the dispute some university employees make less than 24,000 a year if people are struggling to make ends meet and struggling to find housing this implies that they won't be able to focus on delivering good education for our students on its website university officials. say you see continues to negotiate in good faith with the union committed to finding solutions to outstanding issues. you see berkeley says they're preparing for a strike but expect few disruptions saying the camp anticipates that classes will remain as scheduled offices will be open and the

campus will provide normal or equivalent services but students say many classes have already been canceled or rescheduled. i don't know what to expect half of them said that they don't know even if we're going to have classes. pretty much all of my discussion sections that are led by the graduate student instructors are getting canceled for the week because they're going on strike, but with final exams just weeks away. there is concern the last for a while then it could be very disruptive. i do expect that it's going on strike is going to disrupt university activities that is part of the goal of the strike now, it's unclear. how long a strike could last the union says a bargaining session has been happening all weekend down at uc irvine, but so far no agreement at uc berkeley cornell bernard abc 7 news. also tomorrow students and teachers at san martin elementary school in south san francisco. will hold a ruby bridges walk to school day bridges was the first african-american student to integrate into an all-white school in new orleans in 1960

the annual tradition began at san martin in 2018 when students wanted to commemorate bridges for her bravery and strength the annual walk is celebrated each year on november 14th in a total of 36 states. well tonight current and former police officers of the san francisco police department held a memorial in remembrance of a fallen officer. officer james gelf died in the line of duty when he was shot and killed by a carjacking suspect back in 1994. tonight's memorial was held at the scene of the tragic incident on franklin and pine streets. gels served the san francisco police department for a decade today faith at baptist church and city leaders introduced a climate resilience hub to serve underserved communities in east oakland the hub is a place for community members to gather during wildfires heat waves and other natural emergencies. it'll provide access to clean air electricity air conditioning

weekend of the 2022 ski season in the sierra saw some big excitement. you're taking a live look along i-80 at donner lake after skiers and snowboarders spent today making their way back home now the uc berkeley central sierra snow lab at soda springs shared this photo from earlier today. look at all that white stuff the snow allowed heavenly mountain resort north star and kirkwood mountain resort to open yesterday ahead of schedule boreal mountain resort open friday. skiers could not wait to start the season. yeah. i came all the way from pittsburgh, pennsylvania to be

out here today. i love skiing. i've only skied the east coast ski, the east is a big thing. so i had to try you know, the west coast i hate every day last year. i did not miss one day. impressive several feet of fresh powder fell last week during a storm that began on tuesday. i mean, come on coming all the way from pittsburgh. i know, you know, i hate to be a debbie downer or forecast frowner, but enjoy that snow now because if we don't get some more rain storms here soon, there won't be any more significant snow there anytime soon either. i think those skiers are soaking it all in. yeah. it's looking good right now. there's a look at what's happening here in the bay area overnight clear skies, and it's going to be quite chilly too cold in our interior valleys of the low temperatures there dropping as low as 33 degrees in places like santa rosa and lakeport at 37 at livermore and concrete so pretty chilly overnight. we also have a beach hazard statement in effect until 10 am we have elevated wave heights and rough surf so bear that in mind if you're going to be down near the coastline then tomorrow
