morning we have these chilly temperatures first thing along with those chili temperatures. you also have clear skies live. look, this is sutro tower city is sparkling good all the way over to the east bay hills this morning and here's how the day shapes up. we're expecting a lot of sunshine from start to finish. chilly this morning sunshine will be effective doing its job will bounce back while max out in the upper 50s to lower 60s, but we do have a beach hazard statement in effect along our coastline this morning. we'll talk much more about our active ocean current coming up and just a few minutes reggie. thank you. very new this morning a huge fire in vallejo overnight after suv crash into this building. this happened on sacramento street witnesses. say they heard the crash and then saw the building engulfed in flames with the suv inside. it's not clear what happened to the driver, but it does appear this building was vacant happening today nearly 50,000 university of california workers are planning to walk off the job abc 7 news reporter elena howland is live at uc berkeley with the details of how this will impact students and this is

happening right before final exams, lena. hi there. that's right. we are at the uc berkeley campus right now. this is one of 10 uc campuses across the state where campus staff plan to walk off the job this morning all over a wage dispute. so we have learned that makes up a little less than 50,000 university of california academic workers across the state from researchers to teaching assistance. this comes after contract talks failed to reach an agreement over the past year union members represented by the united auto workers. say wages are a key part of the dispute some university employees make a less than 24,000 a year. keep in mind. today's strike could shut down some classes and labs only weeks ahead of final exams. do expect that it's going on strike is going to disrupt university activities that is part of the goal of the strike.

on its website university officials say you see continues to negotiate in good faith with union committed to finding solutions to outstanding issues uc berkeley officials say they are preparing for a strike but expects few disruptions, the campus anticipates that classes will remain as scheduled offices will be open and the campus will provide normal or equivalent services that we have also learned that a union rally will be happening this morning at 11:30. that's gonna be happening at sproul plaza right here on the uc berkeley campus live in berkeley, lena howland abc 7 news. thank you, lena your voice your vote after declaring an early victory in the san francisco diaz race, brooke. jenkins is now officially remaining in office after the latest update jenkins had 54% of the votes compared to former police commissioner. john hamasaki a majority is needed to win. jenkins was first appointed by the sda by america london breed in july.

called chester boudin jenkins won out complete proving's term through january of 2025. results are said to be released today in the race for san jose. mayor sidney chavez is chipping away at the razor-thin lead currently held by matt mahan that is with 73% of the votes counted. we are also expecting a new round of results this afternoon and the race for mayor of oakland this morning democrats are celebrating a win in the midterm elections. they will retain control of the senate next year after wins in nevada and arizona over the weekend. jovina as for the house that is still too close to call and some republicans are starting to blame a former president trump. yes, reggie 18 house races are still undecided this morning nearly one week after the election republicans need just seven wins to take control. the democrats are still feeling optimistic and there's turmoil within the republican party. as former. president. trump is expected to announce a run for real election in 2024 tomorrow summer blaming him for the party's performance in the midterms and voice and concern over his influence.

good morning kumasi these side shows have been frustrating for many who live in san jose two or three families even telling abc 7. they were considering moving out of the city partly because of these side shows this weekend police citing 720 people and detaining 500 vehicles check out this drone footage of cars unable to move after police surrounded a weekend sideshow in san jose officers closing the roads boxing in those watching and those involved and then giving out citations san jose police say sideshow activity was reported throughout the city saturday night into sunday morning. is like april bringes heard the sideshow near monterey highway and branham lane. we were up in the room watching tv and we just started hearing the tires screeching for the whole time. just non-stop about time for something to finally happen. 19 vehicles were impounded officers say it'll likely cost those vehicle owners between

we have developing news this morning. there has been a deadly shooting at the university of virginia in charlottesville and police say a student is the gunman the shooting happened last night. you're a campus parking garage three people were killed two other people were hurt after the shooting police. say the suspect took off in a black suv and he is considered to be armed and dangerous all the classes at the university have been canceled for today.

this is the the first time that we've seen these days incident, you know, it was quite short and everybody was so scared. the owner tells abc 7 news a man claimed he was upset over a recent death in his family, but all of this chaos caused some of the other customers to run and hide inside the restroom in the kitchen two diners helped hold down the customer before police got there a short time later. if that day nobody was doing anything then the man could get away. yeah, really, really appreciate it for being our custom and being a you know, good night and berkeley police confirmed the customer was arrested for felony assault. happening today a former san francisco police sergeant will be sentenced for robbing a drugstore. evan cole pleaded no contest to two felony counts after he was arrested last november prosecutors. say cole was armed with a gun when he robbed a san mateo rite aid demanding norco painkillers from a pharmacist. he was off duty at the time cole

was placed on unpaid leave after his arrest but has since retired he faces four years in prison what trouble at twitter employees for meals that were previously provided for free must tweeted the food service cost about 13 million dollars a year at the san francisco headquarters. according to business insider a former employee. who said she ran the lunch program said that the meals cost about 20 to 25 dollars a day per person. this is coming after more than 44,000 contract employees reportedly lost their jobs over the weekend. they lost access to the company systems saturday night. they got emails hours later informing them that they've been laid off earlier this month the company laid off half of its staff in an effort to become profitable. new developments federal prosecutors are asking for a 15-year sentence for elizabeth holmes. the former therino ceo is set to appear for sentencing on friday
