key races in california abc 7 news anchorless creates is here with a look at where things stand liz. hi guys. yeah right now abc news is projection that democrats have 206 house seats republicans have 212 they're just six seats away from that magic number 218 that they need for control of the house the path for democrats to win does seem to have narrowed. but if they do it's likely to come down to races here in california. with the race for control of the house of representatives now down to the wire all eyes are looking towards california across the state nearly 4 million ballots from the midterm election still need to be counted those votes critical and house races that are still too close to call. there are probably five seats in california that election watchers across the country are looking at to see whe cthan hapn california that will help democrats maintain the majority in the house the mitchell says he's watching most.

close solace and district 41 in riverside county between republican incumbent ken calvert and democrat. will rollins for the first time that district now includes left-leaning palm springs, which has made it harder for calvert who campaigned against gay marriage in california to keep his seat. even as this race is titan. it's still a race that's within a couple percentage points in all of these. republicans are currently in the lead and mitchell says the latest batch of ballots show the path for democrats to overcome. those leads is becoming narrower. ultimately mitchell predicts. democrats won't pick up any new seats, but holding all the seats in california is somewhat of a victory for democrats, even if republicans hold the house as it currently looks like they will it will be the difference between them having maybe a three seat majority or four seat majority or five seat majority. which for kevin mccarthy can be a very big issue if republicans

today thursday night was the last tally as election workers got the day off friday for veterans day. i thought the team probably deserved a break a recharge and we pushed through this weekend. to get as much of the vote by mail ready to scan through our scanners today and this week turnout in, alameda county. hit in the registrar said it's the vast number of vote by mail ballots that's slowing down the counting to put this in perspective. we have 930,000 voters in alameda county and only 30,000 of the votes that we've received were in person votes that's over. 400 dropped off in the other half hand delivered on election day validating signatures is the challenge there were hopes of counting up to 40,000 additional

points the nasdaq lost 127 the s&p went down 35 and in the past few weeks there have been thousands of layoffs at big tech companies and this week even more are expected abc 7 news reporter loose peña has been covering tech layoffs and has the latest on what this means for silicon valley specifically and the economy as a whole loose. yes, danny seems like new week new tech layoffs. amazon's layoffs are set to impact 3% of corporate employees. these cuts would be the largest in the company's history. i spoke to an expert who explained why we have to keep a close eye on these layoffs. the wave of tech layoffs continues up next amazon planning to lay off approximately 10,000 employees according to the new york times. we haven't seen these kinds of trend simultaneously maybe ever certainly not in the last 20-25 years. it's not easy to pin, you know the explanation for particular problems on anyone thing.

we've been through pandemic. there's global inflation. there's a war in ukraine and and energy disruptions in the last couple of weeks twitter laid off approximately half of its workforce meta more than 11,000 employees and now amazon are these additional signs of a possible recession recessions happen because lots of people look to read tea leaves and make decisions based on what they expect to happen. so that's not to say that there can't be a connection a causal connection between what tech companies are doing today and what the rest of the economy might be doing in six months, but is there a determinative unavoidable relationship there is not i are these companies laying off employees back to back professor posner believes. these companies could be watching what each other are doing and following the trend some of these firms are kind of taking the opportunity to lay off employees because others are already doing it. these layoffs are also creating what psychologists call survivor skilled for those who kept their

yeah, dan, and alma definitely was chilly this morning, especially in our inland valleys take a look at the literatures, these are the official lows santa rosa down to freezing fairfield below that at 30 degrees 33 in livermore and it dropped down to 35 degrees in concord and gilroy. i do have some good news. it's not gonna be quite as cold because of the setup that we have here area of low pressures spinning here over the northern and central portion of the state we have high pressure blocking any storms from getting here, but the downsloping wind offshore wind will help to hold the temperatures up a little bit that offshore wind. unfortunately bringing higher fire danger in southern california. they're looking at critical fire conditions los angeles ventura counties for wednesday high wind warning until wednesday night for parts of southern california there and wind advisory on the eastern side through wednesday night, so they're going to be looking at gusty winds and any fires that develop would rapidly

spread down there for us. the good news is the recent rain actually added enough moisture to the patient to where our fire danger is lessened so we will see those offshore winds developing overnight tonight going into tomorrow afternoon 20 to 25 miles an hour. the strongest winds will be in the hills as you will notice and then as we had towards tomorrow night still breezy in the hills, but that'll help to hold some of the temperatures up a little bit tonight. and so tomorrow morning even though there will be chilly spots with frost not as cold as this morning from our san jose camera. you're looking at a beautiful view of the shark tank. it is in the mid 50s right now in francisco oakland palo alto low 50s 56 degrees in san jose from our abc 7 oakland airport camera, look at this gorgeous view as we look back towards san francisco right now. it is 50 in santa rosa chile in fairfield 45 degrees concord 53 east bay hills camera looking all the way across the bay here visibility is good breezy to gusty overnight strongest in the hills. mainly clear and chile with areas of frost in the morning

area moving forward finding solutions. this is c7 news this is unbelievable more than 700 people cited by police during a san jose sideshow and tonight investigators are speaking out for the first time about how they shut it down abc 7 news reporter zach fuentes as the story. this intersection at monterey road in branham lane. and san jose is a moderately busy one with a library on one corner and apartment complexes on the other ones. it looks calm this monday, but on saturday night, it was a site of a massive weekend side show. these sideshows are absolutely an epidemic within our communities regionally and locally on saturday, san jose police say they put a stop to this one made up of hundreds of cars. we were able to successively employ a tactic that we have developed where we essentially block them in that required over a hundred officers sergeants in lieutenants. police say they blocked in over

500 vehicles and issued over 720 citations. 82 of them were juvenile citations. they impounded 19 vehicles that were left at the scene two were stolen and we'll be released to their owners the cost for the owners of the 17 other cars to be taken out of impound could be between three to four thousand dollars renee. karimian is the father of a six and nine year old he shot video as police blocked the cars in he tells us that when spectators started running some ran into his apartment complex. they knocked the bombay one the residence door. are running away. he says he's called the cops multiple times over the years to report side shows and says he's glad that the police tactic worked. i live in here for seven years. i never saw this before. so this time looks like they've been serious. hopefully they continue this. say they have to and will continue their efforts to enforce the law and help keep neighbors like kareemian and his family safe. these are not young kids. just coming out to have fun with vehicles and show their cars off. these are extremely violent

events the violence that that accompanies these sideshows includes assaults stabbings shootings. salts on officers despite the success of the police operation. kareemian says he's still questions keeping his family in their current home. i'm not feeling safe here. that's that's not the right and san jose zach fuentes abc 7 news. investigators blame smoking materials for a fast-moving fire that killed an elderly woman and her adult son this morning in walnut creek the place broke out inside a ground floor unit of the country wood townhomes that's off treat boulevard and bancroft road about 6:30 officials. say the rapid spread of the fire due in part to an oxygen machine that exploded prevented them from reaching the two victims on the second floor. unfortunately a small dog also died in the fire a total of three units of the apartment complex were damaged a huge fire in vallejo overnight after an suv crashed into a building. this happened on sacramento street near daniels avenue

witnesses say they heard the crash then saw the building engulfed in flames with the suv inside. no one was inside either the car or the building authorities are trying to figure out what happened to that driver. recent attacks at gunpoint on photographers at a popular san francisco tourist destination have some professionals saying they simply will not return to the city as abc 7 news. anchor dion limb explains. some are taking other major precautions, and they're also demanding change. terrifying witness video shows a dallas-based wedding photographer outside the palace of fine arts last week fighting off an attempted robbery at gunpoint in front of the bride and groom. i was just crying all the time. another photographers belongings were stolen at gunpoint at the same location on the very same day this and a number of cases. i've covered in the past year high like the dangers for professional photographers shooting in popular tourist destinations in san francisco. this video used in the police

investigation in march shows a canadian crew. that was robbed of 35,000 in equipment near twin peaks here a number of photographers have since commented on my social media saying they don't have plans to shoot in the city again. i heard from a photographers say that we never go on professional shoots without a guard while there are no statistics available on the number of photographers targeted for their equipment sfpd confirms. they have officers who frequent hotspots for criminal. savior such as the palace of fine arts the most recent statistics for that area show a ten and a half percent drop in robberies in 2021, jefferson graham a photographer and writer who lives in southern california travels to the bay area often for photo and video shoots. he has written extensively about photographer safety and has even changed his own habits while working in the city. i run all over san francisco taking pictures on a smartphone and the video is comparable to what i'm getting on. my 2500 dollars sony and i'm not

online accounts. suddenly all gone in at&t said nothing could be done to get it back. go forever stanley douglas. couldn't believe what just happened. there's nobody that you can talk to it. just tried to log into his svc global email account and it prompted him to reset his password but locked him out instead. he contacted at&t, but an agent told him the account was gone. she said, i'm sorry, but there's nothing that i can do about recouping your email. it's lost forever man it threw me for a loop. i liken it to like maybe your house catching on fire all of a sudden the things that you thought were going to be yours forever. they're gone family. it just lost 25 years worth of files photos records and contacts stored in that email account invoices receipts documentation. no forever the email also linked him to his online accounts with banks businesses and government agencies. so what that means is that you

have to call each of these businesses and attempt to change your email at&t cannot explain. why his account disappeared but stan? ley says there was no one to complain to it was a free service with no guarantees. that's a serious concern that i think every person who has an email account needs to consider seven on your side told at&t. what happened immediately stanley got a call and with a few keystrokes he was able to recover my account. the manager at at&t was able to restore his account after all at&t. did not say why he was told it was gone forever, but tells us from time to time. it is necessary to temporarily lock an account. if we act attempts at unauthorized access we have apologized for mr. douglas and worked with him to restore access to his email account. oh, man, it felt great. it's still there. i can get it i can print it. i was very grateful to seven on
