himself using children, who are safe. ama: this was during busy commute hours. amanda del castillo has her update tonight with witness video that some may find upsetting. >> oh my. >> gunshots ringing out, people running from their cars. this deadly scene unfolding near el camino real at maple street in redwood city. a 36-year-old man known to the department was shot and killed by officers. they say he used three young children as a shield and attempted to shoot them and a woman. >> i remember hearing from the people around me something along the lines of, they got them free and out. and the guy is down. amanda: the witness, kevin jacoby ascii -- kevin jacoubowsky, was told to get

down. >> the dispatchers here a woman's a voice that was yelling and appeared to be calling to some children. you can hear children's voices that were also coming through the open 911 call. sandhya: police chief dan mulholland says the department used tech to find the location of the caller. >> once the officers realized that the man was armed with a handgun, they backed off and a perimeter was set off and they attempted to negotiate with the man. we are here to help you, put the gun down, and then i heard two gunshots initially followed. by several more. amanda: shots were fired by several police officers. the man was taken to the hospital where he died. a woman was taken to the hospital with minor unrelated injuries. the three young children were unharmed and all three officers involved have been placed on

because, allegations from city officials claiming a pattern of misconduct at the berkeley police department. >> derogatory comments about an housed people and racism have no place in policing. tim: in a statement, the city of berkeley called these statements unsettling and called on investigators to verify the validity of the complaints. residents also calling to voice their concerns. >> there needs to be talk about where this issue stems from. tim: the deputy chief says she issued a statement that she just found out about the allegations last week. it reads in part, during any point in my time as an officer to deputy chief, i would have immediately done my part to initiate an investigation. in oakland-based activity group finds lewis' claim difficult to

67 in san jose. high off the pacific northwest. this is a dry low-pressure system and we are right in the middle of it. that is why we have been getting the north northeasterly winds. that wind has been causing issues in southern california where they have wind advisories up. the gusty winds dropping humidity and tomorrow is a red flag warning for parts of southern california. any wildfires that breakout will rapidly spread because they have not had much rain and they also have the strong gusty winds. here, fortunately, our fire danger is omitted because of the fact we have had the recent rain. the winds will remain gusty especially over the higher terrain as we head into tomorrow morning. definitely more on the gusty side but by noon, the winds will drop off. the tower camera looking at a beautiful view of san francisco. we are looking at a cooler
