to call with the latest results show one candidate is taking the lead for the first time. good morning, everybody. we are going to start with another check of the forecast. it feels like fall. lisa: this morning, we have some changes where we are not quite as cold as we have been due to upper wind that is still quite gusty. the entire state of california and pacific northwest dry as a ridge of high pressure normally in command of our weather but here are the numbers from just above freezing in redwood city. the east bay, mid and upper 40's. 50's downtown. some areas, three to 10 degrees milder. while up to the north, it is a chilly start. north winds are mixing the atmosphere. still breezy. the offshore flow allowing for this camera to move a little

bit. as we go through the day, we are warming through the 50's and 60's rate another colder night ahead and we will talk about thanksgiving and beyond, coming up. liz: we begin this morning with the election. it has been 11 days and the race for mayor is still too close to call. loren taylor had held the lead since election night but shane cow has been closing the gap. it is by the slimmest of margins. just under 700 rank-choice voting. it is the ranked choice to system that will determine the winner. thao said the statement saying we have been humble to watch the results shift in our favor. with the latest reports posted, we have taken the lead with very few votes left to count.

in the race for alameda county district attorney, civil rights attorney pamela price is declaring a win over teri wiley. wiley congratulated price in a statement. this race is making history with price becoming the first black alameda county d.a. she also released a statement saying the key numbers are confirmation of our victory. we knew this race was going to be an exclamation point for alameda county. new developments in the race for seneca county sheriff. the latest results show johnson's lead is nearly 6900 votes over jenson. in a statement obtained by our media partner, the mercury news, johnson says, i'm humbled and grateful to all voters for their support. -- provided -- kevin johnson and

i provided voters with two strong candidates. in the end, voters chose to go with a fresh set of eyes and i'm ready to step up and lead the department. jensen has not yet conceded. he said in a statement he will still be fighting for any lack of transparency like i have been for the last 12 years. disgrace their most -- theranos founder elizabeth holmes has been sentenced to 12 years. >> once the face of promise and potential, elizabeth holmes was sentenced friday to 11 years and three months in prison. not the max, but far from the minimum. holmes was convicted in january

comes as he reportedly summoned some remaining workers back in the office. according to sources, he only asked for coders and employees that write software to show up. this comes as data suggest as many as 1200 employees may have resigned. >> he has cut the staff in half and it seems a lot more have walked out the door sense. he has to make sure that things are running exactly the way he needs them to. liz: a group of senate democrats including ion feinstein sent a letter demanding the ftc investigate twitter security and take necessary action for any breaches of business practices that are unfair or deceptive. moving on, one of the victims of an oakland school shooting has died. it has been six weeks since the shooting. david was a carpenter for oakland unified school district and had been hospitalized since the day of the shooting.

students and staff remember him as a valued employee who was always willing to help. he installed the school's pa system which played a major role in student safety the day of the shooting. >> he was a very kind, respectful, gentle human being who just lent a hand. liz: david told a coworker he was looking forward to retiring sunday. police have not made any arrests. the contra costa county coroner's office has released the identities of the five people involved in a wrong way crash it's berg. this is the scene of that crash from early thursday morning. the victims are at 27-year-old, a nine-year-old and a four-year-old. all five died upon impact. it is unclear why tucker was

liz: san francisco is said to hold world leaders. vice-president kamala harris the announcement yesterday. she says there is no better place to host apex 2023 than california. more than 20 countries take part in this event every year. kaiser and the california nurses association have reached a tentative agreement affording a -- of avoiding a two day strike that was supposed to take place. kaiser says this agreement demonstrates our commitment to continuing to provide excellent

year-to-date through september, auto burglaries are up 12% in san francisco. for other crimes, the crime and safety tracker shows overall burglaries are down about 9% over the last 12 months. that is compared to the annual average from the past three years. the tool also allows users to track other crimes such as assaults, homicides and theft, broken down by neighborhood across oakland and san jose as well. users can look up the murder rate in oakland and see it is up by 21 incident in the past 12 months compared to the yearly average. in san jose, that number is down. the tractor goes one step beyond in contractual lysing what that means for you. the neighborhood safety tracker is updated regularly so you can see how incidents like this play

into the greater scheme of crime. liz: new developments with a story we have been tracking on high-profile schools pulling out of the u.s. news & world report ranking. stanford announced its loss -- law school would no longer participate. in a statement, the dean agreed with many of the equity concerns brought up by the other schools. two other prominent law schools also pulled out, georgetown university will no longer be taking part and columbia has joined the list of ivy league schools also boycotting the ranking. and east bay martial arts studio is asking for the communities help to build a new dojo after covid in inflation force them out of their oakland home. for one of the bay areas few black-owned martial art studios, it is about a lot more than money. >> on most nights during the week, you can find kenneth hits

due to all of the unfilled staffing positions, the agency says it also and $61 million less than next acted. happening today, the long-awaited central subway is finally opening up for services. it has been four years since the project was initially supposed to be finished and a decade's construction started. it cost nearly $2 billion. the first train rolls at 8:00 this morning with free rides this weekend from the subways for new stations. there will also be a parade through chinatown with traditional lions, dragons and firecrackers. it is opening day for the aloha skate roller rink replacing the ice rink at the circle of palms plasma on market street. you will be able to get a sweet treat from the snow and hot chocolate cabin which is right next to the rink. skating cost $20 for 20 minutes including skate rental. the opening ceremony will be held on tuesday and it will be open until january 8.

it is beginning to feel a lot like the holidays here. days away from thanksgiving. i organized and ready? lisa: no. hoping for more snow and rain. unfortunately, that has been erased from part of our seven-day outlook. if we look beyond that, there is a hint always teasing us that there is more rain to come. you can see from live doppler 7 how there is no cloud cover from all of california, oregon and washington as the storm track is into canada. we are dry, the upper elevations where we have had the offshore flow, only 20% to 30% relative humidity and no fog. the issue this morning is the wins creating relative humidity and with the wins out of northeast, over 30 miles an hour. 6:54 is the official sunrise.

not as cold for some of us. still chilly mornings on the way the next several days particularly sunday morning. it was 74 in sonoma county yesterday at the airport. the dry pattern continues. big game over at cow and berkeley where temperatures will be in the upper 60's at 2:30 and then a few clouds dropping into the upper 50's. we are losing that offshore flow. that makes for a cooler day and we will look for highs today ranging from the low 60's, which is pretty pleasant at half moon bay to the upper 60's in santa rosa. oakland will be about 66 as well as concord, fremont, livermore. a colder morning for your sunday morning and we keep mild

>> building a better bay area. liz: we are going to start this half-hour with another check of the forecast. he nice, dry weekend ahead. lisa: the afternoon is getting warmer as we head toward the holiday. you can see his shaky mount tam where the winds are still cranking above 20 miles an hour. that is allowing for a warmer start for some of us. 45 in oakland. 48 in palo alto with a cool, chilly 36 in santa clara. so clear out there. 32 in santa rosa. 38 in napa with 45 in livermore. it is warmer by a lot in livermore and concord and half moon bay but it is still awfully cold in santa rosa, ukiah and even san jose feeling the chill. northerly winds will be easing up throughout the day. that is going to allow for a pretty nice afternoon. 9:00, sunny skies, 40's and 50's.

of rsv infections among young children need to rise every the american academy of pediatrics and the children's hospital association are asking the federal government for a formal emergency declaration. both organizations say they are seeing a surge of pediatric respiratory cases. >> we are seeing this very high surge of rsv as well as other respiratory illnesses. i think the wary is we don't know how high the number will climb. is this the beginning of a surge or are we about to? liz: a spokesperson has responded saying they are helping communities most in need. the latest data shows more than three quarters of pediatric hospital beds are in use across the country. governor newsom is releasing $1 billion for state homelessness funding that he was held earlier this on. funds were positive local governments agreed to bolster plans to reduce the number of un-housed people. some of the agreements include

methods to help people get into housing and ways to build housing for poor households. the investigation is launching investigations on filing lawsuits against cities that resist. after the ticket sale debacle for taylor swift's upcoming tour live nation is the parent company of ticketmaster ticket sales left millions of fans heartbroken after the app and website failed to load and complete ticket transactions during its verified fans sale ticketmaster canceled the general public ticket sales for yesterday taylor swift addressed the issue saying she would quote figure out how this situation can be improved. happening today, you're invited to a celebration for a historic neon sign. this is in san jose. the stevens meet company dancing pig sign was recently removed from its original location on montgomery street ahead of google's construction developments. well, it's been relocated to a temporary spot in history park.

the preservation action council has worked to keep the sign operational for many years as an example of neon design and technology. today's event starts at 3 o'clock and there will be art demonstrations a scavenger hunt and free hot dogs. all right. we've all been been there sitting in traffic across the bay area and research finds that most of it might be our fault now the world's largest open track traffic experiment is being done to test technology that may help. excuse me. help drivers overcome shortcomings abc 7 news reporters. zach fuentes spoke with researchers who hope this will alleviate congestion and perhaps a better bay area. it's one of the most aggravating things on the road being stuck in congestion for an extended amount of time only to clear it and see that there was no accident or other obvious cause experts call it a phantom traffic jam and it's caused by human behavior. now these researchers and students from uc. berkeley are pioneering car automation software that can help alleviate those traffic jams and even reduce energy

consumption. we've been testing testing them extensively in simulation, but when the data that we collect in real world can give us definitely more insights this week these uc berkeley researchers and students are in nashville helping to test it in the real world on the open road with 100 cars finally being able to see our algorithm run on a real car and see the speeds that in change and real time truly remarkable. the research has been led by what's called the circles consortium and some big name auto makers have been on board as the cars equipped with artificial intelligence. hit the road. the vehicle will receive data about traffic and with that. will make informed decision on how the vehicle should speed up or slow down according to the congestion that this is or not. see i had before this large-scale test 20 cars were tested on a closed track with only one car that had the automation system. they found that that one car alleviated to stop and go pattern that causes congestion and change the driving behavior of the other 20 cars their goal with this larger scale open

track test is to see if that improvement can hold it finally wrapped on friday. and while we're still many years from rolling this out. researchers say so far so good. my friends know what i'm doing researching. they have high hopes for me to reduce the traffic in the bay area and i want to help them achieve that zach fuentes abc 7 news. aaa says 54 million people are planning to travel more than 50 miles for the thanksgiving holiday. that's up by about one and a half percent from last year in the bay area triple a says the most congested corridor will be interstate 80 around san pablo dam road between four and five pm this coming wednesday the crowds at the airport will be intense with air travel expected to be up about eight percent. new developments lake tahoe tourism experts are now firing back after the destination was put on folders. no list for 2023 voters suggested traveling elsewhere citing overcrowding and environmental damage while according to the chronicle the reactions range from somewhat concerned to quote freaking out a little bit experts say the
