whether his account should be restored. after 15 million votes, the vote for yes one. trump has not tweeted yet and has said that he would remain on his own but form. >> moving onto closure of a new -- new england family -- of an oakland family were some of their remains were found. the family held a visual about 80 miles east of oakley. a flag marked the spot where the investigators made the discovery. investigators say she was killed by her former boyfriend. he was later shot and killed in the seattle area as he tried to arrest him in june. police are asking for the public's help after the kidnapping of a nine-year-old girl. she was last seen on tuesday. police before father did not

return the child after visitation. they said that he is concealing whereabouts and evading law enforcement. if you see him or his daughter you are asked to call police. this car was used in a possible kidnapping. when tell police they saw two women struggling with each other at the intersection at about 5:30. both woman eventually got into the honda sedan. investigators believe it was a case of domestic violence. police are now asking the public for help locating the car and those who were seen driving off in it. first metro trains are seeing -- are now taking writers on the long awaited subway. the line is now connecting with

dion: highway patrol officers are investigating at the freeway.

the latest one happened at 2:40 this morning in oakland with the merge of the i-80. chp officers tell us a shooting involves two vehicles. one person was killed by gunfire. two others were rooted but survived. chp says both vehicles sped away after gunfire. lanes on the i-80 were closed for hours. earlier, gunfire arrested on the bridge. the shooting caused a major backup on the bridge the left drivers delayed for hours. they shut down three lanes. how would confront -- highway patrol says one person was injured by debris. no fatalities were reported in this incident. in san francisco's castro district, residents are taking

charge to clean up. these planters were installed today at the corner of 18th and know we streets. they say there was a fair amount of drug dealing as well. now, they have planted other succulents and drought resistant plants. the hope is to stop the plants from coming up here. there is a dangerous lake effect snow storm causing several deaths. it has dropped several feet of snow in some areas. the governor has declared a state of emergency. the metro area was hit especially hard, getting battered by heavy snow. this feels very early for buffalo. >> it is a bit early for this.

can you imagine the snow. dion: how do you even exit your home? >> who knows what the next couple months will bring. live doppler seven so's clear skies. we have some calm wind allowing temperatures to drop a bit. that is reflected in our temperature change. 20 degrees cooler in fairfield. many of our areas are really getting chilly right now. there are bright lights in francisco. palo alto, 50 degrees. it is all lit up right now. 38 degrees 33 in fairfield.

looking at the bright lights. these are our forecast headlights. mildly sunny days are coming our way. we expect a bright and beautiful day on thanksgiving. here is the overnight forecast. high passing clouds, no significant cloudiness at all. we will start the day with sunny skies and and that way as well. overnight temperatures drop to 33 or perhaps lower. in the fairfield area, down to about 32 degrees. it will be quite chilly overnight. wary around the bay shoreline, mild 40's. on the coastline, highs and lows. highs tomorrow in the south bay. 60's and 70's. mainly mid-60's in palo alto.

downtown san francisco will top out at 65. 65 in santa rosa and napa. east bay, 66 in oakland, 67 in fremont. highs only in the low to mid 60's in east bay. this is generally our warmest region. 65-66 elsewhere. here is the seven-day forecast. not much change on monday and tuesday. wednesday will be pretty mild. thursday, sunny skies with highs around 72 degrees. buffalo could use some of this. the flu will take off as well. as terry explains, even the experts are not exactly sure what to expect. >> it is all hands on deck in the bay area as sick kids continue packing hospitals. >> on the heel a bit, there could be other respiratory illnesses. who knows what would come with another covid surge? terry: this is the medical director for medicine at usf. at the children's hospital, they are bracing for what could come. >> gearing up extra staff, creating extra spaces so that we can see all the kids that need to come in for evaluation. terry: with thanksgiving just days away, the doctor points to a potential surge. >> with travel, there have been

regional pockets and hotspots of rsv and the flu. terry: the doctor is urging people to take safety precautions. even masking. terry: mask -- >> masking especially at airports. even is just the covid -- even if it is just the common flu. terry: this three-year-old suffering brain swelling after conducting covid in july. >> doctors came in and said they were assuming he had increased pressure in the brain. they told us to prepare our ourselves. terry: this dr. is a pediatrician at senior cyanide medical center.

within 12 hours, cj cannot talk or walk. he was transferred to ucla where he spent 20 days in the icu. four months later, he is still recovering. >> anything from 1-5 years. terry: doctors cannot say covid was the reason but parents say they wish they got him vaccinated sooner. >> we were just coming back from vocation and he was going to get the vaccine. it would have been different for him. dion: an icon in downtown san jose has been moved to a different temporary home. you have probably seen it getting on or off the plane -- the train at the station. it is the dancing pig neon sign. the company is long gone but the sign remains.

>> this is abc7news. >> they can be lifesavers in an emergency. a month long investigation uncovered that some fire hydrants have not been inspected in years. problems have been reported, including in the open hills, an area where there is extreme fire risk. stephanie sierra expose the lack of accountability from the city to address the problem. >> lessons learned and lessons lost. oakland hill resident doug mosher does not want to live another mistake. >> to have the water supplies crucial to fight a fire. >> what are the most important

lessons learned from the open firestorm is access. 31 years ago, oakland's fire hydrants were different than most across the state. this limited the help surrounding agencies could provide if they did not have the adapters necessary to access the water supply. the problem was fixed in 1994. 28 years later, residents are now left with a different question. are these hydrants even working? they told us they are responsible for maintaining more than 31,000 public fire hydrants. we discovered only a fraction are regularly inspected. 2.5%. that is 800 hydrants prayer. >> i don't think they took the issue seriously. maybe they did not take me seriously. >> it's one of many reasons nick moved out of california after 22

years. in september 2020, he asked if hydrants are routinely inspected. the agency told him we do not have a proactive program in place right now to inspect or repair hydrants. we are launching a preventative made its program -- means program in october. it did not happen. records obtained show after repeated requests from residents, the fire preventative maintenance program eventually launched a year later, in october of 2021. >> our goal is to inspect 800 fire hydrants every year. >> high fire severity zones are a priority for us. >> the data seems to tell a different story. there are more than 32,000 public ire hydrants in the city of oakland. the records request to see the total number of inspections

conducted by east bay in areas of the higher -- highest risk. in area identified as a five higher severity zone. this included roads that burned in the oakland firestorm in 1991. after waiting nearly three months for the documents, the team found only 17 inspections in these areas since 2018. >> i wish they would just do the job. they should not be that hard. >> its neighbors tired of taking pictures showing hydrants that meet -- that looked to be deteriorating. the hydrants should be visible from all approaches. there should be no brush, structures, or soil that interfere with anyone accessing hoses or operating hydrant. if you ask grossman, dozens of neighbors complained that is not the reality of the roads. how many have you seen like this? >> i have seen to riding my bike

around. i am not even looking. >> we found several hydrants like this, covered up and hard to access. some missing the markers that are placed on the road to help fire crews identify locations. >> this is the hydrant. >> we met with heather moz de to show us these pictures. she told us is not a big issue. >> we rarely run into a hydrant we think is working and doesn't work. it is rare. >> thousands of repair records show there were 78 leaking issues from 2019 through june of this year. the majority reported in oakland. handful of those leaks were due to hydrants. at least 83 hydrants were hit, mainly by vehicles like police cars and delivery trucks. more than a dozen were hit and high fire risk areas and had damage that took more than one month to repair and replace. this hydrant in castro valley,

took more than six months to repair. >> they tend to be overlooked often. people drive by hydrants and don't pay to which attention. >> who will pay tension? we brought the issue back to the agencies involved. vegetation management inspection. >> the department conducts inspections to make sure homeowners are reducing their wet -- their wealth. >> it is not part of the residential agitation. >> wouldn't it make sense to have a be a part of it? >> we just get to use the hydrants. >> we shared these photos. >> with this concern you? it can't be that you're accessing the water from here or there. i don't know what the problem

is. >> they said the hydrants the agency oversees are painted white. some may be read to indicate lower water presser -- water pressure. >> some are covered and not visible. this is what it looks like around it. >> i can't tell you whether that's ok or not. >> the requirement of the code can. it is clear. it states the fire department should not deterred or hindered from getting immediate access to fire hydrants. that axis shall be maintained at all times. plus, three feet of clear space shall be mean -- maintained around the circumference of the fire hydrant. >> it should be clear around it. >> it's difficult to say. some people plant their plants around it. >> somehow the fire department says it's not their problem.
