numbers this morning are a couple degrees milder than yesterday but it is still cold. look that freezing in nevada. 29 by fairfield. 39 in san jose. there is a look at a couple of degrees milder in spots. mid-60's by noon. kumasi: this morning there is new information about the deadly mass shooting at a colorado springs lgbtq nightclub called club q. the men who stop the accused shooter is speaking for the first time and we are learning more about the victims. jobina: the man who stopped the accused gunman and possibly saved thousands of lives says he is no hero. he is an army veteran who says his training kicked in. richard fierro was at club q with his wife, daughter, and friend when the shooting began.

that is when he jumped into action, pinning the gunman and grabbing his pistol while instructing others to grab the weapon. he says one drag queen pummeled the shooter with her heels. while he likely saved many lives, her daughters -- his daughter's boyfriend was one of those killed. >> there are five people i cannot help, one of which was family to me. i'm not excited. that guy is still alive and my family is not. jobina: the 22-year-old suspect faces murder and hate crime charges. this video shows his arrest last year when he was accused of making bomb threats towards his own mother. the case was dismissed because his family refused to operate. the suspect was due in court yesterday but the da says his injuries were so significant he had to stay in the hospital. reggie: people who live and work

in san francisco's castro district are still struggling to process that deadly shooting. for those who run the numerous bars and nightclubs in the area at the colorado springs attack does hit close to home. we talked to chris hastings, owner of the lookout, that he guards are on duty seven nights a week. >> i do not know what to do beyond what we are already doing. because this is not the first time this has happened, because threats like this are something we hope we never have to do with directly but anticipate. reggie: pasting says his staff has been doing after you -- active shooter training since the pulse nightclub shooting. kumasi: then there is a saying we want to show you from the historic castro theater. you can see the markey spelling out the same message written the memorial outside of club q that reads love over hate.

need to hear before the holidays. lena: in santa clara county there has been an abrupt increase in rsv casey's. -- cases. that combined with the flu and covid is putting stress on the medical system. county health officials are planning to give us an update on the number of beds available countywide, including pediatric beds going into this holiday weekend. the chief of pediatric pulmonary medicine at lucile packard children's hospital, dr. david kornfield, believes more children are getting rsv because less were exposed to it over the past few years. >> it makes sense when there are some neat kids that have not seen the virus and now many of them are being infected for the first time that there will be relatively more children infected. lena: health officials are urging the public to vaccinate against the flu and get a covid booster if it has been six months since your last shot.

conference this morning at 10:00. kumasi: hayward city councilmember will be sworn into the state senate as the first muslim and afghan american elected to the body. the 31-year-old will represent district 10. they received endorsements from political heavyweights but says she also faced racist and islam a phobic attacks run this year. >> i hope to bring mileage experiences to the policies we make, to be more inclusive to think about the most vulnerable committee members, and that has been part of my policies, even in the city of hayward. kumasi: she says that is a state senator she will prioritize affordable housing, public safety, and small businesses. reggie: the governor's office says it will release $1 billion in state funds to help with homelessness. the governor initially said he would freeze that funding because local leaders were not doing enough to help the population. now cities and counties in the

two drivers under arrest following the deadly crash in redwood city that left twin sisters without their parents. the 17-year-old and 23-year-old drivers were racing. grayson greg allman died when another car hit there's november 4. their seven-year-old twins were also in the car. they survived. investigators say the driver of the car that hit them is only 70. police arrested them on friday. -- is only 17. police arrested them on friday. the 23-year-old was arrested. reggie: postponing crab season will protect humpback whales from being entangled in crab tracks -- in crab traps. climate change has changed humpback whales migration patterns, putting them in fishing zones into the late fall. officials would read about the

has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder, assault, and weapons charges. he is charged with shooting at a man accused of sexually abusing his son. he was granted bail and monitored release earlier this month and now he is asking the court for permission to travel to arizona to participate in a wrestling event. a judge has not ruled on that request. i 35-year-old man is in the hospital after being stabbed in an unprovoked random attack. the stabbing happened around 11:20 yesterday morning on lakeshore avenue in oakland. investigators told the times the victim was sitting drinking coffee when a man stabbed him in the neck. the two did not know each other. the suspect was arrested a few blocks away it is now undergoing a psychiatric evaluation. could your next flight only have one pilot? that is what some airlines and regulators are pushing for. over 40 countries have asked united nations body that sets airline standards to make the

the disco largest freight rail unions have rejected the latest contract offer. jobina: if a strike were to happen it would cost the economy about $2 billion a day. both unions cannot agree on the contract brokered by the biden administration monday. a union representing conductors and other workers rejected the proposal. a stoppage could shut down coal shipments and put drinking water at risk. the strike will hit farmers because of low water levels in the mississippi river impacting traffic. >> farmers and agricultural shippers are looking for lifelines because the river is not operating as it normally does and rail is the preferred lifeline because rail is very well-designed to transport heavy commodities long distances as well. now all of the sudden we have this big question mark. jobina: experts say even a short

strike could cause delays and congestion as nearly 30% of u.s. freight is moved by rail. if the deal is not reached soon, the rail stoppage could begin as soon as december 5. kumasi: more twitter employees are out of the job this morning. these latest cuts from the company's sales department. according to bloomberg, elon musk set out notices sunday night after holding a meeting with that department where he did not mention the layoffs at all. no word on the number of layoffs. twitter had more than 7000 employees before elon musk took over last month. bloomberg says it has gotten word from a source that now twitter is down to about 2750 employees. the warriors are facing a second large -- a second lawsuit over the sponsors of of ftx. the east bay times is reporting the ftx founder is also named in the suit. it proposes the defending nba champions of wrongfully

promoting ftx. one of the people who lost $750,000 from investing says the team saw ftx as a safe and viable way to invest in crypto. the team does not comment on pending litigation. the san francisco brewery is preparing to close at san francisco location but is expanding in east bay. it posted it cannot make a new lease for its sonoma taproom, but it has acquired the red barrel brandon berkeley and are getting grade to open a new location in oakland. in the face -- in the post, they say we outgrew the space a long time ago. we have been on the hunt for a larger location to grow the brand and the trv space in berkeley is just what we need. the taproom will close at the end of december. reggie: pier 39 and san francisco lights up for the holidays.

the burn center in los angeles posted this photo of jay leno and some of his caregivers. he got second and third degree burns when gasoline ignited while he was working on a car. he underwent surgery and will receive outpatient care while taking a break from shooting his tv show. doctors expect them to make a full recovery. kumasi: families in the north bay will not have to worry about how they are getting their thanksgiving meal. homeless in family outreach in san rafael just held its free holiday giveaway. a typical holiday meal is out of reach for a lot of people this season. the staff is telling us about 65% of its clients are housed in many are living paycheck-to-paycheck. >> some of our clients are having to make the choice between buying food and paying rent, and with the cost of things going up so extremely, our ability to provide a thanksgiving meal is very meaningfully for many families. kumasi: volunteers say they had to work the phones to get enough food to meet the demand.
