asked night and our city. my prayers are with those affected and the victims, their family, their friends and coworkers. i'm grateful for the quick actions taken by first responders who rushed to the scene. chesapeake is a tightknit community and we are shaken by this news. together, we will support each other throughout this time. please keep us in your prayers. before i turn it over to chief celestin, i want to make a few remarks. i am very proud of the response of our public safety team and our other first responders, including those in human services and mental health. you hope a day like this never comes, but we trained for it. we practice, we talk about it, we learn lessons from other places. we have tried to put those lessons to good use, hoping those lessons will never have to be put to use. but, it has kept us in good standing today and hopefully, we will continue to do so in the challenging days ahead. i wanted to let everyone know

chesapeake community is here for you. we will continue to be here for you during the difficult days, months and years ahead. chesapeake first responders are well trained for such incidents. they responded immediately, will continue to do the work of investigating and answering questions in the days to come. we appreciate the multiagency response we received. i will go over a timeline of the events. our 911 dispatch center received the first call at 10:12 p.m. last night. the first officers arrived on scene within two minutes at 10:14. entered the store approximately at 10:16. the first responding officers entered the store and the scene was declared safe by 11:20 p.m. i would like to express our sincere thanks for the immediate assistance we received from the chesapeake fire department, the

chesapeake attorney's office, the virginia beach police department, the virginia state police, the fbi, the atf. while our investigation continues, we can tell you the following. six victims have died. four victims aren't area hospitals with conditions unknown at this time -- are in area hospitals with conditions unknown at this time. the suspect is dead from what we believe is a self-inflicted gunshot wound. the chesapeake swat team executed a warrant at the suspects residence and with the help of the virginia state police we cleared house. we have reason to believe that there was no risk to the public at this time. while this investigation is ongoing, i will take a few questions now. we cannot tell you the identity of the shooter because his next of kin has not been notified. >> [indiscernible]

walmart last night. we have been able to confirm with police six people have died , the shooter died from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound and four people are injured and are currently in area hospitals with conditions we do not know now. reggie: police were able to get to the seam -- seen within two minutes of the first call. this happened after 10:00 last night rate as you can imagine, people were shopping for thanksgiving. i was reading an account from a woman in the store, she said it was busy. the question is, where did this happen in the store? cnn reports it appears to have happened in the break room where employees were gathered, we do not know who exactly was killed and who was sent to the hospital. it does sound like from what the police chief said this was an employee of walmart and it may have happened in an employee area of the store. that is information we will be getting in the coming hours. this is the second mass shooting

we have had in the united states in this week, the week of holiday. in both cases, this is happening in a crowded space where people are gathering. it is shocking and upsetting how frequently this is becoming. kumasi: i want to harp on that for a moment. he did say we have learned lessons from this happening in other places and preparation for something like that. that is striking to me. it shows how common this is, this has been a tough couple of weeks for the state of virginia. one last note, the police have not released the identity of the shooter because the shooter's family has not been notified. reggie: you are a food into the shooting that happened at the university of virginia not long ago. more on this as we get it in. we have information at the shooting that happened earlier. kumasi: the suspect in the

shooting at the club q nightclub in colorado springs is expected to appear in court. anderson aldrich will go before a judge on 10 preliminary charges including five counts of murder and hate crimes. the 22-year-old was severely beaten after police say aldrich opened fire on people inside the lgbtq+ venue saturday night. recently released court filings show aldrich is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns. reggie: unprecedented threats and attacks against lgbtq americans leading up to the colorado springs shooting. a poll by glad finds 72% of transgender people say they feel -- fear for their safety and the current political environment. 48 percent of the overall lgbtq community surveyed agrees. glad released a first of its kind analysis of attacks against drag performers. there have been more than 120 incidents in 47 states this year. the violence we are talking about can take a toll on our

work filings show neil matthew dollard's accused of leaving a threatening voicemail at congressman's office earlier this month. days later, he allegedly posted threatening comments about fbi director christopher wray on a facebook video. the agency posted congressman gara monday from fairfield spoke to cnn via zoom. >> it is all of the hate talk that is readily available on social media platforms. it incites people to do these kinds of violent threats and action. jobina: capitol police threat assessment team investigating records show the team is open more than 9600 cases this year, a sharp increase from years past. reggie: dr. anthony fauci held what will likely be his last white house covid briefing before he leaves government service at the end of the year. dr. fauci has been a near constant source of information at the white house since the onset of the pandemic.

jobina: a couple in southern california and thanking another couple they are close friends with for donating kidneys to both of them. abc news reporter rhiannon allie. reporter: in this morning's gma first look, a thanksgiving medical miracle. thompson are the best of friends. except, chris had been hiding a secret he finally shared with debbie in 2015. chris had secretly been battling the genetic sorter, polycystic kidney disease and she needed a new kidney. >> you can have mine, i do not know what the process is. reporter: debbie was a match for her best friend and the surgery was a success. in 2020, chris's husband ron found out he needed a kidney transplant. like his wife, ron hid the news from his close friends until debbie and her husband learned what was happening and decided to return the favor that likely saved chris's life.
