inflation and impacts from 2020 clog could lead to unprecedented shopping steels and a rush. >> that picture has changed dramatically. retailers have excessive inventory that they need to get rid of. reporter: businesses started their black friday deals earlier this year than in years past. shoppers concerns over inflation have sparked their desire to buy before prices go up. >> you will see discount from 30 to 60%. reporter: 80% of holiday consumers plan to shop during the black friday weekend. 10% more than last year. even with inflation, they plan to spend 50% of their holiday shopping budgets this weekend. with record deals come experts caution, shop wisely. >> don't take a price at face value. you will see great prices everywhere. stop, take a beat, check your list. is this something that you need?

do digging to find out if you are getting a great deal. reporter: abc news, los angeles. stephanie: most of the major stores are closed on thanksgiving but they will be open bright and early tomorrow. best buy will open at 5:00. macy's at 6:00. target stores at 7:00. we have a full list of store hours and the great deals you can find over on abc7news.com. elon musk plans to grant what he's calling amnesty to suspended twitter accounts next week. online safety experts believe this will cause a rise in harassment and hate speech. the billionaire posted a nonscientific twitter pull on his timeline asking users if he should reinstate accounts that have not broken any law or engaged in egregious spam. 72% of people voted yes so musk said he would follow through. he's already allowed some high-profile suspended users to return to the platform but it appears this will extend to most suspended users.

developing news now. president joe biden is reopening his call to ban assault weapons after recent mass shootings and three small towns across the country. the message comes after tuesday shooting at a walmart in chesapeake. six-story employees were shot and killed by their manager. the other two mass shootings within tate days -- 10 days of each other were in charlottesville and colorado springs. >> the idea that we still allow semi automatic weapons to be purchased is sick. just sick. stephanie: biden says he will try to get the votes from congress to pass an assault weapons ban. there's been more than 600 mass shootings reported in the u.s. this year. walmart today hosted a thanksgiving dinner for the families of the victims in chesapeake to support those in you -- and grief. a brush fire burned near the sonoma line today.

cal fire reported that the fire burned about seven acres of land but they claim no evacuations were required. officials were able to contain the fire with airdropped. crews are monitoring hotspots. firefighters got to enjoy a thanksgiving meal on the fire line. the dinner was prepared by firefighter colleagues and families at station 49 in cloverdale. on this thanksgiving night, a reminder that the holiday isn't just about dinner and drinks. for some, it's about family and friends. for others who are alone, it can be a struggle. anser hassan visited the bay area rescue mission enrichment, serving meals and hope to more than 300 families in need. reporter: each year, the bay area rescue mission enrichment serves thanksgiving lunch and dinner to those in need. this year is different. >> seeing an increase of need. there has been an increase in

families, children. reporter: he's a chaplain and case manager at the bay area rescue mission, providing food and shelter to the city since 19 625. according to tate, this thanksgiving they served over 300 families but they serve over 1000 meals each week. over the past year, he says he seen an increase in those seeking services. >> life has a way. even though it doesn't make sense, it makes sense because we are resonating. i identify that a lot of families have experienced hardship throughout this particular year. reporter: the meal isn't just about the plate of food. thanksgiving is often a time to be with family. for many here tonight, this is the closest they will get to a sense of belonging. >> just the relationship aspect. the communal aspect. building rapport with those who feel disenfranchised and downtrodden.

stephanie: what a day it was on the bay bridge as many were trying to get to their thanksgiving destinations. there was a seven car accident. j.r. stone's hearing about the aftermath. reporter: cellphone video showing what it looked like in the europe retina tunnel along the eastbound lanes of the bay bridge. >> i have no idea how the car ended up on top of another car. would love to know how that happened. it was crazy looking. reporter: they knew something wasn't right before they moved -- drove past this accident. they for -- saw fire trucks.

>> i thought if there's a fire, there's no way out. that's it. i was praying like crazy. reporter: chp says seven cars were involved in the accident and there were 16 occupants within the cars. eight adults and eight kids. two of the 16 were transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. when the family did get to the tunnel, they were amazed at the site. >> a car sitting on top of a car. >> we saw probably seven cars, four that were piled up at the end. then you see the other cars in front and back. they got pushed. >> it was a lot. reporter: chp says the accident is under investigation but they confirm that drugs and alcohol are not to blame. the accident led to major delays . one woman told us, it took her

2.5 hours to get to antioch. another driver said he turned around and took the san mateo bridge. out-of-towners impressed with local emergency crews. >> police and firefighters did a good job. they diverted traffic. >> people took -- were courteous to one another. i don't know if it would have been like that in los angeles. reporter: abc7news. stephanie: tomorrow, all rivals matching up at the world cup. the u.s. and england will face off to support the american team. several landmarks are lit up in red, white, blue tonight. check out san jose city hall. you can watch the usa england match on a giant big screen in union square in san francisco or san pedro square. new 11:00, thanks given might not be over yet. some bay area residents are already gearing up for christmas

. a christmas tree farm even got some visitors tonight. tim johns tells us, some families are getting festive earlier than ever before. >> this is another eight footer. noble. reporter: one holiday ends and another is just beginning. >> make all the cookies. we make gingerbread houses. reporter: many were finishing up their holiday fees. others were already heading to places like clancy in san francisco. >> giving energy. around this time of year, people are more giving to not only their families but to the people in need. >> nice, strong. reporter: everyone on a mission to snag one of the best christmas trees in town. >> we have trees all the way from one foot, 18 inches for $20. we have trees all the way up to 26 feet tall. reporter: they have won the cup -- run the company for 70 years.

trimming. certainly no wasting any time. how is the forecast shaping up? sandhya: it's going to be fantastic tomorrow. you don't have to worry about it if you are shopping. lugging those bags through the wet weather. we do need the rain. let me show you the air quality. it's definitely suffering. parts of san jose, the east bay with moderate air quality. heading out towards the delta, we even have a read. that's unhealthy. that's why a spare the air alert is in effect for tomorrow. worst air quality expected in the north bay. saturday, slight improvement. by sunday, we will start to get good air quality into this area. the reason for all of this dirty air and pollutants getting trapped as we have an area of high pressure that brought us warmth. it's putting a lid on the atmosphere. although pollutants are getting trapped right near the surface with that sinking air underneath

stephanie: many say a turkey trot is a great way to gear up for a big meal. chris alvarez has the play-by-play. reporter: from san francisco to oakland to san jose. thousands of people started their thanksgiving with a little exercise. for some, it's tradition to participate in a turkey trot before eating turkey. >> get out into a little exercise before we gobble till we wobble. >> my mom is making thanksgiving. >> we built up calorie credit so we will have a feast. >> let's eat more food. >> cities across the bay area held 5k and 10k races. thanksgiving themed costumes were common. san jose lays claim to hosting
