>> building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions, this is abc 7 news. liz: a muni bus carjacked in san francisco's mission district. new video of the dangerous joyride that ended with a suspect in custody. it is saturday, november 26. thank you for joining us. we will have more on our top story in a moment. let's get a check of the forecast. nice week we had. lisa: it has been nice. a cold front has been in part of the north bay this morning. it is a dry front bringing in the clouds. it will scatter to mostly sunny conditions with breezy onshore winds for san francisco. right now we are in the upper

40's. it is a milder start, 46 oakland. there is a look at some of the clouds for you. 43 in livermore. santa cruz with mostly cloudy conditions. we will get into the sunshine. low to mid 60's co-side and around the bay. -- coast side and around the bay. we will look at another front by the end of the week. i want to show you the rain totals in a few minutes. liz: thank you. this morning in san francisco, police have arrested a man who investigators say stole a muni bus and attacked the driver. this is video from a witness who was in traffic following the bus as it made several risky maneuvers. police say the suspect boarded a bus with no passengers on it. this happened just before 8:00 last night around cortland and mission streets.

the suspect hitting at least 10 vehicles along the way. officers were able to take the suspect into custody. the bus driver and a second driver suffered injuries, but they are expected to be ok. today is small business saturday. in the east bay, there is a new initiative to encourage people to shop locally. our reporter has more on a new gift card program in martinez. >> here is the shadowless mewtew going for 200. >> games of martinez opened its new location three months ago. >> you are keeping that in good condition. >> they specialize in boardgames, trading card games. >> if it is a perfect 10, that means it was perfect out of the factory. >> store manager derek says business has been solid. they offered special black friday sales. friday nights, they host a card exchange event.

sales have taken a hit since the pandemic. >> the card market is in a low right now. it is a little uncertain where it is going to go from here. hopefully the holidays will boost sales. >> the next couple weeks are critical for you. >> yes. >> black friday is followed by small business saturday. some areas like martinez have come up with programs to promote shopping locally, such as the digital gift card gift for martinez. >> i am not a huge chopper, but i am learning from my friend. she is the one that gets me out and convinces me to go to all the local spots. >> julie jones says she supports the city's effort to support local business. the city of martinez points to studies that show local retailers pump 47% of their revenue back into the local will

liz: here is a live look from our sutro tower can looking out over the golden gate bridge. beautiful view. seven people were injured, and at least one person is in critical condition following that mass shooting at a walmart in virginia. we are learning more about the shooting, including the identity of the youngest 16-year-old victim. families are grieving as witnesses revealed more details into the targeted attack. >> this morning, authorities identified 16-year-old fernando chavez around, the youngest victim at the virginia walmart. >> fernando is my friend.

he was intelligent, soccer fan, and like any other kid in the community. reporter: the family holding a memorial in his memory as the chesapeake immunity plans a candlelight vigil for monday honoring him in the five other victims, lorenzo gamble, brian pendleton, kellie pyle, antennae could johnson. -- and tyneka johnson. in the message found on the gunman's phone, the walmart manager complained about his colleagues and referred to murder. police confirming the gunman legally purchased the nine millimeters pistol just hours before the rampage, finding a receipt alongside ammunition at his home. witnesses telling abc news the

gunman appeared to be targeting specific employees, opening fire in a staff meeting at the start of the overnight shift. >> he knew when we were in the break room. starts at 10:00 every night. liz: two men have been charged for a homide that happenenving a investigators found a man shot on wharf drive thursday afternoon. that victim has not been identified. he died at the scene. 18-year-old emmanuel morales of antioch has been booked on charges of murder and possession of an assault weapon. 38-year-old arturo morales is charged as an accessory. sunday marks the 44th anniversary of the assassination of harvey milk and george moscone. the community is gathering at harvey milk plaza for a candlelight vigil in remembrance. as tara campbell tells us, in the wake of the colorado springs shooting, this year's commemoration is taking on new meaning.

reporter: this was the scene last sunday in the castro. the community and its allies gathering in the wake of the deadly shooting at a lgbtq+ nightclub in colorado springs. this sunday, they will gather on the 44th anniversary of the assassinations of harvey milk and mayor george moscone, both shot by supervisor dan white. >> it was political violence that took away mayor george moscone and supervisor harvey milk. it was political violence. what we are seeing is the same thing is happening. reporter: jeffrey quan is the vice president of the harvey milk lgbtq democratic club. the organization condemning congresswoman marjorie taylor greene's attack on state senator scott wiener this week, falsely calling him a groomer. >> you have these attacks

intensifying, malicious attacks intensifying. it is horrifying. >> it is the rise of homophobia and transphobia and violence against our community, a reminder that what happened in 1978 to harvey milk and george moscone is not over. reporter: in 2022, 36 states introduced anti-lgbtq+ bills, and quan says those legislative actions are fueling violence against the community. >> a slew of legislation across state legislatures nationwide targeting kids, schools, trans and lives lost, but this sunday the community will do it again. tara campbell, abc 7 news. liz: the abc 7 originals documentary "murder at city hall" is now available on-demand.

it tells the story of what led up to the murders of george moscone and harvey milk in 1978. you can download the abc 7 bay area app. early voting kicked off in georgia today. it is raphael warnock against herschel walker. george's supreme court ruled early voting could be offered today. it changes last year's voting law allowing weekend voting just after holiday. early voting is allowed in all georgia counties monday through friday next week. tourism is picking up in san francisco. holiday displays light up the city, and security presence is also being increased. the san francisco police department responded to multiple robberies in union square last year. you probably remember those videos. this season, the city increased security and doubled down on christmas advertisements. hotels in the area have noticed

a turnaround. >> after a couple years of sluggishness, it is nice to see union square back. liz: the christmas tree and the winter wanderland outside the palace street entrance is are attractions drawing people back to the area. winter wanderland is open daily from noon until 7:00 through december 24. in the east bay, multiple streets were blocked off for the lighting of the old oak tree in danville. the ceremony kicked off with musical selections followed by a tree lighting ceremony from father christmas. the 350-year-old tree sits in the center of diablo road. this weekend is a popular time for people to create meals with thanksgiving leftovers. yesterday, the downtown streets team in palo alto used extras to serve meals to the homeless at all saints church. volunteers provided sandwiches, salads, pies, and more. >> it is all about building

community. in terms of solving homelessness, it is going to take a community response. we are building that bridge. liz: this was the downtown teams 17th year serving meals. they are located in 16 communities throughout northern and central california. definitely leftovers are one of the best parts of thanksgiving if you can stomach it. lisa: i could. definitely a nice afternoon thursday and friday. we are looking at numbers not where they should be for this time of year. we will get more in line for that sunday afternoon. temperatures noticeably cooler as we get through the middle of the week, some of the frosty us readings -- frostiest readings we have seen in a while. temperatures anywhere from five to seven degrees up from yesterday's readings. that reflectivity may be a

tuesday and wednesday, we are looking at frost and widespread freeze warnings as we get closer to the event. that is the second system that will bring colder air. afternoon highs reflected in temperatures at or below average. the precipitation, we have to wait as we get through that dry cold air mass. thursday, this system is knocking on our door. friday, we have several systems, forecast models we look at. this sets up an atmospheric river. generous amounts of rain through friday and saturday. as we look at that one forecast model through the upcoming work week, this system brings rain down to southern california, but upwards of 0.42 for san jose. take that with a grain of salt until we get closer.

the north bay. we have had low clouds and mid-level clouds, upper 40's in san francisco. as we look at temperatures from the golden gate bridge here, it is already cleared out where numbers are in the low 40's like santa rosa and livermore. then we have the cloud cover in overnight and 9:00 is a sunny morning with low 50's. low 60's by 11:00 and by 1:00 we are back to above average. we move away from the coast and upper 60's and northern bay, another day of mild temperatures before we see temperatures slip we are sunday, we have frost potentially for the middle of the week and the rain we want to try for the end of the week coming up. >> amnesty for suspended account, that is what twitter's new owner says will happen.

critics warned this could lead to more hate speech. >> another day and another putter head line, elon musk is letting bad twitter users come back. the billionaire posted a poll on twitter asking if user accounts should be reinstated if they have not broken the law or engaged in agreed to spam. the yes vote was 72%. follow-up post musk tweeted that the people have spoken and amnesty begins next week. he has reinstated former president trump, kanye west, marjorie taylor greene, her account was banned for violating the covid misinformation policy. >> these are things i am concerned about. >> melissa michelson is with a college and she says reactivating the suspended account only invites trouble. >> you get things like vaccine deniers, the attack on the pizza parlor in d.c. what people

thought there was a pedophile ring, get election deniers, the outcomes of elections, you get violence and you get a violent uprising on january 6. >> communication professor says censorship is not the answer. >> i thing the misconception is we can censor our way out of the hate speech or misinformation and that was never going to be a possibility. i have always believed this whole campaign to remove people from online platforms was never going to get to the root of the problem. why do we have hate speech? where does hate originate from? where does misinformation originate from? how can we help people respond to information? removing people from online platforms does not move -- remove any of that. >> it is a question of how you can spot misinformation so you that you do not fall for it and how you can change the culture so that hate speech is also prevalent and individuals do not believe it and individuals do

>> do you think space conflict in the future is inevitable? >> because space is such an important domain we are going to have to aim north for the potential. that requires a rather big capability. >> on friday, nasa's orion spacecraft entered a distant retrograde orbit around the moon and a nasa spacecraft is set to break in orbit, this kind of orbit is higher and more stable which makes them more fuel-efficient. it is called a retrograde orbit because orion is traveling in the opposite direction from the moon as it orbits the earth. they orion spacecraft is unmanned, if there were astronauts on board it would not be operating like this, nasa wants to test the spacecraft's limit. nasa will be the furthest point away from earth a record of nearly a quarter million miles that was hit by apollo 13 back in 1970. even though black friday has
