there is our festive look outside. we will be partly cloudy throughout the sun coming up after seven, setting before 5:00. breezy at the coast, upper 50's there. we will look for another chilly evening, cold days and frosty mornings ahead with rain arriving by the end of the week. liz: thank you. antioch police are looking for two suspects linked to an attempted robbery that turned deadly saturday morning. it happened at the chevron gas station on contra loma boulevard south of highway 4. residents say they could hear the gunshots and some are angry more is not being done to fight violent crime. our reporter spoke to those who knew the victim. >> this was crazy. last night i heard the shots. reporter: this woman said she heard the gunshots that allegedly killed the employee who worked at this chevron station in antioch. >> i've only been living, here since april of this year, but it

makes me wonder, did i make the right move to move here in antioch? reporter: a mom of young children, she says she recently moved from oakland, looking for a safer place to raise her kids. >> it is scary. i literally come to this gas station everyday. to hear someone i used to say hello to and find out that he passed away is just scary, you know? small kids, young children. reporter: antioch police say they received a 911 call just after 2:00 a.m. on saturday. when they arrived on scene, they found a 36-year-old man on the ground who was shot in the head. police believe this was likely a botched robbery. >> there was a surveillance video of the incident, which captured two male suspects who have not been apprehended at this time. >> i have seen him a couple times. i feel bad. when i hear his children, i am

so sorry. reporter: ricardo gonzalez says this is a rough part of town, especially late at night. he says the area needs more police presence. >> people are coming in the night and everything. reporter: you think there should be more police presence? >> yeah, that is what i think. >> i get scared coming to this part of the neighborhood, so i'm not surprised. i am shocked someone was killed, but i am not too surprised. reporter: christy grew up in antioch. she thinks crime is on the rise. she too thinks more police patrols in the area would help residents feel safer. >> i get scared, i get angry this is happening and nothing is being done about it because it keeps getting worse. liz: only on 7, nearly 180 thousand dollars in merchandise was stolen from a camera shop in an armed robbery near union square. four individuals get out of a

sedan yesterday afternoon near bush and grant. these images used in the police investigation shows one suspect with a firearm inserting the leica store. one person is holding a tool, and you can see the smashed display case. just days ago, the mayor and sfpd assured the public of additional safety measures. multiple sources tell abc 7 news that $20,000 in damages were caused by the robbery. sfpd says anyone with information is asked to come forward. a muni driver is recovering after being attacked and carjacked friday night. the bus going wide and barreled through the area. the hijacker got behind the wheel and took off, hitting at

least 10 vehicles before going to a stop on 19th and guerrero. police arrested the suspect, who is said to have minor injuries. small business saturday is a day when local business owners remind you to do your holiday shopping away from malls and big retailers. cornell barnard shows us how one city in the north bay even made it snow to attract shoppers. cornell: a winter wonderland brought to life on 4th street, with a little help from this snowmaking machine. ♪ two blocks of downtown were closed to cars on small business saturday. >> the opportunity to support people who are creating art and locally helping to feed the economy.

liz: here it is a live look outside from the golden gate bridge. time is 5:11. we hope you're having a good start to sunday. eight months and the war in ukraine is intensifying, russian missiles taking up parts of the power grid, leaving millions in the dark. as tara campbell reports, there are worries with winter right around the corner. tara: a frantic search at a ukrainian maternity ward. a newborn killed and another -- in another russian missile strike, one coming after the next, striking people's homes and the country's power grid. these satellite images show the country turning dark over the past eight months of war. mark lives in kyiv and says they get a few hours of electricity everyday. >> the situation right now is very tough. it is hard. i have no idea unfortunately whether they will be able to repair, for example, bring it

in the south bay, san jose city e airport is up about 40% from t thanksgiving. while the increase in passengers is a good sign, aviation has not fully returned to pre-pandemic levels. this year's passenger count is still down 21% compared to thanksgiving 2019, about three months before the covert shutdown. san jose city leaders are considering turning a location into shelters for the homeless. they are looking to convert the surround --cerrone light rail station. it would provide a private room and bathroom, along with supportive services. a boat crashed against rocks saturday morning there alcatraz island.

a man, woman, and three dogs were on the boat when it hit rocks. the san francisco fire department and coast guard responded shortly after. all passengers were safe and the boat was recovered with no danger to the environment. in the north bay, there were dozens of tribute yesterday to the legendary cartoonist who created charlie brown and the rest of the peanuts gang. ♪ charles schultz would have turned 100 years old. the museum named in his honor opened a new exhibit called spark of schultz centennial celebration. his characters are still beloved around the world. more than 75 syndicated cartoonists have tuked tributes and profit -- tucked tributes and references in cartoons.

dry cold front moves through tomorrow. it will bring a quick burst of snow. otherwise today, partly cloudy. then rain likely thursday, friday, and even the weekend looking like we could see another system. we are dried with the passage of the cold front monday, bringing the colder air. temperatures below average for the afternoon. stopping this early thursday as the rain sets up just offshore. the rain moving in thursday continues into friday into southern california, and it looks like another wave of energy stopping us here on saturday. it could hit us into next weekend. this is the forecast model. the american model brings an inch and a half through next saturday, over an inch in san jose. notice that is a southern california event with over one

carless. horton graduated from duke university in 2020. the cincinnati native returned home for six months before accepting a job at a san francisco fintech. her move to the bay area came right at the beginning of the pandemic. >> i was dealing with living in a city with higher prices and rents and all that stuff, but at the same time having it feel very deserted. reporter: she found herself unprepared for making decisions about her money matters, and that scared her. >> i think i was going to miss manage my money and time by moving to a big city and not having a lot of direction. reporter: while at school but their lives would later intersect. shrgh aseminaithis at duke and quickly realized how little they learned about money. >> when you look around the room, everyone is on their phone, not paying attention. no one cared.

clouds and sunshine mixed in. mid-60's for most of us. maybe a few renegade upper 60's, but as we get into the early part of the week we will be tracking some of the coldest weather we have seen in some time. rain, pretty confident it is heading our way. liz: an update on the deadly mass shooting at a virginia walmart. investigators have returned control of the store back to walmart. they found a note of the shooters possible motive. christine sloan has more on what that meeting will entail. reporter: as authorities investigate last week's deadly walmart shooting, the fbi and chesapeake police department have finished their crime scene investigation. the city said the store will be handed back to walmart. in a statement, walmart says it plans to work closely with its

associates to determine the best time to reopen. authorities claim the supervisor who allegedly shot and killed six of his coworkers left a message on his phone titled death note in which he complained about his colleagues. andre bing appeared to be targeting specific employees. >> he know when we were in the break room. reporter: on monday, the chesapeake city council will hold a special meeting to confirm the emergency declaration to free up funding to support the recovery effort. a candlelight vigil will be held to honortims. on thursday, president biden reiterated his call for an assault weapons ban. >> the idea we still allow semiautomatic weapons is sick. just sick. it has no social value. reporter: investigators say the gunman in the walmart shooting used a nine millimeters pistol

that he legally purchased hours before the massacre. police add they recovered the box and receipt for the weapon along with ammunition from inside his home. liz: an alarming incident unfolded on a jetblue flight from new york to salt lake city. a passenger is accused of threatening the woman seated next to him with a razor blade. he was arrested after the flight landed in utah. reporter: a utah man is facing federal assault charges after allegedly bringing a straight edge razor blade on board a jetblue flight and threatening a passenger. >> jetblue reporting they had one male passenger threatening another passenger with a pocket knife. reporter: 41-year-old merrill darrell was in a window seat next to a woman when he placed his hand on her seat and told

her to pause for a movie. he had a razor blade inches from her throat. >> i did not know what he had until afterward. reporter: she said she longed for the aisle and he tried to stop by grabbing her shoulder. her husband alerted flight attendants. a fellow passenger described the scene. >> makes this announcement, you don't have to worry. she is going to be ok. everyone is like what is he doing, taking a hostage? >> pocket knife. reporter: police escorted him off the flight after it landed safely in salt lake city. this comes weeks after a man allegedly brought to box cutters onto a frontier airlines plane. the tsa said it takes our responsibility to secure the skies for the traveling public seriously. the agency says it is introducing new x-ray technology

at more airports to improve the capability to detect items such as the one used in this incident. liz: new york police rescued a man stuck on the subway tracks moments before a train entered the station. you can see a train approaching just seconds after. the two police officials were doing a platform inspection when passengers alerted them a man had fallen onto the tracks. both officers ran upstairs and across the street to get to the other side while bystanders tried to help. the man received medical treatment as he waited for medical officials to arrive and taken to a hospital. a remarkable rescue at sea. a guest on a carnival cruise ship is recovering after falling overboard and managing to tread water for 15 hours. reporter: the dramatic rescue captured on camera. the coast guard spotting the

28-year-old cruise ship passenger with his head barely above the water. frantically waving his arms, hoping to be spotted. >> to be in the middle of the ocean treading water for 15 hours is incredible. reporter: the circumstances around the fall unclear. the carnival cruise ship valor first alerting officials of the possible overboard person. >> we came up with a search plan to cover the ocean looking for the individual we assume had fallen overboard, no lifejacket and no means of keeping himself afloat. reporter: he was spotted by a carrier 20 miles south. >> he showed signs of shock and fatigue and dehydration. they ended up meeting emergency medical services stateside. reporter: in a statement, carnival says the ship retraced
