>> building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions, this is abc 7 news. liz: a gas station convenience store clerk shot in the head in antioch. police say he was likely the victim of a botched robbery. it is sunday, november 27. thanks for joining us. we will get to the top story in a moment, let us start with a look at the weather. it has been chilly. lisa: we are beginning the pattern change, the well advertised pattern change as we round out november. today could be a busy day for returning home for the holiday, we have quiet weather. we will have clouds and patchy fog stick around, here is a 47 degree picture of santa cruz. temperature in the low to mid 60's today. as we look at our exploratorium

camera, there are a few plows. temperatures out of the 30's, typically chilly. 24 hour temperature change two to six degrees colder this morning. there is the fog, and what a view from sutro. it is sunny with high clouds increasing throughout the day, low to mid-60's. warmest day of the week is today. a cold front moves through tomorrow, bringing gusty wind. much colder afternoons in mornings before we track rain. liz: antioch police are looking for two suspects linked to an attempted robbery that turned deadly saturday morning. it happened at the chevron gas station just south of highway 4. residents say they could hear the gunshots and some are angry more is not being done to fight violent crime. we spoke to those who knew the victim. >> this was crazy. reporter: this woman who did not want to be identified said she

heard the gunshots that allegedly killed the employee who worked at the chevron station in antioch. >> i've only been living here since april of this year. but it makes me wonder, did i make a wrong move to even moved antioch? reporter: she says she recently moved from oakland, hoping to find a safer place to raise her kids. >> it is scary. i come to this gas station every day. to find out someone i knew passed away is scary. you have small kids, young children. reporter: the police received a 911 call just after 2:00 a.m. saturday. they arrived, they found us 36-year-old man on the ground who was shot in the head. police believed it was a botched robbery. >> there was surveillance video which captured two male suspects in dark clothing.

they have not yet been apprehended. >> i see him a couple times, talk to him for gas. it is near my house. reporter: he says this is a rough part of town, especially late at night. the area needs more police presence. >> people come in in the night and buy drugs and everything there. reporter: so you think there should be more police presence? >> yes. >> i get scared coming in this part of the neighborhood, so i am not surprised. i am shocked somebody was killed, but not too surprised. reporter: she grew up in antioch yet thinks crime is on the rise. she thinks more police patrol of the area late at night would help residents feel safer. >> i get scared, i get angry that this is happening. nothing is being done. it keeps getting worse. liz: only on seven, nearly

$180,000 of merchandise was stolen from a camera shop in an armed robbery near san francisco's union square. surveillance shows for individuals get out of us today on -- a sedan. it shows a least one suspect with a firearm into the store. one person is holding a tool and you can see the smashed display cases. timestamps showed the suspects returned to the sit-down less than eight -- sedan less than a minute later. the public was assured of additional safety measures for the area. multiple sources say $20,000 in damages were caused by the robbery. anyone with additional information is asked to come forward. a driver is recovering after getting attacked and carjacked friday night. video captured the bus on a wild ride, barreling through the mission district. san francisco police say the suspect boarded at mission street in attacked the driver.

he then got behind the wheel and took off, hitting at least 10 vehicles before coming to a stop at 19th. police arrested the suspect who is said to have minor injuries. the bus was empty the entire time. small business saturday is a day when local business owners remind you to do holiday shopping away from big retailers to support the local economy. how one city in the north bay even made it snow to attract shoppers. reporter: a winter wonderland brought to life on san rafael's 4th street. with a little help from this snowmaking machine. two blocks of downtown were closed to cars on small business saturday, a chance to hang some tinsel and invite shoppers to explore and spend some cash. >> the opportunity to support people who are creating art,

or smallbatch goods that you are not going to find on amazon. you will not find them in a big box store. reporter: signs urging folks to shop local. the mayor says if you do, your dollars could go a long way. but all of these businesses up and down grant are the one that sponsor sports teams, donate to local schools. they are part of our community and give back. these are the businesses we want to be shopping at. liz: small business saturday kicked off yesterday in pacifica. more than 20 local vendors set up tents and tables to attract shoppers. the variety of items were on sale. on the east coast, joe biden was seen in nantucket shopping during small business saturday. on his traditional thanksgiving trip to the island, he visited several local stores and was accompanied by his wife and other family. small business saturday was

biden for the democratic nomination in 2024. he told politico he informed the president and first lady he will not run for the nation's highest office. he also said he has no intention of running should biden not seek a second term. his out of state spending, travel and attacks on the gop have fueled speculation of a 2024 presidential run. today, it is the anniversary of remembering harvey milk and george miss goni, who were both assassinated on this day at city hall in 1978. the 44th anniversary of their deaths will be honored today with a vigil in castro. it will pay tribute to the victims of the recent shooting at club q in colorado springs, were five people were killed. honoring the past and present of the struggle for lgbtq people's rights, that will happen tonight at 7:00 p.m. at harvey milk plaza.

the documentary is available on demand and tells the story of what led up to the murders in 1978, the wild trial and defense. you can download the app wherever you stream. san jose city leaders are considering a plan that would turn two locations into housing for the homeless. the council is scheduled to discuss plans tuesday. they are looking converting the light rail yard anze station. the sites would be temporary and build homes that provide homeless people with private room and bathroom and supportive services to help them find permanent housing. a boat crashed against rocks saturday morning near alcatraz island in san francisco. a man, woman and three dogs were on the boat when it hit rocks. the san francisco fire department and coast guard responded shortly after. all passengers were safe in the boat is recovered with no danger to the environment. in the north bay, there were

dozens of tributes yesterday to the legendary cartoonist who created charlie brown. he would have turned 100 years old on saturday and to celebrate his legacy, the museum named in his honor under exhibit. he passed away 22 years ago, but his characters are still beloved around the world. cartoonists across the nation are celebrating him with their own artwork. more than 75 syndicated cartoonists have made references in saturday comics to offer him. -- honor him. lisa: later on today up in santa rosa, you will probably feel the

the cold front tomorrow assuring in gusty wind, it will be a dry front and temperatures are going to plummet. sierra nevada squeezing out a little dusting of snow, there is the golden gate bridge. partly cloudy this afternoon. cold and frosty mornings tuesday and wednesday. the national weather service probably coming out with a watch, advisory or warning. rain on thursday and friday. the system moves to the east of us, a quick burst of snow in the mountains, stopping early thursday where it is raining and the north bay. looks like an atmospheric river wants to set up in southern california, notice the yellow. we are going to get rain. the models have been wild with the amounts in southern california. still, many days away. looks like a series of systems may follow the one we are tracking for thursday and friday. here is the way it looks so far, over an inch of rain.

looking at some valley rain and snow in the mountains with over two inches, but it is hard to come in line with the details so far out. we will get a better idea of how much rain and snow. for now, two to three feet of snow, southwesterly wind keep it gusty in the mountains. as we look at the highs today, low 60's in oakland area a little bit more sun and the upper 60's. -- in the upper 60's. monday will feel blustery with highs dropping off at least five degrees. tracking the frosty temperatures as we get into tuesday, wednesday and beyond that, the numbers do not recover. we just add some rain. our exclusive storm impacts go bringing the rain in thursday, friday and it could linger right on through the weekend.

she returned home before accepting a job in san francisco. her move to the bay area came right at the beginning of the pandemic. >> i was dealing with living in a city with higher prices and rent and all of that. having it feel deserted. reporter: she found herself unprepared for making decisions about money matters. that scared her. >> i think i was going to miss my money and time by moving to a big city and not getting a lot of direction. reporter: these two never met while in school, but their lives would, years later, intersect. they sat through a financial seminar with his peers at duke and quickly realized how little they knew about money. >> look around the room, everyone is on their phone not paying attention. no one cared. reporter: he thought there had to be a better way to delivering financial information. thus, he came up with an idea.

joining us this morning. rain is on the way in a few days. lisa: very excited about that. before that, a cold front will usher in colder air. there is a hazy look at the golden gate bridge, 51 downtown in palo alto with 50 in the wind. there is a look at the shark tank. partly cloudy skies on the way today, and bid at upper 40's from santa rosa, livermore and napa. 24 hour temperature change pretty significant with a degree to about seven degrees colder. tomorrow, adding gusty northwesterly wind. that will make for a blustery start to the workweek. today, partly cloudy. temperatures cool off a bit, we still see the numbers above average and getting more in line with where we should be this type of year. low 60's and mid-60's to the afternoon today. a couple degrees above average, then back to reality monday

through wednesday. get out the winter coat and umbrella for the end of the week. liz: a live look at san francisco international airport this morning as travelers are on the move after thanksgiving. no destination delays are being reported in archer specific delays -- and departure specific delays are only lasting 15 minutes on average. looking at highway 101 if you are headed out, nice, clear roads at this time. traffic is expected to pick up, we expect to see 49 million people pack up their cars and hit the road. experts say the busiest times to be on the road today is between 11:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.. this is being used as an indicator for how the economy is rebounding from the pandemic. they estimate over 400,000 catchers will travel through san

jose international airport this holiday weekend -- people will travel through san jose international airport this holiday weekend. aviation travel has not fully returned to pre-pandemic levels. this year's passenger count is down nearly 20% compared thanksgiving of 2019 about three months before the covert shutdown. an alarming incident unfolded on a jetblue flight from new york to salt lake city. a passenger is an accused of threatening a woman seated next to him with a razor blade. he was arrested after the flight landed. reporter: you tell me is facing federal assault atr er -sce] reporter: federal prosecutors say he was in a window seat next to a woman when he placed his

hand on her screen and told her to pause or movie. she told police she noticed he had a razor blade inches from her throat. >> i did not know until afterward when i saw the police report that he had a straight edge razor. reporter: she said she longed for the aisle and he tried to stop her by grabbing her shoulder. the person next to her alerted flight attendants. a fellow passenger described the scene. >> makes the announcement of you do not have to worry, she will be ok. everyone is like whoa, what is he doing? what are his intentions? reporter: police escorted him off the flight after it landed safely in salt lake city on monday. the scare comes weeks after a man allegedly brought two box cutters onto a frontier airline plane. in a statement, tsa said it takes responsibilece

eki f traveling p ov capems such ashene inol d m th iident. li new york police rescued a man stuck on the subway tracks moments before a train entered into the station. you can see a train approaching just seconds after. the two police officials were doing a platform inspection when passengers from the opposite side alerted them that a man had fallen onto the tracks. both officers ran upstairs in across the street to get to the other side. bystanders try to help. the man received medical treatment from a third officer as they waited for emergency officials to arrive. he was taken to a hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. a remarkable rescue at sea. a carnival cruise ship is back on solid ground, they are recovering after falling overboard and managing to tread

water for 15 hours. reporter: the dramatic rescue captured on camera. the coast guard spotting the 28-year-old passenger with his head barely bobbing above the water. frantically waving his arms, hoping to be spotted. >> to be in the middle of the ocean, treading water for upwards of 15 hours is edible. reporter: the circumstance -- incredible. reporter: the circumstances are unclear. his sister alerted the ship he did not return to his room the night before. >> we came up with a search plan to systematically cover the ocean looking for the individual who we assumed had fallen overboard with no lifejacket. no way of keeping himself afloat other than treading water. reporter: he was spotted 20 miles south of louisiana. >> she showed signs of shock,

stretching hours, some centers are overflowing with pediatric patients. >> book spots to fill up the day before, so we are seeing the search. reporter: experts say decreased immunity may be one reason for this seasons early and severe spike of child respiratory virus infections. hospitals already overwhelmed with rsv patients say flu cases are rising fast. the cdc reports half of u.s. states are experiencing higher very high like a video. -- flulike activity. new concerns this morning that common flu medications are in high demand. >> we are seeing shortages in some areas of supplies of, antibiotics like amoxicillin, which is a medication, as well as tamiflu and other medicines. reporter: johnson & johnson says

of a museum. we may get a much more complete look at the magnificent tomb. reporter: walking into the exhibit in the museum is a journey of discovery, in more ways than one. without realizing it, these visitors are helping unlock secrets. for thousands of years. discoveries being made now by archaeologist working in the tomb and supported by ticket sales from the exhibition. >> the tomb was clear for the first time. i found out it is the largest tomb in the valley of the kings. reporter: almost 700 feet long, this archaeologist is directing excavations of the two, which was badly damaged by a flood. -- tomb. these pictures show his team at work inside. they are restoring scenes inscribed on the walls. >> for the first time, scenes of

him giving offering, we began to see him showing the sun god in front of him. reporter: there is a tunnel running between his tomb and the tomb of his son. the work is critical and so is support from visitors. he is director and ceo. >> art history and archaeology are ongoing exercises, they are expensive. it feels good we are able to give back to egypt. they are in a very exciting moment. reporter: an entire team of archaeologists working at the site and organizers say the progress is stunning area -- stunning. >> i have a team of almost 30 people restoring, excavating, clearing it for the first time. within two years, this tune can be visited by the people. reporter: adding to the

liz: the stanford head football coach has officially resigned after a disappointing loss to byu saturday. he made the announcement at a press conference after the game last night and said it was a decision he made over the past week. he said he decided it was time. >> there is no final straw, no pushing over the edge. really was less than a week. as i sat before thanksgiving and on thanksgiving, i prayed about it and thought about it, i talked to my wife about it. it was more cemented in my head. it was god's honest truth, that was the phrase that kept coming to me. it is time. liz: he was named the 2017 national coach of the year end is the most wins as a head coach at stanford with 96 wins and 54 losses. stanford says a national search

liz: a piedmont christmas tree returns with its hybrid model to sell trees. it held its opening yesterday, kicking off with a special dancing christmas tree performance. the lot offers a variety of needs including wreaths, garlands. it is the largest fundraiser of the year for scouts. trees can be ordered online or picked up and delivered for an extra fee. the lot will be ordered seven days a week until all trees are sold. when do you get your tree? really close. lisa: i forgot to talk about the minors. upper 60's -- 49ers. upper 60's, sunny. the rest of us enjoy the mid 60's with higher clouds and gusty wind developing. then, a cold couple days for the middle of the week and a return to rain.
