native food waves -- ways. >> diabetes and obesity is hitting indigenous communities at an extraordinary rate. a lot of that has to do with a dislocation from traditional foods. what we are left to do here through our foodways work is focus on the focus of growing of indigenous and heirloom foods. >> reason the persimmons and making work. >> how do we revitalize food that is from this landscape that goes into the -- that helps with the health network of the community? we were honored we were able to grow in source over 10,000 pounds of indigenous foods to the bay area community. >> it is surprising to me that native people control in

california and less than -- less than 1% of the land they had. territories, you were able to secure for then save and acres here with the intention -- seven acres here with the intention of learning more about your culture. >> this is holding land for reconnection. everything from the foods to the sciences of land tending, to the songs, to the language. >> one of the things that happened, during the colonization periods. we lost a lot, so much was lost and destroyed. that made us hold on tighter to what we did have. there are things that we have, like this. we learned it is important to the environment. it has a special place in the world. is the gateway for us to grady

deep relationship -- create a deep relationship with water. that is a. connection that was lost. . one of the dreams that we have is to bring back the salmon. a few years ago we said it was impossible to bring salmon back here. another thing we learned, we are allowed to dream big. >> for the capacity to do that and get hair and it shadow where we want it to be and available as a learning model to all of our communitys. we are in a fundraising campaign. raising $5.5 million in a couple of years. the vision of sustainability is one that is multigenerational. we wanted to be here and available as a place for connection, safety, knowledge sharing for my daughter's, daughter, daughter. as many generations as we can dream forward into the future.
