the north bay now getting hit the hardest this morning. indicating some scattered downpours as well as rain beginning to end of the city and just beginning to push into the east this morning. a five or six hour window starting our we have rain entering the bay area and the winds are certainly arrived as well. close to 26 in sfo, 26 in hayward. the wind will increase at the front continues to move through. it is a level two, a moderate storm with the showers. street flooding is the biggest concern this morning. there's the raindrops. stormy, wet and windy. the afternoon will dry out, then freeze warnings will hit us later on tonight for a very cold night on the way. all about this rain this morning coming up and about eight minutes. >> we are going to start here

with a live look in san rafael. this is the one that is really showing the wettest commute so far for us. this is southbound where you are seeing those taillights. this is the time when we typically see spinouts, especially when it hasn't rained in a while. i had my windshield wipers turned on when i was going across the bay bridge. i'm also starting to see it come down just a little bit at the richmond-san rafael bridge as well. we know that this can certainly escalate so i will keep you posted been those things change this morning. >> the rain has been coming down for a while now in the north bay. want to show you this video of this heavy rain just hitting the downtown area. gloria, what does it look like out there? gloria: right now, not too bad. we did see some sprinkling

earlier, very light rain. we want to take you right outside so you can see how it is looking right now. right now we are at i-80. earlier, we did see some light rain. one thing that i saw when i was driving up here, i saw a track on the road earlier. it is windy out there. pay very close attention to the road. of course, conditions are expected to worsen later on today. give yourself plenty of time to get where you need to go. some of us could have some time without power. kumasi: we are having a little trouble hearing her audio but we do want to show you what it looks like right now. a live look there so you can just get a sense of what is going on right there because

there is a winter storm warning in effect right now. the storm is expected to dump into the mountains and maybe even more on the peaks. on top of the snow, the winds are likely going to be picking up which will make for some treacherous conditions. >> especially -- expecting gusting over 75 miles per hour which means realistically, white out conditions. any type of non-essential travel should be avoided. that being said, friday might be a better day to come. kumasi: another storm is expected over the weekend and i could bring at least another foot of snow to the mountains. at the storm is making its way across the area, make sure you have real-time weather forecast to plan your day and the week ahead, the weekend, everything. the news that tracks conditions to your neighborhood. when you downloaded, make sure you enable your push

notifications. reggie: the senate could vote today on a bill that would force a railroad worker label deal. >> passing this legislation and getting it to president biden is really a last ditch effort to avoid a strike and i could have a major impact on the economy. we've been telling people this for days now. democrats in favor but most republicans oppose. it would force rail workers into a label contract that was tentatively approved back in september, but give them the paid sick time that they were demanding. in the senate, republicans are already signaling they are not on board. >> the president has dumped it on us and said i want you to intervene, i want you to fix this and in doing so, i want you to screw the workers. i'm sorry, i am not bambi's baby brother here. >> many of my friends on the other side of the aisle after the republican party into the

party of no. no plans, no ideas. >> diff no deal is reached by the unions or forced by congress, railroad workers have indicated they would begin striking as soon as next friday. a shutdown could cost the economy up to $2 billion per day, disrupt travel for millions and sent inflation even higher than it already is. kumasi: there is some shocking video out of san jose. >> this is hilarious. >> my goodness. the woman who took this video says she was driving through san jose yesterday morning and saw this. this is a man riding on the outside of a train. she tells us that the man even noticed that they were recording him. >> we ended up getting a little closer to him. he looked at us, he smiled and waved and went off.

something is going on back here. it looks like he noticed something was back there. >> they are apparently aware of this. they went on social media letting people know that this is not only dangerous, but it is illegal and that are investigating this. reggie: time is running out for victims of childhood sexual abuse by clergy or other leaders to come over. a 2019 state law created a three year window for people to pour the abuse even if the statute of limitations had run out. that law is set to expire at the end of the year. >> if the child was exposed to a sexual offender in an institutional environment like the catholic church or the boy scouts or really any serving organization, he or she has a once-in-a-lifetime chance to

bring that claim. reggie: people who go forward and remain a lot of -- anonymous. the law also allows them to suit their individual offender in whatever organization the offender part. kumasi: prosecutors need more time to gather evidence in the case of the man accused of attacking paul pelosi. the man charged in the attack reportedly was in court. he faces a large list of charges stemming from the october 28 incident at nancy pelosi's home. he is accused of breaking in, demanding to see the speaker and then attacking her has no with a hammer. his next federal hearing is set for february 8. reggie: new developments in the effort to bring down gas prices. governor newsom is calling a special session of the state lawmaker -- he wants legislation to allow oil companies to be hit with price gouging penalty. also asking for more oversight.

that session is scheduled to start monday. meanwhile, gas prices are continuing to go down. the average price is five dollars per gallon. oakland and san jose both drop under the five dollar mark for the first time in months. >> we will take a look at walnut creek this morning were the rains arrived and part of the east bay. we are just at the beginning of the storm with the rain really ramping up over the next couple of hours and certainly, the wings are with us as well. live doppler 7, the bulk of the moisture is in the north bay. pops of yellow right now, those are the scattered downpours. certainly it is wet in this region. showers beginning to enter the city right now, just beginning across the golden gate right here. even around oakland, we are mainly dry in the south bay. we expect the rain to fill in

>> we are on storm watch this morning and we want to show you a live look outside right now. you can see some of the droplets on that camera but it seems like most people are moving along the roadways pretty good right now. of course, drew and jobina will keep you updated as far as how this is going to hit your neighborhood and the traffic conditions. there are some new developments in a battle over covid finds. the california south bay has denied an appeal to reinstate $217,000 in fines against the san jose church. the chapel was repeatedly fined for violent new by hosting large, mask-free indoor services in 2020. a separate lawsuit seeking $3 million in penalties against the church is moving forward. reggie: a napa dr. will spend nearly three years in prison for selling fake covid vaccination

cards. she pleaded guilty last year in federal court to one count of fraud and one count of making false statements. federal prosecutors say she sulfate vaccine cards to at least 200 people. according to the press, she was ordered to surrender to the bureau of prisons by january 6. kumasi: a big day for president biden and president emmanuel macron. the president tweeted this photo of him, the first lady and macron with the caption "welcoming some friends to town." they will hold a joint press conference and the macrons will then join president biden and first lady for their first state dinner. a live one-on-one starting at 7:00 a.m. right after abc 7 mornings. the prince and princess of wales are waking up in boston this morning. the couple sat courtside during the game. today, they will be visiting a climate tech startup and the nonprofit focused on reducing

violence. it culminates with the earth shot award ceremony tomorrow. this is their first trip to the u.s. in eight years. reggie: a comedian living in new york city issuing that you don't always need a lot of money to make it in the city that never sleeps. kumasi: he has been living for almost a month on $100. here's originally from southern california and moved to new york and fell on some hard times but that inspired the challenge which is to live off $100 for a week. >> a string of bad financial decisions is what got me to $100. i had $139 left in my bank account and i wasn't getting paid for two weeks so i thought let me just spend $100 per week. kumasi: he made his own coffee and it was delicious. he found a bag of oatmeal in his van. he said he spent -- oh. so he made it through one week,

we're going to see rain, wind. a stormy morning out there. stormy for the morning commute. behind the storm system, some of this air say are this season. another storm moving in here for this upcoming weekend. storm concerns very high. minor flooding on the roadways at this friend move through that will bring about periods of heavy rain. we will want smaller streams for any flooding right now. talking about an inch of rain possible in some of the heavier spots. here is the future rather. you see this line of peer and bright colors, that is the cold front, anticipating some heavy rain moving through this morning across oakland, san francisco, in peninsula. later on, you can see the bulk of the moisture south of the golden gate.

reggie: today is world aids day. each year, the national memorial highlights the continuing struggles to end the epidemic. the progress has been made and hope for the future. and in person observance returns in san francisco. more than 500 people are expected to attend including john cunningham. moderating a couple of conversations on topics and how young leaders are making an impact. i feel extremely lucky that i do not have to live in an era where i am losing friends left and right, where i am walking down castro street ma friends are still here, but i recognize that that is not the case for people who are just a few years older than me. and when i see all these panels that are behind you, i understand that there are a lot of people who live in our community who know so many names on that quilt and for whom this is an extremely personal

gusting close to 40 miles per hour. all of the moisture you see off the coast, this will all move on sure of the morning goes on, as we have several more hours where this rain is going to move through. in the north bay, we will suman in a little bit closer. these pops of yellow and orange, that is where we have the heaviest rain first thing this morning. gusting close to 35 miles per hour this morning. that wind out of the sound will continue to increase at the morning goes on. moderate storm this morning with three periods of heavy rain. the biggest concern, street flooding at the morning view gets underway. showing you rain on the lens, raid on the -- rain on the roadway. into the afternoon, we start to dry out.

cold air moves and in freeze warnings take hold of us later on tonight. we will go hour-by-hour in a few minutes, but let's check in with jobina with the traffic. jobina: ihahisiv picture but that is because i really want to talk to you about the roadways. you are at risk of spinouts this morning, especially with the combination of the wind and rain. walnut creek looking live, we did see some droplets fall on the camera. it does look like it has cleaned up just a bit. it is expected to get worse this morning and also seeing it get a little wet at the bay toll plaza. everybody should expect at least tenant delays systemwide due to the wet weather conditions. just be aware of those slippery platforms as well. reggie: if you can work from home today, use that often. taking a live look from the camera, roads across the bay area now starting to get pretty

wet, and it is only going to get worse. gloria rodriguez checking the conditions out there. is it raining yet where you are? >> it is now raining. we saw you in the last half hour and we just saw some light sprinkles at this time, but the rain is starting to come down right now, so this event live look right now on the roads. we just got to the san rafael bridge you can see the rain is coming down. still pretty light but of course, conditions are supposed to worsen a little bit later on today. make sure you give yourself plenty of extra time to get to wherever you need to go today. the other thing we want to just remind you about, pg&e says that many of us could spend some time without power. a spokesperson saying that 40,000 customers could be affected across the greater bay area, so you just want to be prepared in case. another thing that i saw when i was driving this morning, i saw

the pieces into that picture. and it takes time. >> initially, police said there was no imminent threat to the community but later changed the messaging. investigators say one of the victims made several comments friends and family about a possible stalker. police say detectives are looking into that possibility as well. reggie: the contractors working to build a suicide prevention net on the golden gate bridge said the project is going to cost more than twice the original price. according to court documents, the contractor says flaunt designs, mismanagement, and a lack of transparency are causing costs to balloon. the original price tag is $142 million. the new one, according to the documents, $400 million. one major issue, construction crews were not informed about deterioration of platforms. a district spokesperson denies that. kumasi: container store is reportedly going to be the next retailer to move out of union

square. according to the san francisco business times, the company will close in square location and move to a smaller space. it is not clear exactly when the store is planning to relocate. doordash is adding to the tech layoffs in the bay area. the company says they will lay off more than 1200 corporate employees and that is about 6% of staff. doordash says recent inflation has significantly lowered demand. shares have gone down more than 60% this year. other companies also made major staff cuts this year. >> looks like the four day workweek experiment is a success. a survey done by a nonprofit find the four-day workweeks are good for business. a nonprofit along with researchers surveyed companies over six months in the u.s. and ireland. without a deduction in pay, employees felt less stressed, less fatigued, and were more focused. the average revenue actually

you can see just how much snow is now falling. and we are going to get feet of snow. we will be checking with drew throughout the morning about the snow here and the rain. but islamabad is the focus at malala on hawaii's big island -- but it is lava that is the focus in hawaii. they are approaching a flat area and will begin to slow down, spread out and in late. it could take a couple of days for the lava to reach the highway. it erupted sunday night, the first time that has happened in nearly 40 years. state officials are encouraging people to keep travel plans to visit the big island. kumasi: the federal reserve is slowing down its key interest rate hikes, but will continue the incremental increases for extended period. the fed still fighting against record inflationnt nticipa pace not seen since they

1980's. the fed chairman's as interest rates will likely be held at a restrictive level for some time. reggie: new details on the ash from the flareups last week. public health officials say the dust bedfellow the area started thanksgiving evening and contain higher than normal amounts of heavy metals like aluminum, lead, copper, and zinc. >> exposure to high concentrations of these metals over a long time can cause health problems. exposure during a single event like this would be unlikely to cause any major health problems. reggie: officials say the investigation into the incident which wasn't reported to the county for two days is just beginning. they say it will be held responsible for any laws and regulations effective. officials expect any remaining dust to be washed away during today's storm and they encourage people to avoid contact unless they are wearing gloves or n95 mask.
