to treat at keytruda.com, and ask your doctor if keytruda can be part of your story. >> building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions. this is abc 7 news. drew: overnight, a shooting at a pleasant hill pizza spot sends one employee to the hospital. suspect now in custody. more rain and cold weather across the bay area today. it has been quite the weather roller coaster the past few days and it is going to continue through the weekend. liz: good morning. let's start with a look at the weather. it is good news we are getting that rain. lisa: if you wanted to get your tree or out for a bike ride, you may have missed that opportunity. even though the moisture is to the south of us, you will get light rain, mist and drizzle in the bay area. we will focus on the peninsula and around the santa cruz

mountains. like rain showers over into the east bay and will continue to increase throughout the morning. 45 in belmont. concord is at 43. milder anywhere from 10 to 14 degrees. level one today and tomorrow on our exclusive storm impact scale. three quarters of an inch to two inches. as we look at -- that is not the right day planner. we are looking at rainfall totals in excess of two inches in spots. we will talk about that and plot out the numbers for you in a few minutes. liz: thank you. developing news out of pleasant hill, at least one person shot last night outside of a pizza restaurant. there was heavy police presence at the scene. it happened at pizza my way at the intersection of contra costa boulevard in ellenwood drive. according to law enforcement,

the shooting happened around 8:15 last night inside the restaurant between an employee and some of the employee knows. that dispute spilled out of the restaurant and the suspect shot the employee three times. the employee was sent to the hospital. his condition now is not known. the suspect was arrested. he was taken to a hospital for a unrelated medical issue. police are currently investigating and they have not said what may have led to the dispute. on the peninsula this morning, more about the bus crash in daly city yesterday afternoon. four people hurt. at least one of them critically after a sam trans bus driver lost control and plowed through a parking lot at the star monty's center. more than a dozen cars were total. amanda del castillo you reports from daly city. >> there just was chaos, it was complete chaos. >> 16 vehicles hit by a sam trans bus driver in the middle of the day friday sending for people to the hospital.

one critically injured. this happened at sarah monty shopping center in daily center. sky 7 captured the path of destruction. the cause is under investigation. >> it definitely raises a lot of concerns, especially this day and age. you never know with people hijacking police transportation. reporter: gina and her mother arrived minutes after the bus driver tore through bushes, crushed a cart and came to a stop near target. one of the 16 damaged vehicles belonged to san francisco resident lisa. >> i was shopping in target, came out and found my car totaled. maybe like four or five rows where i left it parked. reporter: sam trans confirmed multiple passengers were on the bus. the agency telling abc 7 news in part, it working with authorities and actively working into the cause of this incident. >> there is video of the driver.

there is video outside. cannot jump to any conclusions. reporter: according to sam trans, at least two people remained hospitalized. their injuries appear to be life -- non-life-threatening. in the aftermath of the crash, maryland's cousin's car. >> we thought it was a regular accident. we looked at the car and i said, oh my god. we got hit. reporter: with the busy holiday shopping season underway, supervisor -- says the outcome could have been worse. many are left wondering what safety improvements should be made at ceremony. >> i am curious as a policymaker in representing this district, what went wrong and how do you make sure that it never happens again. liz: in the north bay, the roman catholic diocese of santa rosa declares -- the diocese says it

made a decision due to a growing number of lawsuits. a california law passed in 2019 lifted the statute of limitations on clergy abuse for a three year window. january 1, 2020, until the end of this year. jury deliberations have started in the trial of disgraced hollywood producer harvey weinstein. he faces seven charges of rape and sexual assault in california. the trial included weeks of emotional testimony from multiple women, including our state's first partner jennifer siegel newsom. weinstein was convicted on similar charges in new york in 2020. he served two years of his 23 year prison sentence. in the east bay contra costa county prosecutors explaining why the armed gunmen and a deadly robbery and homicide will not face murder charges. that robbery happened at a gas station in antioch last weekend. the store clerk was killed during the incident. the das office says surveillance footage shows the clerk, james

williams, chase after the suspects and williams fired first. they say that turn of events takes murder charges off the table. >>hee minent threat of harm to one's life has dissat of a property time under the law cannot then use deadly force to attempt to reclaim that property. liz: gunfire from the clerk hit one of the suspects. 19-year-old ronald jackson, in the leg. jackson allegedly returned fire, which ultimately killed williams. jackson could face up to 15 years behind bars. the second suspect has not been caught. every vote counts. that is very apparent in richmond, where the race for a city council seat has been declared a tie. abc 7 news reporter suzanne explain's what happens next. >> this now is up to chance. >> i think it is insane. put in a lot of time, energy and money into their race for richmond city council district too. now because of a tie, it comes down to a game of chance. >> throughout history in the country, it has often been decided by bizarre ways, included rolling die, playing poker, coin toss. it is surreal. reporter: contra costa election officials recounted the votes by hand to be sure. both candidates for the richmond city council race received 900 21 -- boasts and goes to a tiebreaker. >> 1921 votes. reporter: what are the odds it ended in a tie? the next step, the richmond city clerk will conduct a tiebreaker, possibly sometime next week. >> we put our names into a green envelope. we put it in a bag. we each shake the bad. the city clerk would draw the

envelope and open it, that would be the winner. reporter: both candidates have a good sense of humor. >> i was telling him we should race for this campaign. we should do a quick race. >> do a dance off or something like that, a bit off the wall that would go down in the history books. reporter: they recognize the importance of voting. >> i'm excited to see democracy come to life. when people usually say, my vote is not matter, they can literally see their vote matter. it is wild. in some ways, it is interesting and exciting to be a part of it. there is history being made here. it is incredibly nerve-racking. liz: what are the chances? the last time there was a tie in contra costa county wasn't 2017 -- was in 2017. the tie was broken with a roll of the dice.

developing news in hawaii, lava from the mauna loa volcano is a week away from reaching the big road on the big island. officials say one fissure of the volcano is still active. crews have reported there isn't any more activity at the summit. geologists say the lava is moving slowly and is about 2.7 miles from the road. officials have opened a public viewing area for the growing crowds checking out the volcano. pretty wild images. lisa: exciting. back home, exciting with the rain. a look at the golden gate ridge. we can see the raindrops on the lens. most activity south of the north bay, but it is setting up to be a soggy saturday. sunday is looking brighter, but we have rain monday and a few more days next week. stay tuned, my weather forecast is next. liz: a big reveal. the newest stealth bomber, capability shrouded in secrecy. what we know about this slick aircraft. a bay area nonprofit launching a

quiet at the airport right now, but what on the ground. soggy start to this morning. a bay area nonprofit has its sights set on helping rid ukraine of countless landmines. the deadly devices cover large swaths of the country and as abc 7 news reporter karen campbell reports, the start of this massive mission kicked off this week with an inspiring event in why country. reporter: as the battle in ukraine continues, efforts underway in napa to help rid the embattled country of countless landmines. >> this is an anti-personnel landmine. reporter: heidi is the founder and ceo of roots of peace. the nonprofit has removed millions of landmines worldwide. and planted more than 6 million fruit trees, planning to add to that in ukraine. >> may we turn minds to vines, replace the scorch of landmines with vineyards in ukraine. this is a call to action.

reporter: roots to peace will be taking action, near the baltic sea. demetra is consul general for ukraine in san francisco. he says landmines are threatening the country's agricultural production, including vineyards. >> the one production stopped. the wine producer could not access their wineries because they were covered in vines. >> we were committed when the snow thaws to begin the de-mining of that land and the planting of the roots of peace on earth. reporter: gergen chills state is committed to the call. the winery has been supporting roots of peace for decades. hosting writings fundraising event is one of its ways. >> in any way any of us can do to help promote peace in the world, we should do it. agriculture is a huge way to do that. reporter: daniel is certainly doing his part to promote peace. >> my name is daniel.

i am from israel. i was injured by a landmine when i was 11 years old. reporter: daniel lost part of his right leg while playing in the snow with his sister. >> i could hear my sister screaming. and try to stand up. but fell in incredible pain and fell back down. reporter: daniels road to recovery started after, and so did his relationship with roots in peace teaming up to raise awareness, even making a stop at the studio showing off his new prostatic. more than a decade later, daniel is back in the bay area bringing his message. >> it is important for me to give back to society. as much as i can. if we all do that, the world would be much better place. palmdale. the air force has revealed its new be 21 raters stealth bomber after years of secrecy about the aircraft. few details have been revealed about the sixth generation stealth fighter, which will replace the b-2 spirit and the d2 lancer bombers. six b-2 21 raters are in production with more planned. the bombers are able to carry nuclear weapons or bombs. the cost for each aircraft is estimated around $7 million. a holiday tradition returns to the bay area this weekend. caltrans holiday train is ready to spread cheer to holidays -- two families. the train starts in san francisco and makes stops at four stations along the peninsula and into the south bay. the salvation army band will be among the performers and you can see santa and mrs. claus. if you are headed to the holiday train, you are asked to bring a new toy to donate. >> this is an opportunity for people to support us and help

kids wake up on christmas day or hanukkah or whatever they are celebrating and be able to have a wonderful time. liz: caltrans says they rain forecast for this week and will not deter the holiday train. san francisco will be glowing for the next week. ♪ liz: last night kicked off the celebration for the art installation let's glow sf. mayor london breed was downtown for the festivities. officials say it is america's largest holiday projection and aims to bring foot traffic back to the financial district. you can see different shows at five different locations from 5:00 to 10:00 every night through next sunday. hopefully, they rain doesn't stop that. pretty cool. lisa: it is december. you would expect rain. it has been a long time since we have gotten our usual amount of precip. we are catching up slowly. we have more rain, the rain is today today. scattered showers tomorrow. i think the niners will get in that game, no problem. into monday, more rain.

as we look at live doppler 7, the instability, the moisture, the stationary front is to the south of us. that is going to move through today and that curly cue up to the north and west is going to move in overnight into sunday and linger into monday. it is a three-day event. the activity is going to get quite intense south of monterey. the mountains could pick up two. codicp two unins.n the sa rewasenport pescaro are getting rain. on the peninsula into the east bay, fremont, oakland, even in the north way, light showers. we are looking at this to continue and intensify throughout the day today. 45 in san leandro. hey little fog in pacifica. coolest number in santa rosa, clear sky. now, you are clouding over at 37. 10 to 13 degrees milder this morning. rainy san francisco. the rain feels in this morning.

even into the 2:00 hour, the peninsula and south bay, you are above average for rainfall total. below average for the north bay. you are looking at through monday, a good inch for the peninsula. redwood city through mountain view, eastward into the san ramon valley. in the north they, still respectable. three quarters of an inch, nearly an inch for santa rosa. winter storm warning through 4:00 on monday morning. still levels starting high, and then lowering. about 7000 feet down to lake levels, that is why the amounts here are really arranging big time. at lake level and around lake tahoe in general, about a foot to a foot and half about 7000 feet, we could see more of that as the heavy snow gets going first and then the lighter snow for sunday and monday. highs today, it is chilly. hopefully, we make it to 50. i will say upper 40's, low 50's. level 1 system.

more on christian pulisic's return. the team goes head-to-head with a netherlands. get ready, it is coming up on gma. liz: effort has been announced in the south bay to stop cyber bullying, focusing on social media companies to do more. zach fuentes explains how those companies and school leaders would be involved. reporter: school leaders and law enforcement came together at east palo alto academy calling for more action to combat the growing third of cyber bullying across the state and country. >> social media has made it impossible to escape bullying. it is a 24 hour warfare. reporter: students were hit especially hard last year when a burn book circulated, that is a form for others to say cool things about people's experience ash peoples back on. >> eight times, we were terrorized. eight times. someone's child was not allowed

to come to school because they felt unsafe. reporter: these -- the district doesn't know who is behind the page but if called on leaders to help them moving forward. >> working on legislation to hold social media companies accountable with easily accessible tools that allow parents and school leaders to have cyber bullying removed from social media platforms. reporter: we reached out to tiktok, metta and metta said they couldn't comment on the proposed legislation but did direct us to background on how they removed cyber bullying from its platforms. >> the longer this material is up, the more damage is done. what we also heard is when these companies were small, the material would come down were quickly. generally, within 24 hours. now, it can be days, weeks, longer. reporter: -- says other tech companies have proven they can moderate their platforms in real

tame -- real time. >> other platforms like doordash, they have options where you can talk to someone right away. when we look at the social media we are not the customers. reporter: the hope is better partnership can be fostered as easily and effectively as possible, and they will listen and work with us on a solution that maybe we do not lead legislation. liz: still to come, a promise by elon musk to clean up the hate. a look at the trends on twitter since he took over. ♪

liz: a look at our economy now. the most recent bob support was better than expected. it showed an increase in the number of jobs this bite a wave of layoffs, including in the bay area tech center. the report showed an increase in average hourly earnings. >> even though we have seen wages skyrocket upward in our data, people are not feeling that on the street. they are not feeling that when they go to the grocery store. it is like a wage increase with no reward. liz: bad news for investors, higher wages at the higher inflation and brings back fears the federal reserve might feel pressure to raise interest rates again. yesterday, president biden signed the rail agreement into law averting a strike that could have started next week. one sticking point that was not part of legislation was paid sick leave for rail workers. the house passed the sick leave measure, but yelled in the senate. the president says he will go back to the table to get sick leave covered, not just for rail

workers, but for all workers. after elon musk came into twitter headquarters five weeks ago, he promised he would clean up hatred on social media. has he cleaned up the platform? experts say by firing key people, musk has opened the door to more hate speech on the platform than before. dustin dorsey takes a look at the statistics. reporter: old issues can often open new wounds. hate directed toward the african-american community is nothing new for reverend lori oh once, but how easily it can be spread on social media is troubling. >> what this speech does is not just attack those disenfranchised groups, it attacks america. it is not sust happening, but what it is going to do is insight reporter: even more. reporter:what began as a platform for information and entertainment, social media has devolved into a place where meanness and hate can thrive.

a new report shows the most egregious hate speech targeting african americans, jewish and lgbtq communities has risen dramatically on twitter since musk out the company. >> in reality, what he did was open the gates to hell and allow back and all those people that spread hateful rhetoric and put up the bat signal and say, you know what, people can get away with whatever they want because my platform is going to tolerate the un-tolerable. reporter: the numbers the center for accounting hate found -- that story. slurs for black americans are up to 3870 six tweets. slurs against gay men before musk, 2506 tweets. after, 3900 54 tweets. antisemitic tweets up 61% on an average daily basis. san jose state professor matt cavett's says frech shld be, cthate has its limi musk is being tested at ths

point reporter: reporter: on this principle. musk stands firm hateful impressions are down. suspending -- cavett says the hate speech must be controlled or musk risks losing advertisers for the platform. >> he has decimated the teams doing this before. what he realizes now is he needs those people back in order to moderate that content. reporter: if not, there could be greater consequences. the santa clara -- santa clara county district attorney's office says they would take action to stop hate speech next week. liz: today on the peninsula, san mateo county hosting at synonymous gun buyback event. law enforcement will be at skyway road from 10:00 until 2:00 this afternoon collecting and purchasing all types of guns, no questions asked. the effort is to reduce the amount of firearms in the community. events in the past saw the return of nearly 400 firearms,

seven -- 700 assault weapons and 12 ghost guns. this coming tuesday, the house of representatives expected to pass the respect for marriage act. yesterday, san francisco's historic role in paving the way for the act was recognized. as leanne melendez tells us, the threat of overturning the law still remains. reporter: officiating and union between two women was a symbolic act for senator alex padilla. [applause] reporter: nearly 19 years ago, the first marriages between same-sex couples at san francisco city hall set off a crusade that this week led the u.s. senate to pass the respect for marriage act. >> it is not lost on me where we gather today. it is intentional in a city known for not just tolerance, but love. reporter: in 2015, the u.s. supreme court ruled same-sex couples have a fundamental right

to marriage in all states. the most recent respect for marriage act would protect couples on a federal level. but, if the more conservative supreme court were to overturn the right of same-sex couples to marry, anyone could bring aped-sexhiythe, itate's constitution despite court's ruling it unconstitutional. >> we would doubtless then have more litigation about whether prop 8 could be enforced. as a sort of like a zombie amendment come back to life. reporter: there is a way to remove it from the state constitution. >> once voters put prop 8 into the california constitution, it stays there on the books until the people take it out. reporter: karen strauss and ruth bornstein were the plaintiffs that challenged prop 8 before the california supreme court and juan. >> i leave it to the political
