>> a full weekend of storms, and we aren't done yet. from the snow in the sierra to downed trees and shut down highway one, more on and off wet weather is on its way. good evening, i am j.r. stone, you are watching abc seven news at 11:00. it could be another -- francis is here to break it all down. francis: it looks like we have a good wave hitting us right during the morning commute. i want to show you live doppler 7. you see the storm still looping, it will continue to bring us showers all the way in to tuesday morning. it is also bringing us a chance of lightning and thunder. you can see some us right now. light rain falling off the coast of the north bay. it is a one out of five. off on showers, an additional

0.1 of an inch. that is because of the spotty nature and scattered nature of the showers. and, slight chance of lightning. here is how it plays out over the next few hours you would you will notice 5:30 tomorrow morning, we will see some heavier rain moved through the north bay and even some areas of red. through the santa cruz martins -- mountains. spotty showers throughout the day and another push towards the evening before the system finally exit tuesday morning. rain totals for your neighborhood and the complete very wet seven-day forecast coming up. j.r.: the day started with downpours in the north bay. they made driving challenging in san rafael this morning. as the day progressed, dark storm clouds moved across the horizon and brought more rain not far from the winterfest community celebration in mill valley. organizers chose to postpone the parade of lights to -- rain.

the last time they have the plane because of covid, -- this weekend was supposed to mark the return. >> we are trying to get this amazing parade going and then we have to wait two more weeks. we waited two years. j.r.: kernville's parade of lights has been rescheduled for december 17. rainsoaked soil gave way along a stretch of highway one, causing a rockslide by big sur. the highway is now closed in both directions. you can see on this map from big sur south to ragged point. caltrans says there is no estimated time on when the road will reopen. highway one is still open further north between carmel and excerpt. these storms we have experienced have dumped more than a 10 inches of snow at donner pass in the sierra. all of this in the last 24 hours. it is making for some treacherous driving conditions. the chp in truckee treated this video today.

they urge people to slow down when driving through the sierra. more snowfall is expected tomorrow, chains are currently required on both i 80 and highway 50 in the tahoe area. as you wake up this way, be sure to watch us on and online tomorrow morning starting at five for the latest rain in your area. they will be on top of the forecast and road conditions for your morning commute. new developments this evening, paul pelosi just made his first public appearance tonight after he was hospitalized from the violent break in at the san francisco home. at the bottom right of this video from tonight's kennedy center honors in washington dc, you can see paul in a black hat next to house speaker nancy pelosi in a gold dress. paul pelosi also had a black glove on. you may remember, he was hit in the head with a hammer during the attack in late october. he also had serious injuries to his right arm and hands.

it took president biden a few months to recognize it was paul next to nancy, but when he did, he throws a fist pump in the air. morning developments tonight in a controversial plan to allow the san francisco police robots to use lethal force in some cases. san francisco supervisor dean preston now says last week's vote in favor of the plan was not legal. in aim letter to mayor london breed today, he cites a provision that requires at least 30 days of notice before any public hearing is held on military equipment. preston says this proposal was added to sfpd's website just three days before it was presented. preston was one of three supervisors who voted against last week's proposal. a second final vote is scheduled for tuesday. part of our work in building a better bay area is focusing on what it takes to keep you and your family healthy.

tonight, covid cases are again seeing winter upticks as rsv and the flu are already filling hospitals. abc7news reporter got some perspective for this upcoming holiday week. reporter: across california, covid cases are on the rise. los angeles county hospitals are on the brink. a miss mandate looming. in san francisco, hospitalizations nearly doubling in a month. ucsf gandhi says that is just one of the viruses to be worried about. >> right now we have three pathogens that are really circulating. rsv, influenza, and covid. reporter: the doctor says while hospitalizations are up, the number of covid patients in the icu is down. >> those who are vacuuming -- vaccinated and boosted, we are not seeing the severe disease. we are not seeing people in the hospital with severe covid. reporter: the biggest threat

this holiday season is the flu. just 50% of those eligible have been vaccinated against it. >> i want people to please get that influenza vaccine, i think that will influence what happens over the christmas season. reporter: as far as holiday travel and gatherings, the doctor says take all precautions. >> wash your hands, do this kind of hygiene when you are coughing and sneezing. reporter: she says masking still matters. >> there are certain types of masks that are fit and filtered. those really protect us against pathogens in indoor credit spaces. reporter: kate woodward is mask of. >> any chance i will be in a building or high volume of people, i will mask up. reporter: her friend is visiting from hawaii, and he says, he is comfortable flying. >> i am generally ok with it as

long as i have a mask and i maintain my distance. reporter: remember, it is not just about covid. for the youngest among us, rsv is also a concern. and for the older, watch out for the flu. >> if you are over 65, please get a higher dose of the influenza shot. they do look like they match our strains and they are working. j.r.: a new group of state lawmakers will be sworn in tomorrow. at the top of their to do list, addressing legislation that could bring down california gas prices. governor newsom has called for a special session of the state legislature. he is pushing for lawmakers to approve a price gouging penalty for oil companies. he is also asking for more oversight to look at cost, profits, and pricing. gus pricing in the bay area's three biggest cities are actually down significantly compared to a week ago.

j.r.: knew details tonight in a story we have been following from the very beginning. the family of a chevron gas station worker now talking about their loved one who was shot and killed on the night shift. 36-year-old james williams died last weekend following an armed robbery at the chevron. abc7news reporter spoke with his family. >> he was trying to do so good, he was trying to be on the right path. he was going to get married, everything. reporter: everything changed for her family after she got the call that her fiancé james williams was killed following an armed robbery at the chevron gas station in antioch. >> we have to bury him around

christmas, his kids will never get to spend that with him. reporter: he was working the overnight shift when he was robbed at gunpoint. the contra costa county district attorney's office says surveillance footage says that after the suspects took off on foot, williams grabbed a gun and raced after them. williams fired first, hitting the suspect to police identified as 19-year-old ronald jackson. he allegedly then returned fire which police say ultimately killed williams. >> he was at work even though -- they went in his store when he was on the clock and did not, that is wrong. reporter: deputy da's says they considered all possible scenarios, but because williams chased after the suspect with a firearm, at that point, in the eyes of the law, he says it was no longer self-defense and the suspect won't be charged with murder. >> technically when you commit a robbery, it is not over until you reach a place of safety. the robbers haven't after this time. the analysis is not now they are

under a deadly attack when such an was not legally justified. reporter: overton says her fiancé was a good man, a father who worked hard to provide for her and his three daughters. as she sits with the newborn on her lap, she is reminded that her daughter will never know her father. they are not happy that anybody got shot, but they still believe williams acted in self-defense. >> we don't like the situation, we have to deal with it. he felt rejecting himself read who knows if he came in there the next day and robbed them again and this time shot him -- reporter: only one of the two suspects has been caught. he could face up to 15 years in prison. the das office says that given the fact williams was killed, they will see greater penalties. j.r.: iran says its countries mandatory hijab law is now under review. the wearing of a hijab in public

is currently required for iranian women under strict islamic law. it is enforced by the countries's so-called morality police. we have seen worldwide protests in recent months over the head covering laws after the death of 22-year-old mahsa amini. she died in police custody after being apprehended by the morality police, allegedly, for not wearing her hijab properly. some iranians are skeptical of today's announcement. they say it is only one small step forward. >> the point is that iranian people have passed that. from day one, they said these scarf is not the whole thing. we want the whole regime to be gone. j.r.: the attorney general says the country's feared morality police have been abolished, but state media has not yet confirmed that. back to our winter storm watch, and just to give you an idea of

the conditions in the sierra right now, take a look at the scene today. roads blanketed in snow with slushy mixes all over the tahoe area. winter storm. -- in effect has been extended to tomorrow afternoon. our unpredictable weather created this rainbow spotted this morning. parts of the north bay got hit with some of the heaviest rain today and into the evening, but always wonderful when you have a rainbow. i am joined by francis, what a system that is pushing, and more to come? francis: we will continue to see waves of rain and isolated showers into tuesday morning. there is a look at live doppler 7. some of the light rain is making its way to parts of the north bay, snow, we are getting more snow in the sierra. temperatures are starting to drop in the mid 40's for my parts of the north bay. then we are seeing lots of low

50's around the bay area. i've view from our rooftop looking towards the embarcadero, beautiful bay bridge. we have off and on showers all the way through tuesday morning. then it will be chilly wednesday morning, but we have a dry day all day wednesday. get ready, another storm is heading our way, it arrives on thursday. maybe in the afternoon or a, and possibly continues all the way through next weekend. there is the forecast animation. notice, at midnight right now, most of the rainfall in the north bay. during the morning commute, it could get pretty messy. could see some pretty heavy rain, moving through parts of the north bay and even that peninsula. that red and the santa cruz mountains could be a sudden downpour. then we will see spotty showers so look out for rainbow's before we have another way of hitting the bay area peninsula. you notice areas of yellow there

around livermore. as the system exits, we will see lingering leftover pop up showers into tuesday morning. then they will be dry by tuesday afternoon. rainfall amounts really range quite a bit. maybe about 1/10 of an inch all the way up to an inch. it gives you an idea of these spotty and scattered nature of the showers we will see over the next day and a half. not quite an exact rainfall amount or your neighborhood. it gives you the idea of the range that could happen. winter storm warning is an effect until 2:00 wednesday, don't want to be driving to and from the sierra until after monday afternoon. then we could even see some light showers, snow showers on tuesday. dry on wednesday, but they will get more snow again thursday into friday. our overnight lows will be in the upper 40's around the bay with some of mid 40's through parts of the north bay and it

will be wet tomorrow morning. in the afternoon, a little bit of a good break, but isolated showers. temperatures in the upper 50's. here is a look ahead to showing one of our forecast animations bringing in that rain thursday afternoon into friday. then possibly continuing into the weekend. we have some models that say a little differently. we will keep you posted on next weekend. here is the seven-day forecast. on and off showers to tuesday morning. then we get a break, temperatures on the cool side. low 50's through parts of the north bay on wednesday and then at mid-50's with another storm coming on thursday, possibly into the weekend. j.r.: hopefully this helps the drought. francis: we are catching up on it rain totals and snow totals, we are above average right now read we can definitely use more. j.r.: thanks so much. you can check the forecast
