tuesday, december 6. kumasi: it is raining but not as bad as yesterday. drew: it is winding down but we have storms, especially in the south by. in marine county we are seeing downpours. even stinson beach. certainly highway one, 101 impacted by slick roadways. it is a level one on the storm impact scale. we take a live look outside the bridge. it is wet this morning. showers in the forecast. the afternoon we take the showers out and start to dry out . temperatures maxing out in the 50's. kumasi: today the san francisco board of supervisors could make the use of deadly force robots a reality. if approved the robots would be used in specific situations. lena howland is live at city hall with the details in the effort to stop the controversial decision. lena: after yesterday's protests

against the use of these possible deadly force robots, we are already hearing that at least one supervisor has changed their mind and plans to reverse their decision in a vote this afternoon at today's meeting. supervisor gordon mar's saying i do not think removing the immediacy and humanity of taking a life and putting it behind a remote control is a reasonable step for a municipal police force. i do not think robots with lipo force will make a safer or -- with lethal force will make us safer. the board of supervisors voted last week to change the language of the policy that allows how these robots are used. supervisor dean preston alleging last week spoke happened illegally because the 30 day notice for public comment was not given. instead he says it was posted on a friday and heard the following monday. >> we have now uncovered the

fact that the san francisco police department did not post this policy as they required to do 30 days before the hearing, another reason this board of supervisors should change course. lena: we do not have a response back yet from sfpd on those claims, but sfpd assistant chief did say last week the department does not have robots and does not plan to arm the ones they have with guns. he did say they could deploy robots that are equipped with explosives. the board of supervisors is expected to vote on this this afternoon at 2:00. we will let you know what happens. live in san francisco, lena howland, abc 7 news. reggie: protesting academic workers say they are not backing down. they staged a sit in at the office of the university of california president in oakland. some disrupted a meeting to make their voices heard.

they say their demands are wage increase, child care benefits, and better living conditions. >> we were deeply frustrated by the silence we were faced with when we compelled key decision-makers to escalate this issue and elevate it to the president. reggie: the university says they have conducted over 50 bargaining sessions with the union and have secured tentative agreements that are fair and reasonable, adding they deliver their final offer to the workers last saturday. kumasi: police have arrested the suspect accused of attacking a worker at the habit burger grill in antioch. the video you're about to say it might be difficult to watch. 20-year-old isaac white carter is the man who punched 19-year-old bianca multiple times after he was asked to leave the restaurant for bully of with special needs. the victim lost the use of her luck -- her right eye during that attack it is grateful for

whales. commercial crab season has been delayed twice to protect migrating whales from that's. the fishermen say these delays are -- whales are still present in the golf and monterey bay. if whales have not headed south, crab season could be delayed until january. car rental company hertz has agreed to pay almost 170 million dollars after some drivers were arrested and firstly -- and falsely accused of stealing rental cars. the company first claimed it was a computer glitch. jobina: hundreds of those lawsuits are being settled after people were accused of stealing cars. the majority of the lawsuits are supposed to be paid by the end of the year. hertz says a computer glitch is to blame. the glitch marks the cars as stolen or showed a customer do not pay for that rental.

crime counts along with murder. investigators are the suspect began shooting during a birthday celebration and rarely stopped after people wrestle them to the ground. kumasi: a new study suggests your risk of dementia might increase if you are eating "ultra processed foods." if more than 20% of your daily food intake is ultra processed, you raise the risk of cognitive decline. that is 400 calories of a standard 2000 calorie diet. researchers found that information and decision-making parts of the brain are hit the hardest when you're eating ultra processed foods. reggie: last week we told you about merriam-webster's word of the year, which was gaslighting. kumasi: this week oxford dictionaries out with its word, goblin mode. this was chosen through a public vote. it refers to a type of behavior which is unapologetically self-indulgent, lazy, or greedy,

differences between me and my opponent are too wide for us to sleep. >> this is about turnout. that means we have to get in the game. jobina: early voting appears to advantage democrats but high turnout from republicans could impact. we will let you know when the results come in. reggie: a new approach to homelessness in new york has some asking if it would work here in san francisco. it involves allowing police to force people into hospitals if they feel they cannot take care of themselves. over 1% of the people on houston san francisco suffer from mental illness or drug addiction. >> people who are truly not able to make decisions for themselves and are spiraling towards death and it is not progressive and not humane to just allow people to deteriorate and die on our streets. >> they do not have the hospital

capacity, the hospital costs are enormous. reggie: san francisco already has a forced treatment program ordered by the courts but it falls short of what new york is doing. here the person has to be taken to emergency crisis unit at least eight times in a single year. kumasi: the fbi is warning you to be careful of cyber scams this holiday season. the fbi says it is best to use your credit card and not your debit card if you're shopping online because credit cards are easier to secure. it is not just buyers being targeted, sellers are also being scammed. >> the most common we see our nondelivery scams and nonpayment scams. the non-livery scam is just what it sounds like. somebody will be shopping online and pay for something but not receive a product. the nonpayment scam is the opposite. the nonpayment scam victimizes the vendor. someone will attempt to purchase an item, the vendor will ship the item, but the consumer who

kumasi: new developments in the effort to fill soon to be empty san jose city council seats. after a six-hour meeting the city council decided against a special election and this is a controversial decision. the seats they need to be filled are being vacated by the mayor elect and district eight council member who a seat on the santa clara county board of supervisors. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez joining us live in the newsroom with this. gloria: hundreds of people chiming in at the special counsel meeting. seven city council members voting in favor of appointing replacements for the seats or against.

[applause] let's vote. gloria: community members packing the san jose city council chamber yesterday. hundreds attending in person with hundreds more online. they clashed and advocated for ways they feel the city council should fill city council seats up for grabs after november's election. of her debate was whether people or politicians should decide who should best represent district 10. the majority wanted a special election but not everyone. the city estimates a special election could cost $2.9 million per district and some say that previous low voter turnout was proof that process would have

been a waste of taxpayer money. reggie? reggie: that was something else. today in the east bay a tight race for a richmond city council seat will be determined by drawing a name out of a bag. this comes after a boat determined the candidates receive the exact same number of votes, 1921. four weeks out of election day the winner will be determined when a city clear draws that name out of the bag. will have that life when it happens at 9:00 on our streaming apps. kumasi: to the latest with twitter. forbes is reporting janitors at the san francisco headquarters are on strike. they claim they will be laid off after twitter did not negotiate with the company that employs the janitors. a second group is now suing twitter. three of those employees join their lawyer at a news conference in l.a.. attorney lisa bloom said she
