tell right now but it is true. a rubber dam is being lowered today to help prevent flooding of water supplies. andrea rodriguez says sonoma water is ready for what could be the first big storm of the season. >> the next series of storms coming through this we can, we look like we will get a nice downpour, so it is part of that, we're looking to lower our rubber dam. beck's water officials have started to lower this rubber dam on the russian river ahead of the storm. lowering the dam can take up to 48 hours but it is all in the name of safety. >> 40,000. >> we know we have an influx of rain and storms and we will see an increase in the river flows,

we want to reduce flooding downstream and all the way through. >> during dry summer months, it slows river flows from runoff ponds but when it rains, they are used for storage. >> they help us in drought times but they are also a flood control system. >> lake sonoma is now at its lowest level in history, about 40% capacity. during the last storm, marin county's alpine light reservoir got two inches of rain. despite new storms bringing snow to the sierra, climate experts say it is only a drop in the drought bucket. >> we need about an extra year's worth of precipitation to come out of the drought. that's about 60 feet of snow. that might be a little bit optimistic. >> north bay water officials are hoping for december downpour or even a march miracle.

create coalitions. today we saw several organizations at that press print conference coming together , and a group of young people actively involved in the buyback program. lawmakers, law enforcement, and when they formed these coalitions, a dialogue is started an action is taken toward addressing gun violence in their community. it is one more piece of the puzzle. kristen: authorities are investigating a fatal crash between a car and a motorcycle in san francisco's mission district. the accident happened at cesar chavez around 10:30 this morning. police say when officers got there they found a motorcyclist with life-threatening injuries. officers and paramedics rendered aid, but the man died at the scene. the driver of the car suffered non-life-threatening injuries. dan: oakland police will step up efforts to try to reduce traffic accidents and deaths all across the city. the department said the effort will be paid for through a grant

subject line said their student debt relief had been approved. the email with the incorrect subject line was apparently sent as an error. that's because a student loan program was halted in mid-november for legal challenges. the department of education and send your federal services are working to send corrected emails to the borrowers who applied and received the approval email. in august, the biden administration announced the plan which would forgive $10,000 in federal student debt for people with incomes under 125,000 dollars or households making less than $250,000. the website student a.gov outlined those qualifications. more than 26 moving people have already applied for relief. while the plan is on hold, president biden extended the pause on student loan payments through june 30. the u.s. supreme court will hear arguments in the case in february. kristen: hopefully this guy will

out there, love to upper 50's, san francisco 53, san jose the oakland airport camera, sunshine all the way back toward the city. mid-50's from napa to santa rosa , 58 in concord and livermore. former south beach camera, looking at blue skies, it will look very different tomorrow afternoon and evening when showers arrive. a stronger storm on saturday and we are expecting downpours and strong gusty winds to a that storm. first we start out with the light level 1, tomorrow afternoon scattered showers, it will make for some slippery roadways during the afternoon and evening commute. 2:00 it is starting to move into the north bay, as we head into the next few hours, 4:00 you will notice the rain starts to spread across the east bay and then it starts to fall apart. scattered showers for the latter

part of the evening going into about 11:00 p.m. when all is said and done, rainfall totals were range from nothing measurable to about .3 inch in santa rosa. higher totals around mendocino and lake county's. warning temperatures will begin in the 30's and 40's partly to mostly cloudy skies. this morning we had subfreezing and freezing conditions in our coldest north bay valleys. not quite as cold tomorrow morning but some patchy fog. tomorrow afternoon you are looking at mostly 50's for your highs, rain first in the north bay and then scattered showers for the rest of the bay area later in the afternoon and evening. fast forward to friday night, the next round comes in but not until saturday two things get really messy. it will dump in the mountai we will get a soaking here in the bay area, sunday looking wet

i had dry eyes to begin with, but i will sat have terribly dry eyes and that's why i ended up having lasik because i could not tolerate the contact lenses i was wearing area well. my vision is terrific, but what are the new concerns about lasik? as you said, hundreds of thousands get this procedure every year. >> it is important to note, face on what i'm reading when i read the report and talk to my friends who are ophthalmologists who are doing this procedure, there isn't necessarily new evidence. the fda has put out a black box warning on side effects. for years this has been talked about, since 2008 or 2009. it's similar to any elective procedure, whether it's cosmetic surgery or botox, there are rare side effects. similar to what you were saying, you had it done 27 years ago with good effect.
