>> back to the weather in a few moments. developing news out of qatar. a renowned american journalist has died. grant wall. grant wahl was covering the world match between argentina and the netherlands when he collapsed suddenly in the press box. he posted on his website he had been sick and visited a medical clinic. he was told he did not have covid. it was likely bronchitis. also while in qatar, briefly stopped while wearing a rainbow color shirt to the united states match. his stance on lgbtq rights has garnered a lot of attention during the world cup. grant wall was 49 years old. in the east bay, a friends held a candlelight vigil for alexis gabe. people gathered at civic center park near the lit up christmas tree. gabe went missing in january of this year.

her remains were found in amador county. officials believe she was killed by her ex-boyfriend. police shot and killed him during an attempted arrest in washington state. >> a san jose resident facing felony charges and prison time after the santa clara county district attorney. a victim was renting a nearby airbnb. he was injured but survived. amanda del castillo shows us how part of the investigation now includes potential hate crime allegations. >> charged with felony assault with a semi automatic firearm, a san jose homeowner being accused of the unprovoked shooting of an unarmed black man. it happened october 2. the santa clara county district attorney's office filing a complaint this week against mark henry waters who is white. >> not every case across racial violence is a hate crime. >> stephen clark weighing in

after the da's office announced potential hate crime allegations are being investigated. police reports obtained by abc7 news say the victim was renting a room through airbnb at this home. located directly across the street from the suspects house. a responding officer noting the victim described he was going to safeway to get some noodles and juice. the victim says he crossed the street and before he was on the others, the suspect approached him and shot him. the police report detailed the suspect's account, saying the victim walked toward him, he thought he had a gun. he later realized it was a pair of headphones. during booking, the suspect allegedly stating "i can't take it back, what i have done. i have paid the price." >> he will be reviewed for what groups he may be associated with, issues he may have stated on social media.

the high covid 19 community level, with greater risk of catching covid and increased risk for elderly or medically vulnerable. santa clara is the only bay area county listed as high. >> people are recommended to wear masks indoors and in crowded outdoor settings as the city sees a surge of covid. health officials stopped short of issuing a full on mask mandate. letters were sent to school superintendents urging them to consider to bring back masking requirements for classrooms. several counties in new york have high levels of covid in the community, according to the cdc. to the north bay, one of the largest and oldest dairies stopped making ice cream. products carried by many grocery stores through the bay area and when we looked on the company website today, no ice cream to be found. a brochure confirmed the news today.
