a contributor to the san francisco chronicle explain how she got swift's team to take notice. twitter ceo elon musk is making waves again today. he is sounding off about a revamped verification system, changing tweet links and auctioning off furniture at the san francisco headquarters. the biggest thing everyone is talking about, he was booed on stage or perhaps offstage last night in san joining us to talk about that and all the twitter news is kylie robinson, tech reporter for fortune magazine. let's start with the booing. we cannot show you the video but here is elon musk's tweet responding to it. he said technically it was 90% years and 10% boos but still that is a lot of boos which is a first for me in real life. frequent on twitter. all of this went down on dave chapelle show.
3:02 pm
reporting on it but i did watch the video and i have read a lot of great reporting on it. i did read from cnbc i believe that perhaps his depiction of the booing was not accurate. it is interesting that dave chapelle brought him on stage in san francisco. >> he was up there for a few minutes. you could hear the mix of boos and cheers. certainly there were some people who did not seem to appreciate him being there. mosque went on to say it is almost as if i have offended sf's unhinged leftists. is he declaring war on san francisco? declaring war on san francisco. i think he entered a city that obviously we know is incredibly left wing. he has fired a lot of the tec force that is still in san francisco. i read someone compared it to an

oil tycoon coming in and making jokes about firing everyone in the city. obviously people are upset with his behavior that lived here who might be affected have friends who might be affected i his leadership at twitter. i don't know if he is declaring were on the city but he is dead millie choice jokes. >> certainly he did not win a lot of friends among his employees about three quarters of which he got rid of allegedly. that is how he characterized it should the latest war seems to be his most recent tweets on internal debates between the deplatforming of donald trump after the january 6 insurrection. what is that all about right now? >> i think as you are seeing these tweets i think one of the things he said off the top of his head was twitter was a crime scene. i think a lot of employees are put in the hot sweet. there have been multiple twitter threads about the information within twitter and deplatforming
3:04 pm
trump. i think it is dissent -- i think it is sensitive. people are going to be upset about him docketing twitter employees so that is all i know. any conversations we have on select channels we do not expect that to become public. certainly not made public by the big boss himself. he is breaking all sorts of rules. he is auctioning off all sorts of furniture apparently. he is selling things from twitter san francisco headquarters. >> i spoke to someone who is a representative at the firm facilitating the auction. they said this has nothing to do with their financial status. he says the auctioning happens all the time and has nothing to do with elon musk recouping his costs. and the quote i recall is anyone who thinks that is a more on is what the representative told me. i don't have more information than that.
3:05 pm
espresso machines and sculptures is what is up for auction. >> those are some expensive mid century furniture types. with all the big bluebird statue. there was an everybody is reading the tea leaves. does this suggest anything in terms of his intentions perhaps of leaving san francisco forget? >> i don't think that is the case. i can only speculate. he did say they are not going to have free lunch anymore. a lot of this is kitchen supplies. that makes sense if you're not going to have free lunch. i don't think it is indicative of their financial status per what the representative said to it has yet to be seen why they are auctioning off all this. >> mosque also tweeted a meme of dr. anthony fauci.
3:06 pm
just one more locked down my king is what he is appearing to say to dr. -- to president biden. he tweeted his pronouns are prosecute fauci. how is this being viewed in terms of the culture wars on twitter? from sources internally but i think it is indicative of elon musk and his politics. he is going to continue tweeting things like this. it is a part of who he is and his brand. i don't think people should be surprised he is tweeting more things that align with his politics. >> even if the furniture sale has nothing to do with trying to raise money, let's talk about the financials. what has all this done to twitter's advertising? have we noticed anything and also to tesla shares, his other company. >> i have not done any reporting on tesla shares or advertising but i have read advertising continues to suffer under
3:07 pm
-- under his reign. he had a meeting with tim cook about apples advertisement. apple is now -- their advertisements are back on twitter. it is yet to be seen if he is going to be able to retain key advertisers with the way he is tweeting about faucher and his politics. i have no further updates. >> you know a lot about the subscription model and the fact twitter relaunched twitter blue, the verification system should how is all this going to work now? >> i saw that they are going to have different color badges. even my organization has a little yellow badge to say we are a news organization. my badge says i am a legacy not verified account. they are tinkering with this and iterating each lunch to see if it is going to be effective. they are definitely building the plane as it is in motion as they
3:08 pm
say. the tweet because this could affect us, the legacy folks with the blue checked because we are journalists. . he tweeted in a few months we will remove all legacy blue checks. he says the way they were given out was corrupt. how was it corrupt that we got ours? >> i think that jack dorsey the former ceo of twitter has also said verification has been a problem within twitter for a long time. i don't know what mosque has seen that makes him think it is corrupt. basely we are both journalists so we have to be verified to reach out to sources and show we are real journalists and not posing as journalists. i do think he is going to remove our legacy blue checks and unless you sign up for twitter blue you will not have a check. we will see how that works out for them and if he continues with this idea. >> have you seen meaningful data
3:09 pm
as to whether all these changes recently if there has been more or less this information and misrepresentation on the platform? >> i have not seen any data internally but i did read from the new york times a lot of the surrender has been more hate speech on twitter which elon has consistently combated. he says that is not true but there is data that there is more hate speech on twitter than before which leads to advertisers being scared to advertise on twitter. if that ends up being true it is going to be an uphill battle. >> parley robinson helping us ask kylie rub and send openness digest the latest twitter news. coming up, are you afraid of flying? if so, you are definitely not alone. alone. i am with life is uncertain. it's okay to feel stressed, anxious, worried or frustrated. calhope can help access, calhope free and secure mental health resources today. call our warm line at 833-317-4673

>> with all the holiday travel coming up, many americans will be taking to the skies. a good number of them nervously. a study shows nearly one in three americans either anxious or afraid to fly. thankfully there is a free workshop at san francisco international airport to help allay those joining us as paula zimmerman, a bay area therapist who has been leading the fear of flying clinic for over 30 years. thanks for your time. >> happy holidays to you. i'm glad to have a chance to share what we do at the clinic. >> especially with so many people taking to the skies who don't normally fly. does that number sound right, one in three anxious or afraid and perhaps not wanting to fly because of it? >> i had heard one in four but i
3:13 pm
would agree with you it is probably one in three. >> it is a lot of people. that is the point. you just held a workshop a week ago. who are the folks and what did they tell you? why are they afraid? >> there are lots of reasons and i can relate because i have been a fearful flyer myself. turbulence is probably the biggest one. worry about maintenance. flying through whether. does the plane have enough power for taking off? does a bumpy landing mean we are going to crash? there are other people who are concerned about being in a small space. maybe a good 30% of our clients are a little bit claustrophobic or are avoiding flying so you can avoid a panic attack. >> some of it seems like it is
3:14 pm
lack of awareness of how planes work. some of it is maybe not knowing the physics. some of the is fear of small space and other phobias. tell us how in your clinics you tackle each of these common fears. >> all of those fears have one thing in common. they come from how we think about the experience we are in. if you are taking off and you are thinking there is not enough power here to get this giant airplane off, you are to feel fear. a lot we think about it. we always say in cognitive therapy it is not the experience we are in. it is the meaning we give to it. it is how we perceive what we are going through. what the clinic can do is help provide clients with different
3:15 pm
ways of thinking about it. if they learn that for instance you have to have twice as much power for takeoff and you actually need, knowing that can make you feel much more at ease. >> let's go through turbulence which is my big fear. it makes me anxious every time we get a bump. give us some tips on how we can maybe will eyes or reframe in our minds to get us out of that one when it gets bumpy. >> it really is understanding turbulence. it is understanding it is moving air. it is understanding not hurt by turbulence itself. turbulence does not bring down the plane. it is understanding that turbulence is almost routine in flying. it is not a unique event.
3:16 pm
when you start understanding what is going on, that you are not really unsafe, you learn to ride through those feelings. you're still going to be on the plane and there is going to be turbulence but you're going to have ways to think about it that are not scary. >> can you give me a way to think about it? one thing i started doing myself as i close my eyes and i pretend i'm driving on a bumpy road instead of being on a plane. is that something that works? >> it depends. i have asked clients to do that. not while they are driving of course but be in their car and feel the movement. if you are feeling the movement in a car and you have your eyes close and you imagine you are on a plane, you will notice it is just movement. but it is just movement in your mind because you are in car and you know what that is all about. if you are thinking if i felt
3:17 pm
this in a i would be freaked out -- it what it is just movement -- but it is just movement and that is what it comes down to. >> knowing the basic statistics, that could help. we have some we want to show our reviewers compiled from the faa information. tell me if this has changed or different. one in 3.3 billion chance of dying in a commercial airline crash between 2012 to 2016. look at those odds. we have a couple more to run through. you have a one in 20 million chance of being on the commercial airplane flight that has a fatal accident. last one we want to show you is this one. surprising to a lot of people i think that 98.6% of crashes don't result in a fatality. what do you think knowing all this does for us rental? >> here is the funny thing about statistics. we look at one in whatever
3:18 pm
billion chances you have there and we go yeah, but i am the one. >> why do we do that? why do we find it so easy to put aside statistics and odds and focus on the bad and is going to happen to me? >> the good thing fear tells us about us as we value life and we want to take care of ourselves and each other. it comes from a good place. we do personalize it and begin to think if one of those could happen, shuai do that -- we do the same thing buying a lottery ticket. i can plant how i would spend all the money. the chance of us winning a lottery ticket are negligible. it is the same with flying ticket is hard to put our heads around that. i think that is what the clinic offers is a lot of information to help kind of talk back to
3:19 pm
some of the negative and inaccurate thoughts we have about flying. >> certainly sounds useful. when can people sign up and when do you have your next class? >> if this were not a covid year, we would find it a little easier. we have workshops, virtual workshops and they can sign up at fomc.com. we will offer some online courses. as soon as we are able to come out we will offer what we have in the past. a pretty expansive program we actually fly with the clients at the end of the course. >> fantastic. and it is all free or is there a fee? no >> i'm sorry. there is a fee. it is a nonprofit organization however so it is not too costly. >> thank you for clarifying that.
