>> building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions, this is abc 7 news. dan: the scandal that rocked tech and financial world. sam bankman-fried facing charges for the collapse of a crip no currency giant, taking the money of 30's and everyday citizens down with it. today his bay area ties. thank you for joining us. i am dan ashley. the united states has indicted the former ceo of ftx on eight counts of fraud. sam bankman-fried was arrested in the bahamas yesterday. he is now waiting to be brought back to the u.s. for trial.

amanda del castillo has new details on the collapse of ftx and bankman-fried's bay area ties. amanda: a bay area native slapped with an eight count indictment tuesday for charges of fraud and conspiracy. ftx founder sam bankman-fried face up to 115 years in prison if ultimately convicted on all eight counts filed by the u.s. department of justice. this san jose says cryptocurrency aside, this is a cautionary tale for those who invest on any level. >> do not ever put your savings, education, whatever's in retirements, do not invest in this kind of promise. because of somebody is promising you higher returns, you have to understand that comes with high risk. amanda: bankman-fried was arrested in the bahamas on monday and has yet to enter into a plea. accused of defrauding customers

and investors of crypto giant ftx out of billions of dollars, bankman-fried was born on the campus of stanford university. he attended crystal springs upland schools in hillsboro and graduated from m.i.t. in 2014. on tuesday, his alleged crimes were called one of the biggest financial frauds in u.s. history by u.s. attorney damien williams. >> this is exactly what happened with enron in the is what happens in 2008. amanda: development comes one month after bankman-fried five -- filed for bankruptcy and weeks after he discussed with abc about the fall of ftx. >> i was not spending time or effort trying to manage risk on ftx. >> that is a pretty stunning admission. amanda: back in the bay area, the tech expert referenced

temperatures. we are three degrees away from freezing in santa rosa right now. 37 in livermore, freeze warning goes up from 1:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. for all inland areas. we are talking mid to upper 20's, frost and freeze will damage outdoor pipes and your tender plants. make sure you bring your pets inside. we have a frost advisory for the bay shoreline. near freezing to freezing and as that frost forms, that could cause damage, so keep that in mind. by morning, 28 in santa fairfield, 30 degrees in livermore, in san jose, 36 degrees p of how long this winter like chill will last. dan: right now leaders in oakland are wondering something that you might be wondering as well. is it time to mask up again given the rise in winter covid cases? alameda county is in the cdc's

currently the weekly hospital admission rate is rising and now nearly 11% in alameda county. >> we think there should be a citywide policy for all city-owned buildings. j.r.: this ucsf doctor has a rise in cases and says he now recommends masking indoors. >> i don't wa this much covid is around, that to me says in credit indoor spaces i should be wearing a mask. j.r.: on facebook i asked viewers if you would be in favor of an indoor mask mandates. most did not have a problem with it and for the idea, but some are against it. heidi stevens and miller saying, no, i am vaccinated, i had covid, it was not terrible. but the senior and disability action group thinks otherwise. >> we have to react to the reality of the situation and not the reality of what we would like it to be. we have to react to the reality of what it actually is. j.r.: as to the type of mask

young woman who lost an eye while attacking -- protecting a customer at the fast food restaurant she worked at in antioch. she was given a key to the city. bianco was punched in the face when she stepped in to stop a bullying incident at the habit burger last month. the blow damaged her right i so severely that doctors had to remove it. the people who victim have been charged. the california reparations task force will meet at oakland city hall. the committee was established by governor newsom in 2020 and set to release its final report in july. they will now iron out some of the details after traveling around the state for input. questions on the agenda include whether there will be a california residency requirement. also will direct victims are all

trouble booking stays if the host thinks that they are black. the new information comes after airbnb launched an initiative to fix race-based discrimination on its platform. while all users had their was a ration successfully confirmed by hosts, more than 90% of the time in 2021, users perceived to be white when booking had a success rate of 94% according to the company. users who are thought to be black had a successful -- success rate of 91%. those perceived as asian, latino, and hispanic, had a success rate between those two groups. this comes on the heels of our extensive reporting on discrimination in the home appraisal process. the work by julian glover is just outstanding and has received national distinction for exposing systemic equities in the process for people of color. julian and our team spent two years on this new documentary

sandhya: it is nice when they have fresh powder and it was in feet over the weekend. right now i want to talk about winter like chilled for the bay area. we need to get ready. bring your pets inside if you have not done it yet. it will be subfreezing inland. prevent bursting pipes and protect tender plants. we have a freeze warning for all inland areas tomorrow morning and an advisory for the coast and bay shoreline for the same time period. virtually all of the bay area either under the warning are the advisory. look at the temperatures. you are already in the 30's and 40's, two degrees shy of freezing in fairfield. as we head towards midnight tonight, it will be down to the 32 degree mark in santa rosa. by 4:00 a.m., you are already below freezing, and that is not where those temperatures bottom out. 28 degrees in santa rosa, livermore is definitely going to

we are hoping that this trend continues as we head towards winter. on live doppler 7, just some higher clouds right now. tomorrow afternoon, low to mid 50's, mix of sunshine, and higher clouds for their wednesday. i want to show you what the model is indicating. on tuesday next week, a storm system does not quite make it, but look at what the european model is showing. wet weather for the bay area. here's how we will put it out there. it will be a slight chance since the models are not in agreement. a couple of mornings ahead are cold and frosty. we are looking at dry conditions through the weekend. the start of hanukkah, the sun goes down, it will be cool. and monday, slight chance of showers.
