earlier. reporter: an earlier surge not necessarily mean we are close to a peak for the flu. flu season could be longer than normal and we do know that hospitalizations nationally are still rising. hospitalization rates were lower in the first two years of that pandemic. the story for rsv is different. the latest hospitalization rates shows the peak may have been less month, but doctors say a risk remains. >> this year is one of the worst rsv seasons we have ever seen. reporter: cdc data shows rsv hospitalizations are for young children. the blue line is for kids under the age of four. covid is still holding strong.

rival gangs. today, our anchor spoke to jasper wu's family and friends to hear how they are doing. reporter: this has been a long 13 months bath -- for his family. today, i only his parents, but a close family friend who describe how tirelessly law enforcement work to make the arrests. we also learned about their hopes for the future. the moment they got the news of three arrests in jasper wu's killing, it was a missed -- a mix of emotions. >> we were super relieved when we found out the suspect was in custody after 13 months and also kind of sad. everybody is still remembering

jasper, every time i think about what happened. reporter: thursday, the da announced the arrest of three men for the shooting death of baby jasper wu. the victim of gunfire between rival gangs from san francisco. >> happened -- it happened because two rival gangs were having a gun battle. reporter: we sat down with susan, a close family friend of the little boy's mother and father. she described long waiting game. >> they have been doing a great job keeping the family updated on progress. burst, she conveyed deep gratitude for the tireless efforts of law enforcement

on charges related to another shooting. investigators pieced together the events of the day jasper wu died almost hour by hour. see the timeline by going to abc7news.com. dan: the mayor of fairfield has died. the cause of d released. he was four days shy of completing his fourth term in office. he was set to swear in the new mayor this thursday. pg&e has reduced its workforce but critics say the decision does not make any sense before the next wildfire season. our reporter has the story. reporter: with just six months to wildfire season, they have confirmed it they have ramped down the workforce.

you cook is the president of environmental working group. they said they laid off 800 contract employees over the last few weeks, including many responsible for helping to prevent wildfires. >> it does not make the slightest bit of sense that what they are doing now is cutting back on their work force. this is the wintertime when they should be cutting back those branches and protecting the transmission lines. reporter: they said they are not doing layoffs, rather meeting its work plans. they will use contractors flexible resource that it ramps up or down based on the amount of work that needs to be done. they reduce the number of contractors because they completed or nearly completed the plans.

dan: an update on the story from last week. a single mother who has been homeless with her daughter for almost a year now has a place to call home. our reporter followed up with her. reporter: when we first met she had just gotten the news that richmond's mayor was going to pay for one year of rent for her and her 14-year-old daughter. today is moving day. what are you bringing with you? >> my clothes, my daughter. reporter: this rv has been there shelter for almost a year. her christmas wish was a home.
