this is one of the nine bay area counties now on the cdc's covid data tracker listed as a medium, to give you a better idea of the amount of covid spread right across the bay area before christmas. unfortunately, for parents and health care workers, that is not the only thing they are up against. they are facing a tripledemic with cases of covid, the flu and rsv spiking at the same time. with plenty of holiday gatherings scheduled, doctors recommend that if you choose to get together, wear a mask, get vaccinated, and get tested before you gathered to keep everyone safe. >> when he families have brought back covid testing for gatherings. it is not the be all and end all but it is something you can do to judge infectivity at the time. lena: dr. peter hong says not to

the most pressing issues in the bay area and across the country. president biden has announced a goal to reduce the number of un-housed i 25% by 2025. reporter: the biden administration is taking new action to combat the homelessness crisis across the country. a new plan unveiled monday how the white house calling to boost the supply of affordable housing and increasing the number of shelters and support programs nationwide. always the goal of reducing the number of homeless by 25% the next two years. >> do you think that is feasible? >> i think that is very ambitious but we have to be whole -- be bold. reporter: this is the director of the program of the unity council, an organization that works to provide affordable housing in oakland. he says he is optimistic about the plan which finds ways to try to prevent people from becoming

homeless in the first place which includes encouraging landlords to accept government vouchers. it also calls to address equity issues because homeless people are disproportionately people of color. also to make councils made up of people that have experienced homelessness. >> i think that this, if anything, would create an alignment across the counties. we have a specific goal we can work towards. in the past, for counties or cities have had different goals. reporter: the framework from the white house comes the same day the department of urban housing and development showed new numbers across the country which show the amount of people experiencing homelessness nationwide. where than half a million people which has largely held steady since the start of the pandemic. in california, the numbers have risen prickett since 2020, the

tens of thousands of uc academic employees like teacher assistants is a student workers. workers are asking for health and child care benefits and a pay increase. last month, the union for representing postop workers reached a settlement. kumasi: a small catholic university that called oakland home for more than 150 years is set to close. it announced it will shut down after the spring semester next year. in recent years, they have phased declining enrollment. students will have the option to continue studying at dominican university in san rafael and graduate on schedule. reggie: volunteers are hard at work donating hours struggling to keep up with demand. the amount of people they helping is 15% more than what they saw last year.
