the dense fog advisory in effect for the valleys of the east bay and solano county until 11:00 a.m. this morning. temperatures, waking up to mild conditions, one of the worst mornings we've had so are. the 40's if not low 50's. a mostly cloudy day, not nearly as bright as yesterday. we will go into the mid to upper 50's but late this evening we have to include the storm impact scale. the chance of some light, scattered showers that could make some slick spots later tonight. this wet weather later evening and also that nationwide forecast. >> already getting messy. more than 1200 flights have already been canceled across the country because of winter weather conditions. the national weather service is calling this a once in the generation type of event.

it is expected to cripple christmas travel. lena howland live this morning with more on what you need to know. lena: good morning. in a way, this is a perfect storm today. one of the busiest air travel days of the year and just take a look behind me. they are already seeing quite a bit of traffic out here at 5:00 in the morning. this once in a generation blizzard conditions, ice and flooding are expected from the plains and the midwest to the east. airlines already canceling more than 1200 flights for today. chicago's o'hare with the most cancellations overnight. more than 700 flights already canceled for tomorrow as well. delays and cancellations only adding to the chaos at airports packed with holiday travelers. >> tired, stressed, hungry.
