>> building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions, this is abc 7 news. dion: an arctic bla historic blizzard hitting much of the country this holiday weekend. it has frozen travel plans for tens of thousands but now it is the bay area's turn for winter weather. a full week of heavy rain and possible thunder as the nut -- as another atmospheric river arrives. thank you for spending your christmas with us. you are watching abc seven news at 11:00. we are taking a live look now from live doppler 7 and some of our cameras spread across the bay area tonight. the fog is a big story, but that is just the beginning of a busy week ahead. francis is standing by with the timing of all of that rain. >> we are expecting one to three inches of rain monday night into

tuesday afternoon. you can see was live doppler 7, the satellite radar image, all of this moisture from the atmospheric river is heading our way and we will see the increase in cloud cover tonight into tomorrow. what it is going to bring us is a lot of fog. visibility is down to three quarters of a mile in fairfield and there is a dense fog advisory in effect for solano county until tomorrow morning where visibility will drop down to one fourth of a mile. just use your low beams and be careful driving through the area. and this next strong storm is a level 3 three on our storm impact scale. it is going to bring us periods of heavy rain, strong gusty winds, flooding thunderstorms expected. the timing of it, 7:00 tomorrow night, starts sooner in the north bay but it packs a punch midnight into the early morning hours. that is when you see the reds

to their holiday destinations. and on the roads, drivers facing treacherous conditions. >> this guy is so close to jackknifing. andrew: in rockton, illinois several people were injured in this eight vehicle crash. roughly eight cars were involved in a deadly multi car pile up on interstate 80 in ohio. >> this is a stark reminder of what happened -- happens when you get behind the wheeled -- wheel and tried to drive in these conditions. dion: being stuck in an airport during the holidays is not the plan for everyone, but thousands of people are stranded at airports across the country this christmas weekend. just today, nearly 3000 flights were canceled, more than 15,000 delayed. some airports have kept their restaurants open to tend to stranded travelers. people are gathering to make the best of a situation. >> just trying to get home

this is her daughter. we just got caught in this predicament. dion: you are my family now. storms are expected to impact travel on and off the ramps. much of the highway closures were also reported. many people are still waiting to rebook their flights and some will have to wait until after christmas. on this christmas day, many families work together to open presents and enjoy a holiday meal, and hopefully even capture the warriors win on abc 7. as with every christmas, some people were out working. suzanne phan takes a closer look at the stories left behind the holiday shifts. >> merry christmas. suzanne: there's a lot to love about this café in san francisco. for barman tony hernandez, christmas day is a tradition. >> every christmas, it has been a tradition for me for the last six or seven years.

dion: san ramon police are investigating two separate incidents that are hate motivated on christmas and christmas eve. arine kim and her friend elliot ha were eating at this in-n-out last night and recording a tiktok video. suddenly good -- you can hear a man making racist comments. >> japanese or korean? >> i am korean. >> kim jong-un's boyfriend. anation and meal distribution kicked off today in san francisco. volunteers served breakfast and meals to people who may be alone this holiday season. the christmas and lunch meals included ham and turkey of various sides. this gave them a remembrance of home. >> it reminds me of back home. when you don't have any family and you still get to eat some turkey. dion: glide and go vans also delivered 5200 meals to encampments. the christmas celebration including musical performances and a sermon from minister marvin k white. and a long-standing tradition for the salvation army. the charity organization held its annual christmas meal delivery program today. hundreds of local volunteersopae homesrs their

starts tomorrow night. here is live doppler 7 because i want to show you this impressive plume of moisture, this atmospheric river making its way towards the bay area. there is a dense fog advisory through solano county tonight. you can see this live camera in walnut creek how thick it is nearby. it is also a spare the air day tomorrow. no wood-burning and expect moderate air quality around the bay area. tonight's lowe's will be in the 40's for almost everybody, upper to mid 40's around the bay. slightly cooler for inland neighborhoods and then we will see that patchy fog develop along parts of the coast and areas like soprano county. fairly uniform temperatures tomorrow, mainly in the upper 50's to low 60's. we will get slightly warmer weather in the south bay and more sunshine in the afternoon, but as the clouds increase, it is ahead of the storm heading our way. tomorrow will good dayates, bue

dion: the mega-blizzard and arctic cold that seemed to hit everywhere besides california has left us with stunning scenes. this was the scene in downtown buffalo. there was once a street there. the greater buffalo area had seen four feet of snow. then look at this carwash outside of austin, texas. you are seeing walls of icicles on the inside there appeared a hard freeze warning was an effect across the portion of the

you see lots of red spots through parts of the north bay in the east bay, then it starts to clear out. we have spotty showers tuesday afternoon into wednesday. the rainfall totals are so impressive, anywhere from one to three inches especially with the downpours coming through. he prepared for all of this rain and a flood watch in effect starting tomorrow night. the drains could get clogged, especially the low-lying locations, the areas highlighted in green. in addition, there is a wind advisory for the bay area, gusts of 50 miles per hour. look for that in the coasts and higher elevations. and a warning for the sierras. not a good time to drive where the peak could reach 60 miles per hour. a lot of busy weather headed our way, but tomorrow mostly will become. but the winds will pick up and the heaviest will be monday night into tuesday morning, and that is the level 3 storm.
