the newsroom with what we have learned. karina: the investigation days to december 23 when san pablo police contacted oakland police about the death of a two-year-old. investigators found the boy was killed in oakland. but they found the body of the boy in this county. details have not been released about how exactly the boy was killed. but they know the body of that little boy was foundout doors. the chief said they arrested someone close to the child what did not clarify if the suspect is part of the family. no charges have been announced for the homicide. but that suspect is being held on unrelated charges. >> this is a tragic case of a two-year-old child. this should not have happened. we appreciate the hard work of the men and women of the oakland police department who was contacted by the san pablo police department,. .

credibility. >> the issue for the county is how to recertify the election in an election outcome that is unprecedented. dan: in addition to the end of cap -- naacp, they call for a recount in the mayor's race. i will be up tot the alameda county officials to decide if they will grant and pay for it. kristen: in the south bay starting january 1 to san jose residents who own a gun will be required to have insurance by law. san jose is the first city in the nation to require gun owners to have liability insurance to ensure that they must be kept with their firearms. the insurance policy must cover losses or damages from the unintentionally -- unintentional use of firearm, including death or property damage. the mayor says the insurance provides security for gun victims and is an indicator that gun owners will maintain self gun behavior. >> this is not about taking away

operations tomorrow after a disastrous weekend that included a staggering 15,000 flights canceled. there were 2000 more today. the airline is facing a federal investigation for the system meltdown. it's directing passengers to its website for a refund and reimbursement requests. customer say it is too little too late. >> i will never get that time back. i trusted southwest of my worldly belongings to get me from .8 appoint be. i was robbed at this point. dan: southwest's promise to be back to normal tomorrow, is welcome news to travelers. our reporter has the latest from san jose international airport, where some flights are leaving. plenty of luggage remains lost in plain sight. reporter: as some travelers are finally able to catch a flight home, after the southwest airlines christmas nightmare. >> my plans are ruined. by been stuck your for three days, trying to find lodging, things of that nature, finally i get to go home today. reporter: others are frantically

working to get reunited with their luggage. >> did you find your bag? >> i found it. >> oh my gosh finally. reporter: this woman was not alone. jesse swift was supposed to head home to mount house flying into the san jose airport from vegas on monday. his bag was already checked when his flight got canceled. no sign of the bag until he saw it live on abc 7. from these hundreds of unclaimed a bag sitting in a pile of hundreds of other unclaimed bags. we raced to the airport to get it. there was k bar glow out of woodland -- thre was kay out of woodland. he was supposed to fly in from san jose to hawaii, where their cars are. instead they got rebooked on a flight to vegas were they have been stuck since monday with no sign of their luggage. >> no extra clothes, no medication, no makeup, nothing. >> right. fortunately our doctor was able

another airport to pick it up. in san jose, lena howland abc7 news. kristen: southwest problems because the from alaska to miss out on a life-changing event, heart transplant. patrick holland has congestive heart failure. the father of seven got a call from washington medical center in seattle, saying he actually found how actually found a heart donor. he raced to the airport only to find his flight was canceled. >> the second flight got canceled and then the third fight -- flight got canceled. at this point i knew, the next phone calls not going to be good. then, just as i was calling her she was calling me back to tell me that they were going to give the heart to somebody else. kristen: heart wrenching. reporter: holland says he was glad someone else was able to get the donated heart. he hopes he will get another chance soon, so he could see his children grow up. the kids range in age from three to 36 years old. dan: antioch mayor pleaded no

contest to driving under the influence. the no contest plea is avoiding guilt. he was stopped by highway patrol and was arrested for driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage, a second charge was dropped. he was ordered to complete a dui program, through use of probation and when you're at the sheriffs because the alternative facility in --. who's in oakland are figuring out what happened -- why fire was caused in a warehouse. it started at 8:00. it was under control about 20 minutes later. officials say people were living inside the building at the time. two people may have been treated for smoke inhalation. kristen: now to the latest on the health of former pope benedict. a live look from the vatican at 1:30 a.m. local time. the pope is resting well.

it's a big step to getting passengers like jesse swift and their luggage to the right location. jesse lives in mountain house. he was supposed to find him san jose monday -- into san jose monday. his flight was canceled and he did not see his bag, until he thought live on abc 7 sitting on a pile on unclaimed bags. he raced to the airport to get it. so lena howland, way to go, connecting man in his luggage. dan: can you imagine? that's mine. ama: i love any happy story out of this. kristen: i am scratching my head. the video of all of the luggage. anyone can go there and take it. it is such a headache. that may not catch up for a while. sandhya: it is sad for those poor people that have been trying to get to their destination, cannot get there and they don't have their bags. i hope they're able to locate them and get to where they need to go, back to. kristen: their tags. dan: air tags is not a bad idea.
