this is abc seven news. quex heavy rains trigger a landslide in the east bay, and tonight, a major road is shut down in both directions as crews worked to clear debris, blocking knaus cannon road between fremont. but officials say they hope to have it reopened by 7:00 p.m. tonight. good evening. >> thank you for joining us, several landslides are across the bay area and things may only get worse as we brace for another atmospheric river to hit our area. >> with the details on when it will arrive, let's get to our abc7news meteorologist. >> it arrives early tomorrow morning and seems like that was shallow landslides will be a common theme tomorrow. it's certainly possible as you look on live doppler seven right

stormy conditions are being blamed for rock slides, spinouts and car crashes. sadly, one rec killed two teenagers. our abc7news reporters live in san rafael with the very latest there. >> hey, wet and windy has been raining steadily throughout the day, making roads here on 101 very slick, that deadly crash you mention happened not far from here, claiming to young lives. rain was falling in marin county, lake -- making the late morning commute slow and soggy, the chp says this may have been contributed to the terrible crash on southbound 101. two teenagers were killed. a 16-year-old male driver from sandra phelan a 17-year-old female passenger from nevada. three other passengers were hospitalized. officers say the honda civic struck the center divider. >> everyone in the vehicle was younger, which obviously makes things difficult and the

collision for those officers to investigate any time investigate crashes, especially when there's injuries or fatalities, when you see youth involved in these, it just makes it that much more. >> this rockslide came down on the southbound 101 near spencer avenue early friday morning. the big rock striking seven cars, giving them flat tires. >> vehicles were disabled by driving over the debris. and because the roadway to be shut down for a short time. >> a jackknife big rig locked all northbound rigs at 80 in oakland near high. took the chp about four hours to clear it. some drivers clearly ran out of patience looking for an escape plan, using the shoulder as an illegal offramp. >> are you ok? you're going that way? >> in napa county caltran were busy clearing debris out of a ditch on highway 121. to prevent it from flooding this

customers, we will be looking at and taking care of things like rental cars, hotel rooms, meals, booking customers on other airlines, that will all be part of reimbursing our customers and making good on the issue. >> the transportation secretary warns the airline coface tens of thousands of dollars per violation if it doesn't deliver on the refunds. >> from being stranded to having luggage lost indefinitely, travelers have been the most impacted by the southwest airlines. one bay restaurant made a huge gesture to recognize the local employees also affected by the issues. our abc7news reporter was there is more than 100 southwest employees were delivered the gift of sushi. quick things are looking more normal at san jose international. the bay area airport that had had the most cancellations. thousands of travelers and their families are reeling from the impacts, including randy. >> my parents actually had a drive from the bay area down to

up-to-date. in abc 7's analysis found the rates among both groups started to trend down this week. while deaths increased. >> we know that many introductions of infections into these skilled nursing facilities do come from staff and people out and about in the community. >> a new study published in the thousands of nursing homes across the country found just a 10% increase in vaccinations could significantly reduce infections and deaths among residents and staff. >> the suggestion of this paper is that with a smaller marginal increase in vaccination rates, the secondary effects would be huge. we know that's true. >> a university of chicago professor estimates it would prevent the deaths of more than 20,000 nursing home residents each year. >> as a society, we really haven't stepped up. >> the president committed to bringing reform and improvement to the nursing home industry during his state of the union last year. but it wasn't until just last

>> president biden offers full pardons to six convicted felons. they serve two years for involvement and marijuana trafficking conspiracy in 1999. the pardons include three other drug offenders on an 80-year-old woman convicted of second-degree murder for killing her husband. she was pregnant at the time and or has been used or during the pregnancy. a statement from the white house refers to all six as individuals who have served their sentences and have demonstrated a commitment to improving their communities in the lives of those around them. >> a 15-year-old boys in police custody in pittsburgh accused of a deadly shooting of a teenager. police say officers were called to a home near buchanan drive wednesday. they found the victim, also a 15-year-old boy had been shot. he died after being taken to the hospital. investigators say it's unclear what led to the shooting or whether it was deliberate. the juvenile subsector has been lifted and charged with involuntary manslaughter.
