angles for you with life team coverage bay area wide. detailing the many issues people are dealing with, our live doppler 7 is tracking that rain and that is where we begin. spencer has been monitoring this all day, we are drying out a bit. >> this is still a super soaker but the rain is tapering off significantly in the north bay, let me give you a look at live doppler 7, there is still light rain falling in the part of the bay area but look at all the areas of yellow where we still have steady downpours. from conquered along 680 down walnut creek and danville. and farther east and south, down in san leandro and castro valley to 580 and 882 alameda down to hayward. heavy downpours going across the bay a little bit over to mountain view and sunnyvale and parts of palo alto, heavy downpours occurring so it should not be surprising a flood watch

remains in effect for the entire bay area. this is still a level to storm so this evening expect periods of heavy rain but tapering off later this evening widespread local flooding will remain because of all the rain that has already fallen, shallow landslides possible, after 6 p.m. maybe 7 p.m. we expect this rainfall event to be over but its impacts will still be with us and more on that later. >> now to widespread impact of all that rain. so much so it put lives at risk in forcing emergency crews to rescue people from floodwaters using kayaks to in danville. abc 7 news reporter spoke with a number of families that needed help today, talk about dramatic. >> good evening, i gre danville and i have never seen anything like this before. the rain has been coming down hard, it has subsided quite a bit but to give you some

perspective that suv floated across the street earlier today. water came up to its windows, firefighters had to rescue 10 people using kayaks. san ramon valley firefighters had to use a kayak to help this mom and her three-year-old and six month old it out of their house. >> i felt that we were not going to be rescued. >> her and her daughter just moved to danville this year, she came to pick up the family that will take them to her house. >> he loves the fire trucks. it's an adventure for him. >> nel already has flooding, he is just glad he and his family got out when they did. >> this is not what we are expecting whatsoever. i started cleaning out the drains early this morning multiple hours ago and thought i was making a difference for a little bit and then all of a sudden just too much water was coming down.

>> firefighters say several blocks of this danville neighborhood are impacted, this man took video of this suv floating across the street. >> there is a ford excursion one block away that is up above its axles in the water, i saw another floating down the street. even with a ford excursion you are not getting out of this. >> firefighters say this is not typical for danville, the fire chief says there was just too much water for the drainage system to handle. >> any and all creeks right now are over flooded and so anything that was a small creek is now turned into this. >> you can see the floodwater has really come down but fire officials want to remind drivers if you see a row that is flooded do not drive through it like that suv that got stuck, your car can also stall. reporting live in danville abc 7 news. >> we still see those emergency workers behind you, so much happening there, nice job. we appreciate that report.

some people in half moon bay were also cut off by rising water, firefighters helped evacuate people from flooded homes, calfire says everyone is safe and no one was injured. flooding also a serious problem and leading to roadway rescues across the bay, here is a look at some caltrans camera's showing road conditions today inundated by rain. in san rafael, walnut creek and 101 in san jose. abc 7 news reporter tara campbell joins us in san francisco with information about the flooding and closure of highway 101, this caused quite a mess. >> dion i'm down on the embarcadero right now where in ours the sky will be lit up by fireworks celebrating the new year, the fire departments as the show will go on despite what has been an demanding day. >> heavy rains creating treacherous road conditions

saturday in san francisco, highway 101 blocked in countless spots. >> we are asking the public if you do not have to be driving do not be out on the streets driving your car. >> flares going up at this entrance while water rushes over the road. and at this entrance at cesar chavez a downed tree backing people up. at oyster point floodwaters closing a portion of 101 completely. and captain jonathan baxter says stranded cars like this are cause for some of the most concern. >> how many locations have you been to to rescue people stranded in the cars? >> hundred so far. >> one vehicle after another, one rescue at a time. >> when i say we that is collected for san francisco, our fire department, paramedics, police department, sheriff's department, public works department, sewer department, everyone is out. >> officials askingeoe to ke>> we say turn around, do not

drown. water can be very deceiving and e it quickly er e and in many circumstances and examples throughout the day. >> the request to pass on, if you're making your way down here to the embarcadero for the fireworks, the fire department is asking people do not even attempt getting in your vehicle till at least 7:00 when the storm should be moving out. >> certainly not worth it. businesses were also hit by flooding in san francisco, check this out, dave cracker shared this video cleaning up as soon as that rain eased in stores on 14th from harris into folsom also got drenched, at 15th and howard also another trouble spot.

san francisco fire rescued a driver at marina boulevard near marina green, that incident happened on the 500 block of marina boulevard. officials say that driver will be ok, streets have been blocked off in the area and multiple houses have experienced heavy flooding. you can also see an overflow of water bubbling up from storm drains. firefighters said the water main broke because there was too much water and fire officials say people can expect traffic delays and should consider taking alternate routes. pounding rain that lasted for hours left parts of the north bay battered, our live team coverage continues with cornell barnard in mill valley, that water got a little too close to some homes? >> for sure, i day in the last day of 2022 has been wet and very stressful for a lot of folks across the bay. floodwaters rising very>> it i'e

rachel and her family plannedtem inundated parts of los angeles boulevard. >> i was woken at about 7:20 with a knock on the door. i was figuring it was pg&e may be a downed power line, it happened to be my neighbor telling me we needed to move our cars immediately. because it was flooding in the front which is right there. >> rachel showed us how close the water came to her front door. in mill valley steady rain brought trouble for storm drains. >> a lot of water here. >> ted was keeping a close eye on this and other drains overwhelmed by the powerful storm. >> we are on a floodplain and it is a high tack so it's going to happen. whether the drains are clean or not. just bad timing. ays he was aveerying his best tr

the debris. >> it's going to get worse. if it keeps writing like this it's going to get worse. it's going to go up the street and up the driveways and we will be flooded. >> in napa county caltrans crews were working to remove this fallen tree on highway 29 in calistoga firefighters say the driver of a car collided with the tree. luckily no injuries. in sonoma county the intersection of 121 and highway 12 was closed it was underwater a detour in place for drivers but greg larson did not mind a bit. he is happy for the rain. >> we have not had rain like this in a while so this is good to see. we've experienced some drought we are all rushing our water and stuff in california it is happening everywhere, everything is drying up so this is good. >> we love to see the rain the good news is floodwater is starting to subside across the north bay.

barbara walters is being remembered this weekend. she died at home in new york last night surrounded by loved ones, she was 93 years old. walters broke barriers with abc news as the first woman to anchor an evening news program. she would later become the cohost of 2020, and launched the view in 97. walters was known for her interviews with everyone from world leaders to celebrities. a special edition of 2020 airs here on abc tomorrow night at eight and abc news live presents the view honors barbara walters throughout the weekend. i think everyone has a barbara walters story. >> i had the great pleasure of knowing and working with her. she was one of the most amazing news people i ever met and a terrific interviewer and great person. >> and her ability to appeal to so many people to get them to open up. >> she always asked questions that surprise you. >> that was part of the joy of watching her. >> one thing that did not catch us off guard as the storm tonight.

it is rain just about everywhere but it is getting much lighter often the north bay most significant rainfall right now is in the east bay from concord to antioch down to san ramon and hayward up to livermore and all the way down into milpitas and the south bay. and we have a flood watch that will remain in effect this evening for all of the bay area especially concerning up in the north bay and parts of sonoma county where the creeks are already above flood stage in many locations. looking live the golden gate it does not appear to be raining there right now but the pavement is still wet. current temperatures reading 51° in san francisco oakland palo alto and 50 in santa clara 52 and half moon bay. looking along the bay bridge from our south beach camera traffic is flowing more smoothly than when i came in this afternoon 51° at santa rosa and novato 52 in napa 53 at fairfield and livermore, concord 51°. one more live eel from highwood 101 in san jose, the pavement is still wet there as well but does not appear to be pouring at this

moment. these are our forecast headlines, rain will end early this evening clearing for the fireworks. dry tomorrow and new year's day sunshine will come our way. there will be more storms arriving next week the current storm it still ranks to on the impact scale so for this evening we expect more periods of heavy rain but they will be tapering off with widespread local flooding even after the rains and. shallow landslides are still possible a saturated soil out there so notice we expect the rain to move even farther south and east by then and going into the early evening hours, 7:00 or so the significant rainfall should be about over the clouds will linger for a while. not for long we do expect clearing by 9:30 as many are gathering to watch fireworks. clear skies overnight and wins will still be relatively strong along the coast and farther inland around fairfield and discovery bay all the way into tomorrow, there are still a possibility with a saturated

soil of some trees blowing down and over the sierra winter storm warning remains in effect until 4 a.m. tomorrow. travel there will be difficult if not impossible. overnight with the skies clearing and low temperatures will drop into the mid to low 40's, highs tomorrow mid to upper 50's and here is the accuweather seven-day forecast. a nice sunny break tomorrow when i start for the year 2023. then look at next week. the only day we expect to be dries tuesday. there will be light or even maybe moderate storms every single day, wednesday looks like the best chance for a significant storm another level to coming our way next wednesday afternoon. it is going to be a wet week ahead. >> do not put those umbrellas away yet.
