rescues we have seen it all today a new year's eve storm wallops the bay area and sets records in the process. good evening and thank you for joining us. we have team coverage tonight, tara campbell is following things in san francisco and we are following a dramatic rescue in the east bay. it's looking a little better out there. >> so much better, compared to what we had a few hours ago, you can see that essentially significant rainfall has ended here in the bay area. the brunt of the storm has moved to our southeast, rainfall totals over the last 24 hours is almost staggering.

this is a 24 hour total, 8 inches. but for today's date, we recorded 5.64 inches of rain which is it just shy of the all-time record and is a new record for francisco. our forecast information shows that not only has the rain ended the clouds will move out in the overnight hours giving way to clear skies we will start 2023 with sunny skies, and i will have the accuweather 7-day forecast in just a few minutes. >> we saw numerous of flood rescue throughout the day, abc has more about how wild a day it's been in the east bay. >> firefighters had to use a kayak to help this mom and her children get out. ask -- they moved to danville earlier
