can expect across the bay area. reggie: good morning. kumasi: today is the day to get prepared. drew: a lot of people want to get sandbags ready and keep an eye on the trees around the house. the wind will also be an issue with our next powerful storm. a live look at the exploratorium camera, it is cloudy. you will stay cloud -- it will stay cloudy through the day. pockets of drizzle but for the most part it is a quiet day with temperatures in the 50's. tomorrow we are highlighting the level five severe storm, the first we have forecast since the inception of the scale seven years ago. so we are tracking heavy rain, damaging wind and the flood threat is high. a lot of rain over the weekend and we have not had a chance to subside and we will have more heavy rain moving in seeing more flooding on the roads and creeks and even more mud and rock

slides. because of the damaging wind, trees will come down. a flood watch and high wind watch is in effect. reggie: with the risk of more flooding and damage high power -- damage high, crews are preparing for the storm using an industrial sized vacuum to clean out catch basins used to collect and drain water. >> we have 25,000 of these and we are literally vacuuming and sucking up leaves, trash, and debris so that they can do their job. reggie: workers on folsom street were busy trying to get the building cleaned up after floodwaters poured in. they hope to get sandbags in place before tomorrow, although that has become a struggle. public works had put their sandbag site on hold due to high demand. kumasi: in contra costa county

residents are filling up sandbags. there are several sandbag pickup locations across the county including in walnut creek, concord, and richmond. you do need to bring a shovel but the sand and bags are free. a portion of marsh creek road was closed after a mudslide. crews are working to clear the area. people are advised to use alternate routes. residents are allowed to pass through but it is unclear when the road will be opened. reggie: new video of overnight damage in the santa cruz mountains. fountain empire road was closed after a rockside blocked lanes and there was also a mudslide on summit road. kumasi: the sacramento area is preparing for more flooding after disastrous flooding. they have been plucking stranded drivers from their cars. this video shows the end of a dramatic situation. crews made it to a woman stuck

-- devils slide. the distance down to the water is 250 feet. more than 30 first responders were involved in the rescue. can see how steep it is. three helicopters hovered above as crews armed with ropes and special equipment scrambled to get a nine-year-old boy, or-year-old girl and two adults. >> we came out here, unfortunately all too often for things like this. and this was nothing short of a miracle that they survived. reggie: the san mateo county sheriff's office says the adults were injured but expected to be ok. the children were not hurt. kumasi: happening today, the of water resources will take its first snow start -- snow survey at the phillips station. every month they measure the water content at over 260 snow places.

they give an idea of what the water supply what -- might look like in hotter months. so far officials say the sierra is receiving its snowiest start to the season but they also warned that the trend is not guaranteed. a water main break has caused damage in daly city. at least one car got swallowed up. lena howland is live in daly city where repairs are happening. lena: luckily no one when this happened because most of this neighborhood was sleeping. that was around 2:00 when this suv was swallowed by a sinkhole. this was caused by a water main break and can still see where the car is partially submerged in water including the hood and front tires. look at the wild video of the moment the car fell in around 2:00. this happened about an hour

after a water main break in the area near abbott and castle street. public works have been working to shut off the water main and yet this area cleaned up. they shut down roads nearby for about a block because of ongoing repairs and road hazards. i spoke with daly city police who confirmed that no one was in the car and they talk to the driver who says he is ok. unfortunately he is annoyed because he does not have a car and he is watching from the sidelines as they work to pull this out. we noticed a second tow truck has arrived as they figure out how to get the car out of the sinkhole. live in daly city, lena howland. kumasi: developing news involving the mark -- damar hamlin. he is in radical condition after having a cardiac arrest during a game against the cincinnati bengals. jobina is tracking the latest. jobina: we are hearing from a

family spokesperson who says that he is sedated after the frightening on-field collapse during monday night football. we have made the decision not to show the play. hamlin tackled a bengals player, stood up, and fell on his back. the first assumption was a concussion but then looking at the reaction it became clear that almost immediately that this was more serious. he received cpr on the field. the bills released a statement saying that he suffered cardiac arrest and that his heartbeat was restored on the field. there are questions as to what led to the collapse. dr. jen ashton is talking about it on good morning america. dr. ashton: we are seeing and hearing a tremendous amount of speculation on what could cause a sudden cardiac arresan a p hit it a neurologic event, a

reggie: shocking video of a stolen car that crashed, flipped over an embankment and then write into this house -- right into this house in new jersey. the driver lost control after hitting two other people getting away from the police. the police department said somehow no one was hurt. two suspects were taken into custody. kumasi: southwest airlines is slowly returning to normal operations but many customers are dealing with missing bags. southwest has apologized and promised to refund flights. over the weekend they recruited volunteers to sort through and process missing bags. the airline is using ups and fedex to transport theluggage.

damage including a sinkhole that swallowed the car. it happened just before 1:00 this morning on abbott avenue and castle street and that road is closed as crew work to shut off the water main. lena howland is live in daly city. lena: hello. a lot has happened in the past 15 minutes since you last checked in with me. right next to me you can see they finally had the suv pulled out of the sinkhole, and they had to use a crane to physically pull it up before they could attach it to the tow truck. this is about 30 minutes before that. this was the suv partially submerged including the hood and top two fires. let us go to some wild video of the moment that the car fell into the sinkhole. this happened an hour after the water main break in the area and public works was on the scene

getting sandbags to protect against flooding. kumasi: san francisco is expecting to get more sandbags to give to residents to prevent flooding. cars have been lining up to get the sandbags. they handed out 8500 since saturday and had to close its site last night when it ran out of supplies. this is a look at some of the damage. the owner of hildebrand furniture says he had sandbags that they were not stacked up high enough. andrea: they were holding back the sand back -- >> it helped another foot of water up over the top and slid the sandbags back. kumasi: he showed pictures of his badly flooded studio. while he was able to save his paintings he said he is focused on surviving the next major storm. in addition to a small sand -- to a small shipment of sandbags they expect to get a larger one tomorrow. reggie: we are hearing from the new mayor of san jose with what 2023 has in store.
