it sweeps on shore right now. the last 12 hours, you can see this has been quiet the intensifying storm. we have had numerous reports today, especially downed trees all over the bay area. numerous reports of downed trees. as well as flooding reports in that area. the storm is surging. the second wave on shore right now. we have had floodwaters in effect until 10:30. western, over into the bay. the entire north bay under this flood warning until 10:30 tonight. these are the major storm concerns. very i can transfer flooding on roads, streams and creeks. mudslides, landslides, power outages, trees down. a high concern for river flooding. >> we really want to emph that we are now in that window with the highest impact. we are talking heavy rain.

a lot of flood warnings out there coming fast this evening. look at these wind gusts already. these are in the hills just about 30 minutes ago, we had winds gusting up to 85 miles per hour. delivering. the winds are very strong right now. 46 at sfo. exceeding 45 miles per hour. there is the threat. they could gust over 80 miles per hour. i went is in effect. trees are coming down. we have power lines coming down.

this is a pretty long duration wind event. four hours from now, we are still underneath these high winds as this atmosphere river moves through. it is not until the early morning hours tomorrow and close to sunrise these winds will begin to back off as the cold front moves through finally. we have a flood watch in effect. you can kind of throw this away. san fra a flood warning is about as bad as it gets. we are seeing flooding on our streams, creeks, on our roads. we expect that to continue as the evening goes on. heavy rain and then those reds indicating heavy rainfall and at one or 2 inches per hour, creating those issues with flooding on our area rugs, streams, creeks. we are still underneath a lot of this heavy rain. it is not until after 9:00 or

wind here. these conditions made it tough to travel. after neighbors found what appeared to be a crack in the hillside yesterday, authorities including geotechnical engineers moved in to assess the threat of a possible landslide. >> we have a slide up on the hill. it is hard to tell how serious it is. or whether or not it will be exacerbated by the future. the city has right behind me. to secure his christmas lawn ornament, trying to grab and secure them before the wind carried them away. daredevils brave the conditions. the rain returned again, pummeling the region.

parts of downtown sebastopol back in 2019. sonoma county's emergency operations center is open. whether downed trees, accidents and river levels that are reaching flood stage tonight. we are live in sonoma county, abc7news. >> thank you, cornell. e.g. id is working to restore electricity to more than 5000 homes and businesses. a tree fell on the power lines in the area of willow avenue and east railroad avenue. >> dustin dorsey is the very latest. >> this morning, there was around 17,000 outages that quickly got cleared up. it was around 8000 outages. everything is in the green to

yellow frame. those are outages that range anywhere from one to 500 customers. that has spread out over san jose. things are getting a little better. you can see the weather certainly not. the rain coming down for the first time today as well as the wind. here is what we saw when we drove around. power outages, about a dozen lights out. of the older trees in the area, pulling down tree limbs, knocking out power lines. it was certainly a surprise for neighbors this afternoon. >> it felt like there was an earthquake but it did not point seem like there was an earthquake. a huge branch fell down.

at the bay bridge you can see on the right and on the left is live doppler 7 hd, the bay bridge much lower than it would normally be this time of day as the storm advances across the bay area, people are paying attention to the warnings from officials to stay off the road unless you absolutely have to be out there. of course, are where the team is tracking it so closely. >> we have drew, spencer, they are all here with the latest. let's get right to it. >> let's start over here. lisa and i have been working together on this all day long. we want to give you a look at what is happening on the storm right now. here we are. this is our satellite radar. you can see that second wave, that strong cold front we have been talking about all day has now pushed on shore and it is kicking up a storm. a severe storm abc 7 storm impact scale, this is a level five storm.

the first we have ever had. the worst impacts are being felt between now and at 9:00 p.m.. there are high threats of flooding entries down. we have at some of that already. another look at the live doppler 7. you can see the heaviest rain falling from san francisco and up to the north. this will reach all parts of the bay area. a flood warning is in effect until 10:30 tonight. it is also in effect for this area over to the bay and into san francisco and san mateo. wind gusts almost 50 miles per hour. 32 mile per hour gusts in san mateo. asfeatures, these are the curret conditions. 50 or 70° right now in san francisco and palo alto. 61 in san jose, upper 50's at and half moon bay. it drops on all of our camera lenses right now.

that 911 needs to be used as a tool for emergency situations involving life or death only. we are currently being inundated with a number of 911 calls and they don't all necessarily fit into that category. drains and other issues, making sure that people are not caught in these various floods and other areas in a situation that requires rescue. we want to keep the public safe. we are here to do whatever we need to do but we need to make sure that everyone is looking at their various situations and determining whether or not something is life or death versus something that you can call 311 to ask a question

about. if there is a flood outside and you think the storm drain needs to be unclogged or you need someone to get to it, please call 311, we have a team of people who are triaging all of the various challenges that exist all throughout our city in order to address them as quickly as possible. we want to remind people that at this time, if at all possible, we want people to stay indoors. we want them to stay home because we want to start to reduce the number of people who are out in traffic. as the wind gusts pick, anywhere between 50 and 70 miles per hour, we can anticipate that trees will be falling, power outages will occur, floods will happen and we want to do everything we can to minimize the amount of time our emergency personnel is spending on life-threatening types of situations. a number of things going on and it seems like it has been a bit

of a quiet day today with some consistent rains but now we see the rain fall is coming down and coming down hard. it is not letting up anytime soon. we can expect mudslides and a number of other issues. we are asking people to just really use the 311 line four non-emergency, non-life-threatening issues and 911 when there is a life-threatening scenario. here, along with a number of city departments helping to manage this crisis throughout the day, including our public utilities commission director as well as the department of public works director and a number of other people joining us here today, we will have an update now from the director of this emergency operation center who is in charge of all of the coordination necessary to ensure that we deal with the challenges around safety due to the storm.

let me introduce maryellen carol. we were all green. everything was fine until about one hour ago. the storm we have been waiting for is here. we have received about a half-inch of rain throughout the day. that number is going to go up significantly over the next few hours. flooding, downed trees. duration of the storm. we will be here over the night. we will be monitoring and responding as needed. as the mayor indicated, the most important thing people can do is to keep themselves out of harms way. that means to the extent

possible, please don't travel or go outside, we advise that includes staying off the roads. if you have to be at and you encounter a flooded area, please do not drive through it. if there are any downed power lines, you need to avoid those. we want people to prepare the likelihood of power outages with all of this wind, with all of this inundation to our underground and with trees going down, we expect to have power outages. some simple things you can do just to keep yourself safe and more comfortable, obviously keep a flashlight with extra fresh batteries, store water in your freezer if you have it and check on your neighbors, friends and family who may need assistance. i also just want to say that we are monitoring 911 from here at the operations center. 911 is extremely busy right now.

was fairly calm all day until about one hour ago and things really have begun to intensify. >> they are warning everyone, if you can, just out of harm's way. there are a lot of things that you don't necessarily need to call 9114 unless this is a true emergency but stay out of harm's way. we are keeping tabs on all of this, we thank you for being here with us. >> we will be with you all evening making sure you are absolutely up-to-date on everything going on. power outages are a big concern as you can imagine as the wind intensifies, the rain intensifies, the potential for mudslides and downed trees. we expect there will be a lot of power outages. pg&e customers who use generators and gas stoves if their power is out, pg&e expects people to believe the lie on those. >> that is right. michael finney is here with the word of warning. >> we have been speaking with pg&e and customers often use risky methods to warm the house

or power their lights when it is a power outage. when it is pouring outside, the temptation may be to bring your generator inside. pg&e says that is a huge risk for carbon monoxide poisoning, opening the window simply does not provide enough ventilation. >> generators should really be outside. if it is not, it is very dangerous. we have that carbon monoxide risk. i know some people think it is ok, i would just bring it indoors. they usually won't be taking that risk. >> likewise, using your oven or stove to warm the house is also a huge risk for deadly fumes. pg&e -- pg&e advises against it and advises everyone to get a carbon monoxide detector. we are watching things and we will get back if things change.
